He sprinted, stumbling, through the long echoing hallways, stark white tiles and walls bathed in eerie green and red lights all around him, his footsteps clattered loudly in his own ears and his breathing came torn and ragged, lungs aching. Strands of pale creamy hair clung to his sweaty face and he dashed them out of his eyes, pushing his glasses up for the umpteenth time as they slipped down his nose, jarring with each pounding step. He'd broken the lock on his cell room by smashing a chair repeatedly against the security panel...they'd notice soon. An icy chill shuddered through him from head to toe as the blaring sounds of alarms began wailing in the distance...
Kain Amaranth took up all his strength and resolve and forced himself to keep running...running for his life...
***
They were going to release the monsters. Any second now...
He expected it to happen and soon enough, he began hearing them; sounds. All sorts of horrible screeches, roars and the scraping of claws. Heavy paws galumphing along the hallways, slitherings, squelches and howls...shouts and footfalls from the groups of guards...
Kain was terrified. To try and escape like this was utter madness, but he was desperate, like everyone else sealed up in this insanity. He had to break away or die trying. There was no way he was going to sit there like an obedient subject while they performed experiments on him.
Rounding a corner, his eyes shot wide in horror and a jolt of pure ice-tricity glanced through him, his heart missing a beat. Shoes skidded on glassy floor as he tried to spin and sprint the opposite direction, emitting loud squeaks as they did so.
A pair of hideous monsters were prowling up and down the corridor, guarding one of the exits with dogged determination. Jagged spears poked crookedly out of thick black lips, bunches of hooks were their claws. Eyes glowing red as bloody suns and bulging muscles rippling under smooth inky skins craggy with spikes and horns were some of their other distinguishing features.
If the escaped came this way, he'd provide entertainment and perhaps a snack.
They hadn't heard Kain's approach over the sounds of screaming alarms and general cacophony but they certainly looked up at the sound of his shoes. One of the huge beasts let out a slavering roar and pawed the ground excitedly, raking gashes with the tips of its claws. It was almost too good to be true - the prey just fell into their laps!
Uh oh...there was no chance he was getting out of this one. Frozen to the spot as that roar struck his ears, all he could do was let out a small squeak...until they started charging him like demons from hell.
All at once, his feet seemed to have wings. Without any prompting, they were carrying him off all on their own, pelting back down the corridor swift as a mountain stream.
Well, while his feet were busy running, the rest of him had time to do something, right?
Kain fished around in his shirt pocket and pulled out a syringe he'd pinched from the scientists during a test session. They hadn't bothered to check if he'd taken anything, sure that, like many other subjects, he'd long since been subdued and was much too afraid of them to actually do anything by now. Anything that might get him into 'trouble'. Luckily for him, they were wrong.
Another roar ripped forth from the throats of the monster (this one happened to have two mouths) joined seconds after by the accompanying bellow from its partner. They were trying to close in on him, one attempting to get ahead, the other behind, so he'd be trapped between them.
Kain ran in zig-zagging patterns, dodging this way and that as he was swiped at or chomped at. They were incredibly fast. For once, he was glad he was a lightweight, able to keep those scant seconds ahead.
Presently, shouts and frantic running could be heard and Kain found he'd run out into a T intersection with groups of scientists and guards dashing about like a disturbed anthill.
"There he is! Escaped subject seven-zero-four!"
"Get him, seize him! Seize the little vagrant!"
"Wait, what's that behind him? We might not have to!"
"Go monsters, get him! Bring that prey to us and you shall have your reward!"
Whip-slap! A long greyish-green tongue shot out and wrapped itself around Kain's thigh, dragging him to a stumbling halt. Oh yes, they would have that reward.
No! No, no, no! Kain felt his blood turn glacial in his veins, heard himself whimpering in horror. No, he'd made it so far - he must get away!
As massive jaws plunged in for his left side and a monstrous clawed paw attempted roughly to grab his shoulder, Kain dived for the group of scientists, trying to break away from the vicelike grip of the tongue around his leg. "Nooo! Noooo!" he screamed. "I don't want to die!" As the slimy constrictor began jerking him backwards, he uncapped the stolen syringe with his teeth and, without really thinking, jabbed it neatly into the tongue and injected the contents, tossing the empty syringe like a dart at the other monster, who was in amongst the crowd of people, barraging them out of the way as it searched single-mindedly for its main target.
