DEMON The Basics:- Demons/Daemon
- 1. (noun) devil, fiend, demon, daemon, daimon an evil supernatural being
2. (noun) monster, fiend, devil, demon, ogre a cruel wicked and inhuman person
3. (noun) demon someone extremely diligent or skillful
- Sub-Species:: xxxxx• Succubus/Incubus xxxxx• Familiars (who work in tandem with a Witch/Wizard) xxxxx• Nightmares xxxxx• Essense Demons (have a particular trait specific to an 'essense' of something, ex:: Smoke Demons ) xxxxx• Fae (not to be confused with a 'good path' Fairy. these are the scary kind of faeries. o 3o) The Stereotypes: - Social Status:: Uppercrust of society. Usually in political spats with each other, though they have been known to band together against other races that threaten their status. A few demons are noted for fine arts, as they dislike getting their hands directly dirty once reaching a certain level of power. However, not all demons persue social status, some just prefer (and perhaps are destined) for average unassuming lives.
- Social Tendencies Depending on the demon's subspecies, a demon can be very withdrawn, but MOST demons like to exaggerate their natural charms. For example, some try to manipulate their natural abilities to give them a charisma in order to rally other demons and denizens of Halloween to their respective causes. Though their persuit for popularity is probably the most obvious, demons are also just as notorious for being underhanded creatures, such as trickster demons.
Demons, because of their generally high status in society, are also often arrogant and vain. They will often try to gain things of social value: fame, money, wealth, but of course will offer their services at a price...
FEAR:: Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths:: xxxxx• FEAR naturally boosts a demon's unique personal abilities, such as charisma, speed, charm, ect. xxxxx• Unique magical adeptness. (not as high as a witch/reaper/warlock that has STUDIED spells, but it's not too shabby) xxxxx• Demons can also help others with simple paid services, also known as "contracts". While 99% of the time these contracts are harmless within Halloween, in the past, they have said to have dominated the Fear in the Human World with this technique. xxxxx• Some demon's can SHAPESHIFT into another form for example: a large hound, a spectral snake, and the likes. However unlike monsters, this is usually not their true form and requires some focus in Fear (see: natural ability)
Weaknesses:: xxxxx• Can be 'summoned' by those that know their full name. However, stronger demons inbued with the proper Fear are able to refuse anyone, even if their full name, last name and mother's maiden name is known. **The giving of a badge does not guarantee the receiving of a demon's full name. It just means they will vouch for you. xxxxx• Most demons are not particularly physically strong. Some are, but most are tricksters, preferring to use special abilities and magic in actual combat. If you get one in at close range and it cannot use its magic, you can pretty much beat the tar outta them. xxxxx• Magic OUTSIDE of Halloween affects them more than usual. This makes traveling slightly harder for demons, especially young ones that haven't grown into enough power yet to safely travel the other worlds on their own. It's a dirty secret demons try to hide as much as possible. Very hush hush.
The Devil in the Details: Daemon Festivals:: xxxxx• xxxxx• xxxxx•
Physical Appearance:: xxxxx• Elegant Clothing from past time periods. (usually, there are a few exceptions and younger demons can feel free to wear 'modern' clothing if they wish.) xxxxx• Horns of some sort. (head horns, arm spikes/where ever on the body they have spines) xxxxx• Wings, occasionally to frequently. Style varies from species to species. xxxxx• Human-like apperances (again, there are always exceptions, especially with demons that can shapeshift), but the hands ALWAYS have claw-like elongated nails. These nails/claws are some of their only physical defenses, and do not break easily.
Diet:: xxxxx• Honestly have no idea. I would think blood or semi-raw meats would be a good portion of their diet though, since they are cousins of the Vampire/Nosferatus.
H8-ons and Hard-ons::
H8's:: xxxxx• Most species of common Monsters. Especially the physically violent ones. Demons consider them 'lesser' socially. xxxxx• Reapers. More of a love/hate kind of thing. If you are a reaper and happen to NOT be a Witch/Wizard, while Demons will put up with you cordially as 'business partners', but they hold a certain disdain for Reapers tendencies to do their own dirtywork and that of others.
