Are the new ones, the 299 ones still compatable with PS1 and PS2 games still or do I need a used/refurbished model. If so what would you recommend?

Unfortunately no they can't play classic Playstation 1 or 2 games. But I would recommend buying a PS3, they are awesome and have great games out for it and there are more coming soon.

Correction. All models can play PSone games but only the older models can play PS2 games.

sad Well that kinda sucks but now I know, used PS3 here I come!
The only ones that can play PS2 are the 20 and 60 gig models that have the four USB slots, and the multimedia panel. Why they only went with 20 and 60, skipping 40 (the one that **I** had. I got boned), is beyond me. *shrug*
You'd think they'd make the PS3 Slims backwards compatible...but no. Stingy bastards. razz
