The order of the hearts doesn't have to be followed step by step... here are the cans and can'ts of the heart meter.

~You may start someone off with a blue or purple heart if that person calls you out by name as if you already knew each other. You cannot start off a person with a blue or purple heart if you have no knowledge of the person.

~You can go from purple to yellow or blue to yellow! You don't have to be friends or best friends with a person to for a crushing heart. You cannot form a black heart to a crush heart though. (Sorry, no loves at first sight.)

~You can go through the meter at your own pace. However, it is unreasonable to go to a black heart to a orange heart (for example) in a matter of a day. If confused about appropriate heart jumping, think about time and if you were put in that situation or pm me for questions.

~To develop that orange heart into a marriable red heart, it's gonna take time. If after one kiss you think your character is ready for red, think again. You must wait a Harvest Moon week for the time to be appropriate. (Even a week is being easy on everyone and unrealistic, so be grateful.)

~You can have multiple red hearts, but that red heart must go down to green once you choose to marry someone. For example: Billy loves Gretta and Gwen, yet they both have red hearts. He chooses Gwen over Gretta, so now Gretta and Billy must lower her heart to a green heart between each other.