It let out a grievous howl, shaking its head madly as the spiky item pierced one of its eyes. Guards and scientists went flying like skittles.
Kain kept struggling, fighting for his life. All at once, he found his leg being released with a watery slurp and the beast who'd been jabbed swaying drunkenly, growling and enraged as the sedative serum took effect. It wasn't enough to put it out, just to make it furiously angry and slow it down.
Now it couldn't see or think clearly, it lashed out at whoever it thought was its prey, chasing and grabbing those who made suspicious attempts to flee and ending their struggles to escape with a few well placed bites or a thump from paw or tail.
The other monster likewise was thrashing about in pain, bellowing madly and adopting a similar attack method, though it wasn't so much grabbing as it was pummelling.
Spotting the mop of cream hair over the heads of three guards (who were shooting it with stunning devices which it dutifully ignored), the stabbed-eye monster lurched towards the slight figure as Kain Amaranth clambered across the floor and pushed desperately against heavy security doors at the end of the corridor, trying to get to the wing labelled 'Aurora Garden'.
"Where do you think you're going? I think your puppy wants to play fetch with you" A sarcastic grunt sounded out of nowhere as brawny arms reached out and grabbed the young man.
Darn it. Kain had been so close. Just as he was sneaking through the reinforced glass doors to the wing to freedom, he was snatched up by a guard who'd been waiting outside them, secretly calling for more backup.
"Ah!" he accidentally cried out in alarm, struggling against the burly man's strong grip. "Nnnh!" His yell quickly turned into a moan as the guard twisted his arms painfully behind his back, pinning them in an awkwardly uncomfortable position, gripping so hard Kain could feel his circulation being cut off and was sure he was bruising.
"Heh heh heh! You like that? Let's see how far you get now" sneered the guard.
"Let me go! Let me - aurgh!"
"Arrrrgh!"
Both men gave injured grunts as the doors slammed open like an elephant had rammed them, sending the humans whizzing across the hall and and skidding over the ground like skipping stones til they came smack against the wall at the opposite end with a nasty crunch.
Blood spattered the other side of the glass security doors (swinging off their hinges at the end of the wing) and Kain realised one of the monsters had gone on a rampage while looking for him, the other being the one that just bust in and knocked them flying like skittles.
Now the hulking black shape was lumbering towards them, uttering a roaring bellow as its paws shook the ground.
The guard holding Kain quickly scrambled to his feet, roughly pulling his captive up with him. "Here, this what ya looking for? I've got it right here...that's it, come and get it doggy..." Then the guard's eyes widened; the creature was coming towards them alright but it wasn't slowing down, nor registering anything he said. In fact it looked positively murderous, as though the guard just waved a red flag in front of a bull.
The monster burned with rage. There was it's target but the other person was trying to steal it. No prey, no reward. And it wanted the reward badly. The scientists always rewarded them well with all sorts of tasty things...prey...more powerful...new abilities. The monster was taking its target back!
With another bloodthirsty roar, it hollered and Kain could only look on in disbelieving terror. "L-let me...go!" he gasped weakly but it was no use.The guard's grip was made vicelike from fear and as the man screamed and tried to run, he dragged Kain with him like a doll.
There was a slamming crunch and a smashing of masonry. Kain screamed in agony as he was smashed through a thick wall along with the guy who had kidnapped him. Flying through the air, he caught whirlwind glimpses of grounds and gardens before landing and rolling, ending up in a clump of thick bushes.
He lay there dazed, his mind screaming at him to get up and keep moving, to crawl away. Yet his head was spinning so much... He heard a crunching and a chewing sound and hoped that the monster wasn’t eating that guard but he couldn’t bring himself to look. Then he heard another sound; the snorting and grizzling of the second monster plodding through the massive hole in the wall. It had followed the first and after what seemed like a brief communication of horrible snorts and growls they began stomping around the gardens, sniffing and pawing at things, obviously searching for him.
