I Pledge Allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the Truths written therein;
that all Men and Women were Created Equal, and have certain Unalienable Rights, among them Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

P.S~ I do NOT pledge allegiance to the Flag!

That always threw me for a loop in HS. Why pledge to a flag? And why do it every day...like some sort of...brainwashing...ritual... gonk Fortunately, my first class was with an ex-hippie who couldn't care less about the pledge, and only made us say it when the principal was making his rounds. razz

i've always refused to pledge allegiance to the Flag, except since i've joined Student Senate... but i'm gonna replace it with this that i just made up, starting this week.

I never really understood why until I sat in on like a billion boy scout retiring of a flag.
I heard each color means something... Ect.
But, the only thing I refuse to say is 'under god' because I do not really believe in him(her?)((It?))

But, now a days, my school doesn't even see if we know the pledge. We don't even say it any more~

That's exactly what it is. As I recall, it only became mandatory during the Cold War (which is also when the under God was added), to separate us from those damn Commies.

[/socialist sarcasm is evident]

I had the experience once (during Ye Olde Bush Era) of my junior high gym teacher telling me it was illegal under state law to not stand for the Pledge. I came back the next day with "Under what section of the RCW?" (Revised Code of Washington, AKA aforementioned state law) and he never bothered me again. : D

And then once I got to highschool, I joked with people that I'd stand if Obama got elected. [/guess who was standing during announcements and not at all sorry]

I don't say it, though.

in fact, there was a Supreme Court Ruling at some point in History that said that forcing the Pledge in School was unconstitutional, and then this Lawyer who specialized in Freedom of Speech cases got put in jail numerous times for refusing to Pledge Allegiance to the Flag during Trials.

Ego vexillo unitorum statum Americae ac republica quam disignat fideletatum spondeo. Uni nation sub deo indivisibili c** libertatae atque ustitia omnibus.

The pledge in Latin =^_^=

I guess in this version you could say you're pledging allegiance to the symbol of the nation. I don't think it has "flag" anywhere in the translation.

that's still the point though. o.o I don't pledge allegiance to the republic itself, I pledge allegiance to the founding principles, and the Constitution which holds them in writing. if the policies were to be unconstitutional (as some are), or if the Constitution is done away with, I won't take it laying down. I will fight for what I believe in, and that's my Mission.

that is why I'm going to run for Public Office, and why i'm going to be the Chief of a Anarcho-Socialist Commune.

In Canada we sang the national anthem in elementary school. We were always scolded for not doing so. It's a similar idea, and they both kinda scare me. It does seem like a form of brainwashing.

I don't really care for nation states and patriotism isn't really something that I understand. I think it's kinda pointless to feel endeared to a fictionalized set of boundaries. Sure, I appreciate many of the ideas that are shared in the two countries (not all of them however), but even so it seems pretty fickle to me.

I guess it's the same for me. I haven't really thought about it, but I do NOT pledge loyalty to this government. It's so screwed up. I do support the ammendments. So yea, I guess mostly the same. I may even get registered to vote. Although in this last election my vote would not have made any difference...

by itself, no... but that's teh same for every vote. overall, it does matter, because each person's vote is counted. the only way to get what we want is to talk about it, and vote. the majority get's their way. we can sway the majority by actively campaigning and educating.

I finally learned why! It was made for some kids to say at a carnival fair thing! At least that is what I have heard...

Well the minorities in the country were the ones who won the votes. I am not a minority so my vote wouldn't have done much in this case. I still have no clue who I would have even voted for in this past election.

I feel like I should have voted for others, now that some of the folks I voted for are in... I don't like the way they twisted their promises...

however, most of their opponents were unfavourable as well... stressed
