So, I'm sure you've heard something about this.
Recently there were soldiers in a helicopter who killed a number of civilians. I think this is absolutely disgusting, and horrifying.

The video of the attack was leaked, and it can be watched here.
I have to warn you, it's very disturbing.

Given the chance most folks are all evil beings, it is quite sad ura, never put anything past anyone. Though it would be nice to show the good things troops do too, not just the bad. Gives folks like me a bad name >.>

Yeah i knew about this... They also blow up sheep and kill dogs... Another thing i know they do is teach the Iraqi kids to say "I love pork" and other phrases like that...

it looks to me like the soldiers were just acting on orders, and didn't mean to make this ******** up of a mistake. but i see alot of stupidity on both sides.

1.) what the hell was up with that eagerness to fire? were they that ******** bored? it wasn't as if they didn't have time to make a more thorough check on the equipment those Iraqis were carrying. that i incredible incompetence.

2.) the ********!? they brought a van there to rescue people, right after a vicious gunfire, with children!? that is ******** up and stupid! i am glad those kids didn't get killed.... i'm hoping they survived for certain, after all they could easily die of infections... especially considering they didn't get to have the better medical treatment.

anywho, looks like the superior officers realy wanted to cover this up. i don't blame them for that, i wouldn't want to admit that kind of serious blunder either. this is a great example of the horror of war.

Hey zach, this guild seems to have a lot of negative miliary views.
Also, tell me, everyone, why is it that you want ot focus so much on the bad things people do? Did you know that the military goes to aid foreign countries, that we have hospital ships that run 24 hrs on humanitarian issues. Did you realize that the few that do things like that are actually the outcasts amongst the ones who are doing as they are supposed to?
I am military, I am open about that much, I havent seen anyone do things like that, ya know why? Because as publicized as it is, occurences liek that arent really all that common.
You have freedom to say what you want and so do I. If you dont like the military thats fine, but could you please atleast look to see the good before you just post only the bad? It makes me feel quite bleh about talking here.
I am usually a ball of sunshine, happy and ready to help but this has kinda made me sad.

i'm not anti-military, but i am against what the U.S. government uses it's military for. i support the troops, very much, you know that. but i do think that despite the varied opinions on the military that members of this guild have, the one's who are more active about using their voices tend to be the ones who are going to show more negative media about the military. i don't want to see this lead to any disputes in here. so i kindly ask that everyone try to understand both sides. thank you.

So it turns out this actually happened about two years ago, but only recently the video was leaked.

I'm not anti-military per se, but instances like this need to be taken seriously. It highlights an extreme that despite not happening very frequently does happen. There have been instances of abuse (sexual and otherwise) and violence toward civilians throughout this war.
I have to point out the amount of sexual assault enlisted women experience -- it's astonishingly common.

At any rate, though, I'm not saying the military is all bad, but rather that these wrongdoings need to be addressed.
The callousness expressed by these soldiers (I was thinking about the eagerness to fire as well) is evident. Also did you hear the way they laughed when the one man's body was run over?
War is horrible -- there's no denying that. War results in a certain amount of ********, and generally a great deal of tragedy.

I don't know about that.
Culture and certain situations are ultimately really influential upon actions. Not everyone will behave in horrible ways, though.
I think that people have a great capacity for compassion and empathy. It's been demonstrated quite a lot.

You could show us? I know there are good things that the military does, and it'd be a relief from the usual bleakness I'm used to hearing about.

their paid soldiers. can't expect them to take it seriously when there job is to kill. i know that's a passive way to think, but it's true. i'm not saying i like it, just that i don't think that it's etirely fair to judge them on that. i stick to my only point against them being their failure to do a more thorough check before assuming guns and opening fire. but yes, war is rediculously horrifying, there is no doubt about that. the fact that this s**t happened is disgusting, and so is the reason for the war in the first place.

One thing that will show the positive is if you look up the USNS Comfort. It is a ship that goes all around the world helping, not a single weapon is on board. It is only computer techs and medical people. They go to countries such as Haiti, Iran, here in the US, there is also the USNS Mercy is the same way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cec6Q0co3xc

This is just a small glimpse of the good things. It is an older video but their continued mission is to help those in need.

I apologize zach for how I presented my argument and to you as well Figuren, I didnt mean to explode, its just how often I am subjected to things against my job. I am not pro war but I am also very much against people looking only at the bad.

Also, I do believe all humans are quite capable of evil, most will never let it happen if they are given chances. But still many others will.

no need to appologize, i can understand the feeling of constantly being bashed (or being part of a group that is bashed) constantly by people who rarely look at the other side of things. conflicts are everywhere, and there's no reason that anyone should have to just lay down on their backs and take it.

but yes, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, it's ok. but i just wanna make sure that no fights get started. we're a group together here, this guild is like a family. let's all try to get along. it's RoseSoul Tribe, as in a community.

Oh, no worries -- I didn't take it as unfounded.
I get the how it could be bothersome to hear of the negative so much more often.

I'd never heard of those two ships.
I have a great deal of respect for those type of efforts. Thanks for sharing.

Most people definitely are capable given the, "right," circumstances. But I was mostly just saying that it's not so much about the chance to do so. It was mostly about the wording.

I admit I didn't watch it(I'm not in the mood to see people die right now), but I would like to point out a very common mistake people make.

Soldiers are human.

Very often, surprisingly often, people make the mistake of judging people based on a title. I learned this while taking Criminal Justice classes. Here's a test for you.

Get a piece of paper and a pen/pencil or open a wordpad document. In thirty seconds, think of as many things as you can that come to your mind when you see the next two words listed.

Police.

Criminal.

Some of you may have forgotten some key words. Most people write these for "Police" : Officer, authority, leader, protector, pig, justice, injustice, cherry-tops, cops, cop, car, etc. For criminal they think: Injustice, wrong, immoral, failure, high school dropout, thief, murderer, etc.

What they forget for both are these: Father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, niece, husband, and wife.

We are all individuals. Yes, a U.S. soldier did something they should not have done, but I posted this because there are to many extremists out there who think "these guys did it, so they must all be bad." Well, I come from a military family and I can guarantee you none of us have done anything like that. It really hurts to hear people say that the entire military is evil or that we shouldn't have one, that they are all corrupt or blood-thirsty murderers. To many people lose respect for the men and women who risk their lives to help close minded fools like them just because some ignorant soldiers went against what they are supposed to do.

The military exists to help civilians. Our job is to protect the weak and defenseless, provide aid for those in need, save lives, and defend our country. Our job is not to go on a killing spree and I don't like the fact that when one group of soldiers do, all the soldiers, including the good and the entirely innocent(the ones who never even leave America), are judged for the actions of a disgraceful and shameful few.
[/rant]

Edit: I didn't read the replies to the vid until after posting this, so this is not a reply to anyone, not even the person who posted this thread and information. I simply remembered all the times people mocked and taunted me when they found out I'm joining the National Guard and felt the need to vent a bit, so I did. At least I tried to be a little educational and posted some beneficial information during my rant rather than just rant to vent.
