This is a Music Guild.... so what?

So, I really dunno what to do here.

Yea, we're suppose to talk about music.. since this is a "music guild"

but, believe it or not, talking about music can get pretty boring
esp if you're talking about it to people who really don't know what music is.

or people who have never really played an instrument.
it is sooooooooo hard to talk to them about the difficulties of being a musician if they have noooo idea what the hell you're talking about

( playing guitar does not count, since 70% of Americans play guitar, and it's easy as hell to pick it up. )

When I say instruments I mean Trombone, Violin, Saxophone, Trumpet, Clarinet, Tuba, Flute, Cello, Marimba, Xylophone, Baritone, French horn etc.

Those instruments take skill to play, and it takes more than a week to be able to learn how to play it well ( unlike the guitar )

Not trying to bash on any guitar players here. There are just too many "wana-be" guitar players.
All they care about is money, and fame, and anything else that has nothing to do with music.

Anyway, it's just really frustrating to here people say "Omg! I cannot live with out music" or "I loveeeeeee music"

Because half of the people that say that don't care what it took to create the music they listen on the radio everyday.
They don't pay attention to any of the actual music.

Not the lyrics.

The music
The melody.
The only thing that makes that stupid song you're listening to an actual song

Sure, to some people listening to that may seem stupid.
Well to those people "music" seems stupid.

All they care about is the lyrics.
The little rhyming words that cover the music.

A lot of people don't like Rap music.
Well, I don't like rap lyrics.
They are stupid.
But, I like the music.
So I listen to rap sometimes, but I couldn't sing along with any of the songs.
Because I don't know the lyrics.
But I know the music, I could hum it to you if I wanted.

And that goes for any song I listen to.
My ears automatically listen to the music, and not the words.

I couldn't tell you the meaning of any song.
I mean.. I hear the words.. but I only listen to the music.
I also don't know the titles to many songs because I always accidentally tune out any voices when there is music present so, if im listenig to the radio, I always miss the title of the song.

For some people the music is in the background..but for me the lyrics are in the background.

That's also why I hate most country music.
Not because they all talk about drinking beer or how their dog died.
But because the music of it really is not that appealing to me.

I don't know what it is, but as soon as I hear the first chord of a country song, I am aggravated as hell & I want to turn it off.

But now before you think I'm some completely insane music obsess-or
I do know the words to some songs. ( and the titles too >.< )

Normally if I want to understand what is going on in a song, I have to literally go on Youtube and look up songs with lyrics, because it is sooo hard for me to concentrate on what a person is saying since I am so use to tuning them out.

Anyway, When I first clicked on "New Topic"
my intention was to talk about how I am learning to play cymbals...
And yea.. that didnt go well.

But I think I kind of got my point across.
Some of the things I said were kinda harsh....maybe?...or not..?

I dunno, As I kept typing, I remembered the jocks and preps that go to my school and how they bash on music sooo, that got me venting.

So I really mean all of that anger-ness at them.
Not you o.o

But you can Comment on it.


But! You should tell me what you think music is.

Also, are you like me? D:
I don't know anyone that listens to just the music like I do.
All my friends can listen to a song one time & understand what it means.

But I don't because I was too busy not listening to the lyrics.

Is there anyone else like that? D:

i mean . . .
i see your point.
i can, unlike my friends, listen to a symphony all day.
of course, i hear the words and understand the lyrics easily,
but i can also hear the music just as well as the words.
that's one of the only reasons i listen to leona lewis,
or any other singers like her; it's for their music.
it's just so pretty. C:

I know what you mean when you say wannabe guitar player. I have a friend who thinks he a guitar player but he only knows how to play a crappy intro of Sweet Child O Mine.
I don't consider myself a guitar player because I don't know any of the forms or most of the chords since I taught myself off of youtube videos and chord sheets.
I hear people say that music is there life but I can see they don't mean it. I am a musician myself, I play the Clarinet and Piano and I have try the flute. It is really hard. So I completely understand where your coming from.

I can decently play the majority of the instruments you'd find in a marching band's pit, I can't play the guitar well for the life of me, so I do personally think it does take some talent to become a guitarist.

As Retro Muffin-Pie does, I listen to songs and am able to understand the vocals, but I can also hear the music at the same time. I have a habit of listening to a few songs by artist when I first introduce myself to their music so that I can form an opinion on the individual components of each band. I can separate the drums, the vocals, the bass, the guitar, the keyboard, the melody, and if I know the playing style of a particular guitar well enough, I can differentiate between lead and rhythm guitar. I don't intentionally do this. I've just caught myself halfway through the process of doing it on more than one occasion and chuckling at myself over it.

I have no issue with people who only listen to the lyrics of music. Well written lyrics are impressive.

And I guess I don't know anything much about music. I know a little bit though, from listening to people tell me about how they play a song on the drums or guitar. I mean, am like you in a way where I'll just listen to the music sometimes and block out the lyrics. I don't play an instrument anymore. When I was 10 I played saxophone for a little while until my orthodontist told me stop because I needed braces. >.< I will never forgive him for that. I enjoyed the saxophone.... >.>
But yeah...
I appreciate music and I appreciate the work that went into the songs I love.
