Name: Panya
Gender: Female
Nature: Timid
Panya is skittish yet, curious about her surroundings. She is not afraid of the world outside her thicket though will often dart off if she feels threatened. She's shy but, would warm up to a mothering or friendly Herla.
Response: The larger hind that smelled like her used to come all the time. The fawn slept most of the time, oblivious. It was only her, the lady who nosed her and breathed in her face, the hind who was mommy.

"Panya, Panya, Panya." The hind whispered to her. This was Panya's name, as she came to know. Then mommy started smelling different, off. She didn't come as often. She came with food, with heaviness in her eyes and a sloth-like step. She was sick, and murmured apologies to Panya. She came less and less, being gone more and more. The thicket became cold, and Panya shivered inbetween the leaves and grass that were her home. She was so small and weak. She thought she might be alone forever, when mommy came. "I'm not well, Panya. I... I love you."

She wasn't there the next day. Panya felt light with her hunger, and slowly crawled out from the thicket. She was scared, but where was mommy? She was hungry, and needed her. Awkward steps carried her to where mommy lay on the ground. Panya sat beside her and nosed mommy's cheek. A tiny lift of her head. "Panya. Take this." The hind pushes a small golden thing at the small fawn. "Go. Find new parents. I love. You." She says, and soon her breathing slows to a stop. The mommy is gone now.
Panya takes the gold thing, and puts it on her neck. "Love too." She understands go, and heads back toward her thicket. The big hind who smells like her and called her Panya and said words like "love" a lot is not moving. She is gone.

She sits in the thicket and plays with the gold thing. It accidentally opens, and inside is a small piece of purple lavender. It smells like the mommy. This is a mommy thing. It's special. Panya closes it back up, and sleeps with it close to her. Mommy is here, as long as she has the mommy thing.

Name: Sentry
Gender: Male
Nature: Quiet, Watchful, Protecting.
Response: Life had been normal. He had a loving mother, a protective father, a safe home, plenty of food. What else could a fawn ask for? Everything was perfect....that is until the little fawn's life took a turn for the worse.

Not too far in the future, several days later, a fire raged about the lands, devastating everything in its wake. Critters alike were in panic as far as the eye could see. A gentle lick and nudge from mother pushed the fawn's body in motion as he stumbled along with her. Father slipped something over his neck and mumbled a few words he failed to understand. Sentry was confused and growing more panicked by the minute. His heart began to beat so fast, he swore it was about to beat right out of his chest. As a wall of flames licked up the tree's to their rear, Sentry's eyes flung wide open as he sucked in every last ounce of air he had.

And Suddenly he began sprinting. Not well, but as fast as his silly little legs would take him, his tail whipping the air. He darted about widely, every step he took seeming to only land him deeper into the fire. Yet somehow, the fawn managed to stumble his way into a clearing where the flames had not touched the earth, and seemed to veer away from that desolate spot. Sentry gazed curiously about himself as he watched the flames flicker and dance about him in such precise movement, it was almost a thing of beauty. A slight smile spread across his muzzle. He uttered a childish giggle and turned around to see his parents....but they weren't there. Instead, all he saw was a wall of orange and red. His smile faded and once again his heart was in his throat. Panicked, Sentry darted forward to find them, only to meet a huge gust of wind and fire that seemed to come crashing down at him faster than the speed of light.

Turning tail, Sentry scrambled along the forest floor, until he somehow managed to trip himself into a small puddle of water. With his fur drenched, his parents gone, and a wall of fire on what seemed like all sides, Sentry did the only thing he could think of doing. Clambering over to a half submerged log, he crawled inside and prepared to wait out the turmoil. As he lay about in the log, he remembered the locket about his neck, and scooted it about between his hooves. Suddenly there was a strange click sound, as the locket sprang open. Small black lines were carefully painted upon a round white surface. A strange yet soothing tick tick tick ushered softly from within. Sentry didn't know how, but that small single sound comforted him, helping to ease his tired mind and body. However, as the fire soon died and days quickly passed, there was no sign of his parents.