Hards:: xxxxx• Vampires/Nosferatu. These particular denizens of the Undead category are welcomed fondly by Daemons into their social groups, mostly because long long ago, Vampires and Daemons were biologically cousins and are still loosely affiliated as such. xxxxx• Ghosts. Another Undead that Daemons can't get enough of are Ghosts. Again, long long ago, Ghosts were considered 'incorporeal daemons' and were vaguely accepted into the demon ranks. After their reassignment officially as merely 'Undead', Daemon's still kept a fond watch on them. While not as openly accepted in public as Vampires/Nosferatu are, they are still considered a friendly group. xxxxx• Witches/Warlocks. Particular demons/daemons might choose to align themselves with a Witch or Warlock to boost eachothers powers, and work as allies. This is a union that has gone as far back as anyone can remember, and even if they are 'unbound' to one another, Daemons generally have a lot of respect for the arcane arts of Magicians.

A-G
A:: - Ao-Andon:: xxxxxCommon Desc: In the Youkai category, it was meant to represent the spirit that appeared during Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai meetings, after the last story was told. The candles in the room during these meetings were often placed in blue-paper andon lamps in order to create an eerie atmosphere, hence this creature's name. Because of their origins, Ao-andon are supposedly fantastic storytellers. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Suspense: Whever an Ao-Andon goes, there is a looming feel of 'suspense' that follows. Even when they aren't telling a story, you 'expect' something to happen to you. It's a natural ability that puts people on edge constantly. With enough time, you could technically die of a heart attack around an Ao-andon.
- Avarice Demon:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Said to be directly descended from one of the seven deadly sins. These subspecies are the most versatile in shape and form: they may look entirely humanoid or entirely creature-like. These prideful demons are usually obscenely wealthy and like to flaunt off their status. They are tied to only one branch of sin. xxxxxNatural Ability: (Depending on branch of sin, can only be one) xxxxxxxxxx • Pride: Usually exudes confidence. Has a stare that seems to paralyze its target. xxxxxxxxxx •Greed: Likes to hoard. Great money management skills and pickpocketing abilities. xxxxxxxxxx • Envy: Can change the colors of their hair/eye/skin/nails to anything they desire. Patterns are possible, but they usually revert back to their normal colors after 24 hours. xxxxxxxxxx •Lust: Usually female. Can rival and incubus/succubus in attractiveness. xxxxxxxxxx •Gluttony: They have a hidden exterior 'stomach' that vacuums everything close to them if given the chance. xxxxxxxxxx •Wrath: Vicious demons that fight if given the chance. They hide blood-stained feathered wings that give them the ability to fly. xxxxxxxxxx •Sloth: Seemingly harmless, when they slow down, sharp thorns start to grow around them.
F:: - Fallen Angel:: xxxxxCommon Desc: These were never actual angels, but rather demons that spawned from the fear of falling from grace. They come in a number of different "flavours" based on the angelic choirs, and ranging from the six-winged Fallen Seraphim to the fairly abstract Fallen Ophanim. However, they do not follow the hierarchy of the angelic choirs of the human world. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Sorrow Consumption: They are able to feed off of sorrow from others and get a bit of an energy boost from it.
- Familiar:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Technically all demons can start off or be unfortunately bound: making them a familiar. These are demons who have either willingly or by force been bound to a master by contract. Demons who have been enslaved by an unbreakable binding contract become familiars: otherwise they are just performing a temporary service. Bound demons usually wear some sort of token or charm to show their 'loyalty'. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Uncontrolled Summon: All familiars can be (unwillingly) summoned by their master. Their skills and abilities are usually locked by will of their master: it is difficult for them to relearn them again.
- Flame Demon:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Usually the most aggressive of the 'elemental demons' group. They boast superior offensive skills and speed. Like all elemental demons, they have a severe weakness to a certain property: mainly, give them a bucket of water and that fire goes out super fast... xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Emit Heat: Whew is it getting super hot in here? Fire demons can not only emit heat but also light, creating small fireballs in their hands without even the need to evoke their Fear.
- Frost Demon:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Also known as ice demons, these elementals can either be 'summoned' or naturally created when imbued with Fear. Like all other elementals, they will melt if exposed to their weakness (Fire), but have innate ice abilities. Frost demons are usually the smallest of the elemental group. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Cold Chills: The air seems to freeze around them whenever they move. It is said that if you come into direct contact with a frost demon's skin you could be frozen solid.

