I've found that playing an instrument can lead people into strange situations, get them to meet unusual people and doing some very weird things.
Playing the cello has led me to playing next to a buffalo made out of barbed-wire. I've been on television, and in the newspaper a few times (making my 'I'm concentrating on the music!' face, of course).
I've gotten to meet rock bands at the Junos because of it, as well as some very strange conductors and musicians. Some of my closest friends were in Suzuki with me. I've been in about a dozen different trios and quartets. I got to play with the Amati quartet a few times. I've even gotten to teach at a Suzuki summer Experience camp.
And as for very strange things... I've played cello in the woods (hard to get it out there), busked at a street fair, played with a guitarist, rewrote videogame music for string quartet and played in opposite corners of a church with my quartet and trio...
Tell me your stories! What are the strangest/most fascinating/unusual things that music has ever led you to?
