Ps3 Hd cables technical help

so i bought a madcatz HD cable(or HDMI cable) for my ps3.
it supports 480p/720p/1080i/1080p resolutions. but when i started my ps3 and showed the ps3 xmb it came up with 580i or something like that..whats going on? isnt it suppose to be 1080? i own a 42inch sony Bravia that supports full hd. im abit confused..
does it only show 1080 when im in a 1080p(or i) game? O.o"

Well besides the fact that you changed the cord.
You should change the settings for the PS3 on which cord you plugged in. i forgot the name of the option but in it, you can change the cord type and also select the resolutions that it uses.
If you did that, then try looking it up on some sites (like sony or madcatz products)

My guess is...

Settings > Display Settings > then choose cable type

You might also want to explore game settings.