More guards were pouring out through the hole in the wall to look for the escaped subject and Kain felt like this was hopeless. He almost wanted to go back to his nice safe cell and start the ‘level’ over again. But this wasn’t a game, he lamented. If he lost this life there were no second chances. At least, he thought not.
Biting hard on his lip to stifle any groans, he managed to flip himself onto his belly and crawl out of the bushes. Forcing his battered body to keep moving, he ducked low and started running again, heart hammering in his chest, knowing the monsters would know where he landed and would be stalking him unseen.
If only he could find a way out. He could see the high wall surrounding this garden plus the forest and mountains outside it.
He dashed over to the wall and began running along it, looking for a way to climb up. Just like he expected, it was completely smooth. It also slanted inwards, plus it was so tall there would have to be three of him to climb it. Damn, they really didn’t want anyone getting out did they? They even put coils of barbed wire around the top. He looked for tall trees growing close by but couldn’t see any. All the taller trees had been grown well back - away from the wall. At that moment, Kain wished he could fly.
Desperate to escape, he racked his brains and his mind tossed up a crazy idea. Maybe if he could jump high enough to latch something onto the barbed wire and swing himself up, he could grapple his way over the wire onto the other side and run off into the forest. But what could he use? After a second of debate, Kain took off his shirt. If the fabric would catch the wire, he could use that. A threadbare plan and a foolish one but it was all he could think of… “Ahhh!” he gasped as he tripped over a branch on the ground beneath one of the tall trees he’d been inspecting. It looked as though it had been snapped off on purpose and was lying near the wall.
Snatching it up, he was about to toss it away. He didn’t have time to trip over it again…wait. A crooked grin split his face as he got another idea. Wielding the branch, he jogged back from the wall to get a running start.
He was nearly far enough when he had an awful prickling feeling of 'things' watching him. Casting his gaze around, he saw with a chill a hulking black shape standing there, silently watching him as it snuck up on him from one side, while the other…shoot, where was the other one?!
Kain spun around just in time so see it lunge out of the bushes at him, howling victoriously. “Oh sh-!” He swore as the creature swiped at him, raking claws slicing his skin as Kain tried to dodge the swipe. Blood blossomed, startlingly red and he yelped loudly, more from shock than fear.
He didn’t have any special powers, had no magic and no unique abilities to help him out, all he had was his speed and intelligence. In a spark of fleeting bravery and improvisation, he retaliated to the swipe and swung the only weapon he had, accidentally jabbing the creature in the other eye with the long branch he was holding, taking it (and himself) by surprise. It all happened in a split second.
“Mrowaoroewwwrrrr!” it screamed and howled terribly, pawing at its face and shaking its head in pure agony. Greenish black liquid gushed from the site as it flailed blindly, lashing out at him with its tail.
Kain saw the other monster galloping towards him to avenge its companion and took off, using the distraction of one of them to his advantage.
He pelted towards the wall, leapt into the air using the branch as a sort of javelin and flung himself as high up as he could while swinging his shirt at the barbed wire. Please work, please get caught, please…yesss! The shirt snagged into the wire and Kain used it to somehow miraculously (he still can’t recall how he did it) reach out his other hand and slap it into the excruciating pain of a barbed wire fence. Pulling himself onto the wire by sheer will, he scrambled across it then finally rolled off and down the other side of the wall. His skin was ripped and torn but he was still alive.
Picking himself up straight away, he ran into the forest. Knowing there were probably monsters patrolling it wasn’t a nice thought but they were on both sides of the wall anyway.
A mighty crashing and wreckage could be heard shortly after and he knew the monsters had summoned more of their kind and had broken through the wall. They’d be coming after him and calling the monsters lurking in the forest to chase him too. Well, stuff it, he was going to outsmart them!
He tied his ruined shirt round his gash and kept running...

Something with many tentacled legs was slithering along the corridors after the Fer de Lance, something else was stomping with cloven hooves, and another was hopping on the one ugly limb it possessed, dragging itself forwards with great flaps of its eight tattered wings.
From the other end of the building, yet more monsters had been released and something oozed and leaked along the ceiling and walls, like a slime that had a mind of its own, followed by two more that appeared to be demon hounds.
Guards were clattering around everywhere, rushing like a swarm of bees to find and apprehend the escapee, shouts echoing through the hallways as weapons and tasers were wielded.
