Harvest Moon isn't just Nintendo, hence why I put it here.
But that's beyond the point.
I've been playing Save the Homeland again recently, and it brings me to the same question I always get when playing...
Why is Harvest Moon fun?

It's addicting like Animal Crossing. I play that junk almost everyday, then I quit for a couple weeks b/c it pisses me off.

It's not fun, really. The only one I liked was Magical Melody because it had specific goals to get the musical notes. The first time obviously is fun but Harvest Moon just has the same concept being rehashed over... and over. Also, the graphics are pretty cutesy. I was always entertained by intereacting with the animals, especially my puppy. XD And man, riding the horse around town CAN'T BE BEAT. And Magical Melody also had that mining feature. And fishing was fun, too. As fun as it is in Animal Crossing. Farming isn't fun unless you have better, long-range tools. Oh! And looking for truffles in the fall with your pig is fun. OH! And ******** with town members you hate is fun XD So yeah, I guess it IS fun. At least Magical Melody is.

I have no idea.
The only one I've played is Another Wonderful Life. I got it for my birthday a few years back. (Relatives who know you like video games but don't know what kind you like. You know the ones.)
I finished it and I don't know why. There's nothing really entertaining about it but it makes you want to finish it anyway because it's kinda fun in a weird way.
My theory?
Mind control.

Because.....I know there's a reason, but I can't quite remember it. I think it's the overall happy feeling that you get from it because everybody in the town is nice, and the music is cute, and it just gives you a friendly place to go and it's pretty relaxing.
Also, Save the Homeland is AWESOME!!!!

I enjoy it's peaceful tone.
Although it does feel tedious having to take care of crops sometimes... but if you're well off with gold, you can always take a season, preferably winter to just d**k around.
I have A Wonderful Life, but never finished it.
I have Magical Melody, but haven't gotten all the notes yet.
I have Tree of Tranquility. To this day, that is the manliest HM game of all. You can ride a ******** Ostrich.
Say. has anyone ever noticed that nearly all of the installments seems to have it's share of bugs in them?

Also, HM64 will always be my favorite of it all- and I actually don't know why it's fun, everyone is right. I'm going to say, though, that it gives everyone a taste of farming, without all the complications, and that gets to a lot of people. Also, it's a very basic game- not difficult to understand or play, and yet it has some complicated elements for those who want to look around for them. I think that ratio might have something to do with the fun gameplay- the fact that you can be a retard and end up doing better than being smart.
