Odd Zelda Ocarina of Time Screenshot

I was browsing the MSN website this morning when I saw this screenshot of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time:



At first glance, nothing seems wrong with it, but then I noticed that the map looked a bit unfamiliar. Link seems to be in Kakariko Village, but the map is too small for that. The sword also appears to be different from any I've seen in that game. (And also Link has 21 of each item and rupees, but that's hardly suspicious...) The sword should be on the left and the action should be on the right too.

Does anyone know anything about this?

My bet is that this is probably the in-between stage of development where elements of the initial game were fused with the released version.

Have you heard of the term "beta"?

I'm pretty sure it's a beta screenshot. The cuccoos look weird and the sword should be on the B button, while the "drop" command should be on the A.

Yeah, that's the beta. An even older version had even weirder colors. This was a near release demo, but unfinished.

Yeah, definitely Lon Lon Ranch. It's to the left of the buildings.

It's also obviously beta. First off the buttons are switched, a being the sword and b being the action. The graphics of the map, slingshot, Kokiri sword, and the polygons of the cuccos are different too.