This was the second escape attempt in less than a year! The scientists were not pleased.
As James ran through the forest and mountainous area surrounding the lab complex beyond the fence, he may be able to hear the roars and calls and wailings of an unholy beast hunt coming after him, bashing against the high walls to get out.
That spider trick would come in handy, so long as too many of them hadn't detected his 'signature' or 'scent'.

(I might add more later, I might forget... If Meyaira Firespring jumps in before that, I'll interact with her hopefully. :p)
Roaring loudly Midnight tossed her weight against the steel bars of her cage once again. This most recent impact causing the female were-bear to wince in pain. After dozens of such impacts Midnight was almost certain she'd fractured a rib or two. Gently probing the tender flesh with a claw she quickly confirmed her earlier suspicion. Concerned for the children she carried more than her wounded side, Midnight sank to the floor in defeat. As her rage left her so did her bear form. Her black fur disappeared as her bones reshaped and returned to their original places. Clothed in only her loincloth and top, the cold metal cage now in contact with her bare skin, her body was quickly sapped of any warmth. Curling into a ball in an effort to keep warm, the bludge in her belly was plain for all to see.
**Ignore these, just notes for ideas atm**
((Such as, there's a new scientist or guard in the building and he didn't quite fasten the lock on her cell properly. So when she bashed it or even pushed against it, it could come loose and she could flee.
Or the constant smashing of the door could eventually break the hinges or lock. (depends what kind of cell, cage or container you say they are keeping her in).
Or, perhaps she's crafty enough to use a claw to pick the lock.
Or she could tackle her way through them when they are coming in to check up on her...
Or they could plain forget to shut the door properly.
She could become so enraged that her massive strength could bend the bars of her cage, allowing her to get free))

“Oi, who’s making all that noise after lights out? Stay quiet in there!” One of the guards who were on night duty that evening came marching along the corridor to check on the racket Midnight was making, his hand firmly grasped around his baton-gun.
He was trailing behind a large deer like beast with wicked looking antlers and razor sharp hooves, plus a strange toothy mouth with multiple flaps. The monster was fitted with a metallic looking collar and the guard held a leash attached to this while the beast patrolled the lonesome walkways with him. He was a new guard to this section and didn’t know anything much except for the descriptions on the cages down here.
Squinting into Midnight’s cage, he could just barely make out the shape of a woman crouching in the darkened corner. “I don’t know how you’re making so much noise but shut up, will you. You’re disturbing the other subjects” he snapped at her through the bars as his beast gave a warning grunt.
Glancing at her swollen belly, he sneered. “I see they’re still overfeeding you, huh.” He cast his eyes around the cell and saw she had yet again knocked over the dish of water that was left in there for her, like someone would put out for an animal. “Hang on, I’ll refill that. The others say they want you alive” he muttered, going to a hose which was attached to the wall outside the cage, and refilling the water dish through the bars.
He tossed some more straw inside the cell for her in place of a bed and the monster lingered outside her cage for a few more minutes, snorting menacingly before leading the guard off down the hall, both of them completely failing to remember to check her cell door for damage.

Meyaira Firespring There were many doors and side corridors leading off the main one Midnight was roaming, and this particular section of the scientist's 'estate' was housed underground, one level below the floor of the buildings. It and the levels beneath it were often referred to as 'the labyrinth' or 'the dungeons' and it may take her a while to find her way out. However, anything leading up - be it a rickety old lift, dodgy teleporter or a flight of stairs, would be a head in the right direction. A light blinked around the corner of one of the corridors...another patrol coming around...if Midnight didn't want to be spotted or sniffed out, she had better move quickly.
Fearing the prospect of recapture and in no condition to engage the approaching guard in a fight, Midnight ducked into an open stairwell. Her bare feet lightly slapping the cold concrete as she followed the stairs upwards, her heart longing for the tell-tale sign of sunlight. Logically stairs weren't the best decision for a expectant were-bear, but when the other choices were a rickety old lift and dodgy teleporter, she'd take psychical exercise any day.
(I'd add more to my post but I don't know how far you have the dungeon underground or the layout of your prison.
