Many political figures have been caught by the media performing various illicit sexual acts that they, the media, make such things more offensive than they really are. Everyone knows that politicians are'nt knights of justice and are'nt void of such urges, so why do we act like we do when a "scandal" occurs?

Because people as a general mass are typically hypocritical.
That and civil servants are held to much more rigorous moral standards than I think is proper in a country thats supposed to separate religion from politics. ..then again, ideals usually fall by the wayside... rolleyes

Oooh ooh! Can I attempt this question?
The reason we get upset about politicians being deviants/pervs or cheats, is because when they are camapigning they claim to be pure and holy to get the support of the far right voters.
They also tend to pass laws against "deviancy" (prostitution, censorship, the violent pornograpy act in Britain, etc).
So when it is proved they are perverts too, we call them out on their hyocrisy!
Hypocrisy reigns supreme, especially amongst the so-called "Family Values" crowd.
Personally, what someone gets up to in the privacy of their own bedroom and as long as it's between consenting adults, has nothing to do with how they're going to govern.
What bugs me is that all those holier than thou people who want to ban consensual sex between adults or rail against certain behaviors are the very ones who scream about too much governmental intrusion (i.e. Big Brother).

theyall have to claim the family values card or they have no shot of getting into office... make it so they have to hide their orientation. so they can make it to office.
