Okay, I have several self composed pieces that aren't hard but aren't easy unless you have fast fingers...the pieces are for piano...what is you opinion on self-composed improv pieces?

Hm, self-composed music is showing your ingenuity and talent to do such thing. But, for me, no one can ever surpass what those Baroque, Classical and Romantic era masters have accomplished.
But still, maybe you were inspired by these masters, no? wink

I hate it when people "compose" music on Sibelius or Finale, and make it the most difficult thing in the world, and expect others to play it.
There are limits to what is possible and what is impossible. gonk

I've never heard any self composed pieces other than my own. But doesn't it just depend on the person's composing ability?

i think its great ive always wanted to get into that but i want to do it on piano and i play clarinet i took begginer piano for a week at band cmp so i want to get better---a lot better i asked for a piano for christmas, but i doubt that self-composition is the measure of a good all around musician who knows about musical theory AND playing by ear to make it actuallly sound good
