卍 一は全、 I've yet to do this, but play the Marketplace. Start by selling something cheap, then use that gold with gold you earn posting to buy something more expensive. Sell whatever you bought for higher than you bought it. Use the money from it with any other gold you have to buy... etc., etc.. Rinse, lather, repeat. OR You buy things like monthly collectibles, wait for them to gain some value, then sell them on the marketplace. Do this in conjunction with the above and you should eventually be able to afford multiple expensive items at once, and can stop once you obtain what you want. ... Why haven't I done this already...? Oh right, I'm lazy. sweatdrop 全は一。卐

Invest in fish. You get a daily reward from the Overseer that can range between 100 and 500 gold, or nifty items that can be worthless or worth thousands. Then when the fish die, you get a drop that could be worth even more money.
Save event items for a few months (sometimes years sweatdrop ) and they sell for higher amounts after the event is over.
Get rich friends. xd
Trade up. I've never tried this but I've always wanted to since I heard on the radio this guy who tried a nation-wide campaign to trade a paperclip for a house. It started with a paperclip, went to a rubber band, to a pen, to a pad of paper, to a book, to a framed autograph, to concert tickets, to a dirt-bike, to a car, etc. It'd be fun to try on gaia--trade a piece of trash for a hat and up and up.

I got my gold from buying items and selling them. When I first arrived on gaia, which was back in college, I bought a monthly collectible. I actually waited a long time to sell it and when I finally did I made 700,000. There's also the games, and if you go into the gaia aquarium forum search around for the booty grab games. In the right tank you can make 1,000 or more.

i've always been in favour of Hard Work or Service and Fair Trade.... as opposed to anything capitalist. so to me, it makes sense that only after 4 years and alot of rich friends that i managed to get even a considerable amount of wealth and assets (and only by my own poor standards. i'm still no rich-guy by far).
i see Scarlet's already mentioned teh Trade-Up thing....
i would say Gamble, or start a Gaian Business. people do all kinds of Art Shops and Graphics Shops and Background Shops and such on Gaia, and you'd be surprised what kinds of rates you can get away with. smile

okay... let me get this buying and selling thing right... i've never quite understood it.
1: sell one of your items.. 2: with that money, buy something 3: sell that something
... where i get lost is, how much of my money should i spend on the 'something'... and how much should I sell this 'something' for? If i sell it for the price i bought it or less, I do not make money.. If I sell it for more, people don't buy it..

actually, if you charge teh right amount more than you bought it for, someone WILL buy it.... this causes a slight inflation. the inflation will continue to increase, but it can go down sometimes when people stop buying the item, and eventually it get's low enough that people buy it again, either for being a bargain or just because interest returns.
i was never good at keeping track of the money a spend and make though, so i never got into playing the Market. sweatdrop

Ms Madness okay... let me get this buying and selling thing right... i've never quite understood it. 1: sell one of your items.. 2: with that money, buy something 3: sell that something ... where i get lost is, how much of my money should i spend on the 'something'... and how much should I sell this 'something' for? If i sell it for the price i bought it or less, I do not make money.. If I sell it for more, people don't buy it.. And now you see why capitalism sucks. It's all about finding the right price to make a profit. Most are lucky to break even. I know it was my idea in the first place, but it's honestly one of the hardest ways to make gold. You don't have to make huge leaps in pricing though. If you buy something for 100, sell it for 110 (112 if the 2% fee is added). Then buy something for 110 and sell it for 122 (again accounting for the 2% fee). Repeat ad infinitum/ad nauseum. Try starting with an item that people want, like ink. Those things sell like hotcakes.
