...So with the pole quote in mind...

I like drawing. I like it a lot. And I like drawing things that are G, PG, and PG13. Or R. And then sometimes, I like drawing things that are down right illegal to view if you are under 18. Considering that I have a toddler and that I'm a first-century Christian, should I be drawing these sorts of things? Am I tiptoeing the razor edge of hypocrisy?

And would it be wrong for me to do a XXX Fairy Calendar to make a little extra $$?

You know, I'm only 17 and I do pieces with boobs and n****e piercings and such.

I just really think the female body is a work of art in itself. You should not feel bad for drawing R and XXX pictures. If it makes you feel good, then do it.

And I think that quote is rather bullshit.
Porn is personal. You don't go sharing it with your family.
Just like you don't share underwear with your family, but you steal your boyfriend's boxer briefs.

But seriously, I'm not just doing n****e shots. I'm drawing hard core porn. Yes, it's personal, but I'm hoping to share it with enough carnal people to get some extra $$. If I was just doing it for me and my hubby (he loves it by the way) I wouldn't be in such a pickle.

Heh. Pickle.

Oh, I understand it's hard core.

But it's not like you'd be going to family dinners and saying, "HEY! ANYONE WANT ONE OF THESE?"

I don't see anything wrong with making a calendar. I understand your reasons for being concerned but the way I look at it, some of the greatest pieces of art in the world are naked so what's the big deal?

i also agree that it's nothing to worry about. Erotica is an important industry, and your not being a hypocrite as a christian to craft and sell porn and erotica.

it's all good, i say.

and i also do not think that just cause someone makes an X-rated film they'd have to take their children to see it. >.> they should use their best judgement in deciding when they are ready to see such stuff, and explain it to them when that day does come, in my opinion.

If that's what YOU want to do, and you can make some money off of it, by all means, go for it. Make it as hawt as humanly possible. *is a perv*

I'm not sure this even count's as "Erotica." I'm talking about fairies with crayons and iPod plugs jammed in holes they were not designed for, or caught in spiderwebs all BDSM type with horny hairy spiders. There is no romance, and frankly the only redeeming artistic value is getting some of these contorted poses to look physically possible.

But it's still so much fun! xp

As a Christian, all I can say is, do you feel guilty about sharing your art on such a wide scale?

It doesn't really matter what other people tell you is moral or not. It matters whether you feel that you should or shouldn't do something. If there is going to be even a remote shred of shame once everything is said and done, I say it's not worth it. If you won't feel ashamed in sharing your drawings with the masses, then it's not your conviction.

If you don't feel uncomfortable at the prospect of having to face your children about it in the future, that argument is moot. Parents don't go parading every aspect of life in front of their children. It is our duty as parents to protect our children from some things until they're old enough to handle them. Until that day, you would protect your kids from the images on your calender, just as you would from any other form of media you deem unsuitable for their age.

I am of the mind that some morals don't apply to everyone.

I think of it like this... A person who works with youth needs to set an example of what is OK for youth to do , and where it's OK for youth to go, right? You don't want to go into church Sunday to hear the town gossip that the youth pastor spent Friday night at the local karaoke bar, it's somewhat unnerving. Yet we wouldn't hold it against other people.

Now think about the specialized out-reaches, say a Biker's outreach. It would be silly for them to spend their time trying to minister to bikers at the city mall. In fact, many people would get concerned to see a bunch of tough looking guys and gals hanging at the mall trying to get the attention of all the passer-bys (mostly kids).

So, are you in a position, or do you feel called to a position or in the future where this art could be used to hinder your purpose? If so, I don't advise making a calender. If not, I don't see where it would be a problem.

Thank you. Your advice plus something my hubby said have helped me put things in perspective.

My husband mentioned that even if I did draw 12 incredibly hot pornographic fairies in a calendar and managed to sell enough calenders to make the whole thing worth it, in order to stay below the radar of my surprisingly internet-savvy church-friends and family, I'd have to create a mysterious persona that could never got to adult-cons or do print signings or anything like that. I'd also have to modify my style (since it's fairly distinct). Basically, he pointed out that if I was going to do THAT MUCH WORK for something I really couldn't even take credit for in any public sense, why not do regular, scantily clad fairies and try to become known for who and what I am?

Anyway, I'm going to keep drawing what I like, which will sometimes include the pornographic fairies, but the inappropriate sketches will stay in their own special binder for my hubby on the nights I'm away from home. Other than for personal enjoyment, it'll just be an anatomy exercise.

And I think I'll be doing a calendar of just sexy household fairies. ^_^

Thank you, EVERYONE! I love you all. heart

Just because I'm not going to offer my art services publicly, doesn't mean I can't offer them privately. wink Besides, you know money is just a means to an end. In and of itself, it doesn't matter. If my art can help a friend through some tough times, then it's far more valuable than anything it could sell for.