I:: - INUGAMI:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Inugami are a branch of youkai (foreign demon), of a dog. Normally they are created by a master as a act of vengeance or as guardians. They can be independent and not need a master. While they can take on two-legged forms their natural form is that of a large dog. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Head flight: Inugami have heads that can detach off their shoulders and fly around independent from the body. K:: - Kitsune:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Kitsune are a branch of youkai (foreign demon), who were once considered to be lesser deities. They are pranksters that like to flit around households and cause (light) havoc. They also have a penchant for hoarding. While they can take on a humanoid form their natural form is that of a multi-tailed fox. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Kitsune bi: All Kitsune also control fox fire. N:: - Nekomata/Bakeneko:: xxxxxCommon Desc: There are many stories about the supernatural abilities of the bake-neko: talking, walking on their two rear legs, shapeshifting, flying, killing people, and even resurrecting the dead. Because of the stories about the bake-neko some Japanese people may have cut their cat’s tail off to stop them from becoming a bake-neko. When the tail splits, or a bake-neko reaches a particular age, it's power increases and becomes a Nekomata. While they can take on a human form their natural form is that of a split-tailed feline. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Minor Magic: Nekomata's are capable of minor hex magics, while not at the level of a Djinn or a Witch/Warlock, they can hold their own.
- Nergal:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Nergals are divided into two categories: pure blood and parasitic. Pure-blooded nergals are the rarer of the two, with the ability to shapeshift from their true form (usually a sharp, tentacled, glowing, spiny mass) to a more manageable human form, though usually a part of their 'true form' pokes out, such as a tail or wings. Their ancestors are one of the noble clans of the demons. Parasitic Nergals are unable to shapeshift: they inherited this ability from someone close to them who passed away. The symbiotic from the prior Nergal who passed away latches onto the new host, forming a loving bond union between the two. The parasitic Nergal however, sometimes has a mind of its own.. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Deceit: All Nergals have the ability to hide (most) of their form. This can make them seem like 'easy targets'.
- Nix:: xxxxxCommon Desc: A Scandanavian Water Demon, the Nix lure poor travelers into their watery depths to drown them. No one really knows what they do with the bodies afterwards, though it is assumed they are either eaten or 'collected', like dolls. Females can change into what is commonly known as a 'mermaid', and males can take the form of a snake, a human, or a fish. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Dual-Terrain: A Nix can survive a battle underwater and breathe just as normally as on land, and are incredibly fast swimmers. Prey that you never have to fight one in its natural habitat, or you'll most likely drown.

R:: - Raum:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Raums are fortune-telling birds of lore, crows specifically. It is rumored the most FAMOUS Raum was the enigmatic crow in Edgar Allen Poe's poem "Nevermore". While they can take on a contemporary humanoid shape, their natural state is that of a crow, and their preferred surroundings are battlefields because of the large amount of free food lying about. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • future sight: The greatest gift and curse of a Raum is their future sight. The visions are never lovely, so count yourself lucky if a Raum CAN'T tell your future. S:: - Succubus/Incubus:: xxxxxCommon Desc: A Succubus or Incubus is one of the most famous species of demon. Almost everyone knows what they are, and most people can spot one a mile away. In lore, they are considered 'seductive temptresses/temptors' whose only goal is to have intercourse with their victims. This is a long-running JOKE in Halloweentown, as really, a Succubus or Incubus simply needs to feed. The species main diet is 'emotion' or 'feeling', so they need to be in the middle of it all when they're hungry. Many of the species have a favorite emotion that they eat/crave more than others. For some, it was the lustfull emotions that come with intercourse, which has made the species famous. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Charisma: This species has a natural boost in charisma, and seductive lure. Succubuses/Incubses need people to naturally be around them, because of their need to feed, so a natural boost in charisma/attraction to others helps. T:: - Tengu:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Tengus are Asiatic demons, loosely related to Raums, as both are considered 'crow demons'. They usually keep to clans, and have a traditionalist view of things, it is rare to see a Tengu too far from his flock. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • elemental sphere: Tengus have minimal sway over the winds themselves. For those that DO fly, it helps to keep them aloft as their wings are much denser than their cousins the Raums. A tengu's control over the winds solely depends on training to hone the skill.
- Tsuchigumo:: xxxxxCommon Desc: Tsuchigumo are asian spider demons that normally use their powers to lure in unsuspecting victims to their lairs. To control or to kill them, they enjoy toying with people. Their natural form is usually that of a large spider. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxx • Web: Tsuchigumo can produce a silk like web. This is both used as they tend to like sleeping in their webs, and to capture things. Things captured can break free the webs are not impenetrable. U:: - Unseelie:: xxxxxCommon Desc: One of the more vicious of the fae-kind. These creatures usually like to travel in groups, beating up helpless students travellers. They take pleasure in watching people squirm and have a penchant for items of wealth. Unseelie are naturally tiny creatures but can take on a larger 'human-sized' form: this weakens their abilities though. xxxxxNatural Ability: xxxxxxxxxxPoison Wings: Their wings sometimes emit a poisonous powder if breathed in.
