Devyn bowed her head, burying her face into her red cloak's collar. "They're dead," she said in a barely audible voice. Aysun heard it, though.
"What happened?" he asked softly.
The demon closed her eyes and shook her head. "They were hunted by humans. Those humans tried to hurt me too, but my parents stopped them so I could run away."

Parker stayed quiet for a moment, waiting for a text back, then looked up as his phone buzzed. "Then grab your things. You can stay with us. My dad said it's okay, and I'm sure Aysun's uncles would say yes too." He put a hand on his hip, chin held high.

Time passed at Parker's place. It was cramped with all the people in, but they stayed happy nonetheless. Cecil scolded them about going into run down buildings on their own, in turn getting scolded at by Sawyer to let kids be kids. The cop was grateful, anyway, that the latest mysterious case about the strange happenings in the old house.
After a while Cecil's phone buzzed with a teasing message from Nikki, followed by him saying that they were at the front. Aysun eagerly said his goodbyes then hurried to his uncles' car, excited to tell them about his adventure.

Parker followed after Aysun, waving to the young kid's uncles. "Maybe don't tell them we almost died?" he offered with a small smile, then shrugged and turned back towards the house.

Inside the car, Leon sat and stared at his cell phone. "Aysun's parents asked Leonard for money again," he sighed, shaking his head and putting the phone down to wave at Parker and unlock the doors for their running child. "One of these days, I'm going to have to get rid of those two."

"I wouldn't worry too much about it, dearie. Just as long as they leave us and Aysun-dear alone," Nikolai murmured while scrolling through a social media sight on his phone. Ugh, Kiyaka had another girlfriend. Facebook official, too. She must be quite the lady.
The Sin looked over his shoulder as the door opened, smiling lazily at the little boy. "Did you have fun, darling?" he asked.
"Yeah!" Aysun burst. He quickly put on his seat belt and waved goodbye at Parker, waiting for the car to start moving before rambling on about his day, about going into the haunted house only to find a demon girl with no family.
"-a-and she was super fun and could help us float around like her and stuff! And-and we got to ride on broomsticks like witches and have races! It was super cool!" the little boy said.

Leon's eyebrows furrowed at the mention of the demon girl, pursing his lips a little. "Wait, you said she's just living there without any family?" he asked, peering into the rearview mirror at the boy. "Poor thing. Does she have anywhere else to go, or is she just staying there?"

Aysun shook his head. "She's staying with Parker and his dad," he explained. Nikolai gauged Leon's expression carefully, well aware that the man had a soft heart for children, especially ones in need of parents.

He stared out in front of them, thinking quietly. Did they have the room? The money? The attention to spare? He pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned to Nikolai in his seat. "Sawyer barely has room for himself. We have a couple spare rooms still, plus I'm always talking about expanding the family. Can... Can we talk to her about coming to stay with us?" he asked his husband, his bleeding heart pounding.

Nikolai gave Leon a stern, arms crossed. "You realize what you're asking, yes?" he asked. He briefly glanced at Aysun's curious face then leaned in so he wouldn't be so easily heard. "Dearie, having another child is a lot more work, let alone a demon girl. We'll be prone to furniture breaking tantrums and early starting hormones. This isn't a stray dog we can just bring in impulsively." He paused then leaned back in his seat, glancing out the window. "We can talk about it tonight," he dismissed.

"We're both supernatural beings, Nikolai. If anyone can handle it, we can. More than that, she's all on her own! You remember being a young demon, don't you?" He urged, but nonetheless dropped it and started the car, a heartbroken look on his face. As they continued to drive, he grew gloomier and gloomier. "Once she starts getting hormonal, no orphanage will keep her. No one will understand her. Sawyer will try, but he'd human." He trailed off, not looking at Nikolai in his attempt to guilt him.
