For a long time, people have wanted to play their favorite TCG (Trading Card Game) / CCG (Collectable Card Game) online against friends and foes alike. In particular, Pokémon.

Then, several years ago, a website called Dragon Studios created a program called Apprentice. It was only for Windows (though, they had a Mac version in production) and could play Magic: The Gathering. Later on, someone created a plug-in that would "hack" the program so that it could be used to play Pokémon (yay!).

However, sadly, Apprentice could safely be called a dead program. It hasn't been updated in ages, and the Mac version never came out. Heck, Dragon Studio's wesbite is gone!

But, there's a new hope for online TCG playing! And it is...

LackeyCCG!
http://www.lackeyccg.com/

While still somewhat early in development (currently a beta version), it looks to be very promising. And it's currently available for both Windows AND Mac OS X! And I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it's still a living program (the last update on the program was Jan. 5th 2005), so things are looking pretty good! And if the interest is high enough, they may work on versions for other OSes (like Linux).

And, it gets better! LackeyCCG was designed so that it could work with ANY TCG/CCG! Whereas Apprentice was only meant to play Magic, but could play other TCGs through hacked plug-ins.

Of course, a Pokémon patch is available. Go HERE for download links.
Sadly, the Pokémon plug-in currently only has data and images from EX Ruby & Sapphire up to EX Team Rocket Returns (no Nintendo Promos, either!). So, it would seem for now, you'd be limited to constructing a Modified format deck through this program. Hopefully, all sets and Promos will be available sooner or later, huh!

Like I said, this program seems very promising. After I learn more about it (and construct some decks!) I'll add this as an option for my Gym (this'll make things a bit easier for Mac users at least...).

It's worth checking out.

Dear God, not another card game.

I'm sorry, but after getting hooked onto Yu-Gi-Oh (seeing how it is the easiest of all the card games out on the market right now), I'm trying to keep away from any other vice-causing card collecting games.

MTG
YuGiOh

Lets just say I am happy with what I have now

Online play doesn't have the heart of real play

And real play hurts your wallet and your pants

So I play real every now and then and keep the urges down

I BELIEVE IN THE HEART OF THE CARD GODDAMMIT

Hmn. I've never had the greatest fiscal resources, but I do like TCGs--the ones that involve heavy strategy, at least. I'll look into the program, 'cause it doesn't suck my money-blood like a leech.
