Where do you stand on it? Do you think it is an actual condition, or just the product of people who would mis-prioritize their time anyway?

I'm gonna be writing a paper.

You guys should have some interesting stories to tell.

I know you love it when people listen to your opinions.

In before someone says 'addicting' instead of 'addictive'... WHAT THE ******** FIREFOX ADDICTING IS NOT EVEN A WORD WHY IS THERE NO RED LINE?

Hmm... I have come to the conclusion that is is another strange American word. In English English there is no such word.

No language is as free from and amalgamated in it's construction and content as the language of English.

Don't be a language snob, Cheesio.

If you're going to be one, you should do it in a more logical language.

I think video game addiction is a real problem; while not as big of a problem as some make it to be, I think it is still a growing problem, one of the best examples being WoW addicts. Seeing people legit call off work to level/raid/get an expansion, blowing off their friends/girlfriends, it's just pathetic. I've had a few friends actually become addicted to WoW, and I haven't talked to them in months.

You can be "addicted" to anything. The problem is people not having self control.

Exactly. I completely agree Fish. Like how people say "People can get addicted to Marijuana". Sure, you can get psychologically addicted, but actually physically addicted, like cocaine and stuff, not true. People just think they are addicted.

When it comes to games, they just don't have enough self control to just put it down.

I myself play WoW but I have self control and will stop playing to do something else for a while. Unlike my friend on there Wontdie. Who was on there constantly.

I don't believe in addiction at all.
It's like of ********' self dicipline.
'Addiction' is an excuse, suddenly, it's not your own fault, it's the 'disease's' ******** that.
Grow up, accept the consequences of your actions, and learn some self control.

What about drugs?

And jacking off?

Addiction is not a disease, it's a personality flaw. There are some things designed to prey on that flaw. Like cigarettes, heroin and the achievements system.

It can be an addiction, but it's not as harmful as, say, alcoholism (obviously). People have biological predispositions towards certain things, though. It's not as easy as telling the addicted person to just "have some self-control." Though, the best way to never become addicted is to not ******** do something that is known to be addictive. Hey guys, if your friend offers you a cigarette, you don't have to smoke it. Overcoming peer pressure is a lot easier than fighting nicotine addiction.

So yeah, can people be addicted to videogames? Yeah. Is it a large concern? Not compared to real drugs.

. . . no.

i mean, i play video games A LOT and i've wasted away an entire day trying to beat my latest games...but not often. i agree with most everyone else here. it's all about self control. get to your next save point and PUT DOWN THE CONTROLLER. simple as that.

Addiction is real, but a lot of it can be psychosomatic, too, or a symptom of something else.

Me? I've bombed out of school twice "because of video games," but those were just outlets for a larger escapism habit i have going.

It could have been anything that gave me an excuse not to do schoolwork.

I think Video Games are hardwired to react with some brains in an addictive way, sometimes in drastic ways akin to booze or drugs. But generally, I feel like a lot of video game "addiction" is a symptom of other slothly behaviors.