When he could take it no longer, he wormed his way out from the log, cold, shivering, hungry, and weak, searching for any signs of his parents. As he trotted, he stumbled upon small bits of morsels to tide him over. And while these felt good to his aching stomach, they did not cure his aching heart. "Mamma?" he'd cry out occasionally, but no reply ever came. As time went on, he slowly began to give up hope of ever finding his parents. Little by little, as days went by, he found himself preferring the life of solitude, never really speaking. Instead he would watch, and he would listen, always hoping to catch a familiar voice somewhere in the distance, or to see a familiar form springing over the matted grass. And as he would travel, searching, he would stumble upon tiny creatures, whether in peril or not, he would stop to lend a helping hoof in anyway, but never speaking, never staying too long, then continueing on his way, down a path that he knew had no real destination. The only thing keeping him going, was that soft tick tick ticking he could hear, nestled deep within the locket.

Name: Adrian
Gender: Male
Nature: Curious
Response: The fawn spotted some commotion behind a nearby bush and slowly walked to check it out; figuring that his mom and dad wouldn’t mind him going off for a couple minutes. Slowly standing up, he made his way over and nudged some branches out of the way to get a better look. To his amusement it was a little rabbet playing with its sibling. Grinning to himself, he sat down and watched them eventually getting to play with them as well. The minutes turned to hours and eventually it became nightfall before he decided to go back home to his mother and father. Only to find… they were gone.

“Mom!? Dad!?” Adrian shouted as he tried to follow their scent, frantic to find them. His search lasted until morning with exhaustion finally made him succumb and drift off to sleep.

When he awoke finally, he couldn’t help but wonder why his parents left him and where did they go? Was he really that much of a burden that they decide to leave him all by himself? Did they simply figure he was following behind when they moved on? Sighing, he rested his head on the sweet, soft grass and closed his eyes.

Finally, it was hunger that made him get back up. “…you’re on your own now.” The small fawn whispered to himself, trying to figure out what he would eat and how he would get it. Standing back up, he tried to find the trees he remembered his parents leading him too, knowing they were good for leaves and kept him feeling full until his next meal. Along the way, he found company in the birds that flew over head and figured he wasn’t really alone; finding comfort in the beautiful bird songs.

From the distance, Adrian saw something sparkle and he went to investigate. Finding a little gold locket along with the tree he was looking for. He feasted hungrily on the leaves, not wasting anytime in filling his empty stomach. When the young fawn was finally full, he looked at the gold locket and figured it was his good luck charm. “You’re coming with me..” He smiled and nuzzled the branch until it found its way around his neck.

Name: Adebowale VICTOR
Gender: Male
Nature: Careless, Entitled, Hedonistic, Prideful
Response:

Once, on the fringes of Queen Maya's territory, there lived a proud race of warrior herla that made their own kingdom. They greatly admired the felines of the Guardian days, and as such, their chosen king was a herla that most resembled the lion. How fitting! Unfortunately, this king was cruel and unjust, a tyrant to his herd. Cue a revolt against the king as the common herla rose up against him and his guard. In the resulting chaos and confusion, a hind, one of his harem, fled. Not because she knew she would also be caught in the crossfire, no—she would have most assuredly been spared, for this hind was kind and fair unlike her mate, and was known for trying to have her say in the kingdom’s matters, though the king hardly listened. No, she fled because she knew the king and his guard would win, and she did not want her fawns becoming just as corrupted by their father.

The hind travelled far, hardly stopping, and for good reason. She was right. Back home, the king had won, and had sent some of his guard after her. Fortunately, the king’s advisor had also strangely requested to come along. Fortunate because the advisor was nothing like his lord. He was a sheepish and compassionate hart, some even called him cowardly, for why was he the advisor when the king never took his advice? He was considered a joke in the kingdom, and had a hard time with the guard he travelled with, who seemingly only allowed his presence to blow off some steam and take their annoyance out on him as they searched. Perhaps the advisor would have been better off as a jester…

As the hind tired and slowed, the guard gained on her, when the advisor requested to be allowed to scout ahead. Why not? It’s not like he’d find her anyway. In fact, better that he got lost himself, not like the king would miss him. So the advisor hurried, hoping to find the runaway hind before they did.

The advisor eventually did come upon the hind, and was dismayed to find her with a newborn fawn. She was terrified to have been found, and although panicked, refused to leave the surviving fawn’s side. The advisor soothed her, saying he was here to warn her. He told her of the guard seeking her, and how they were not far behind. Still, she refused to run any more, wanting to ensure her child’s safety. If she didn’t want to return to the kingdom, then perhaps he could at least bring back the child, the advisor suggested. He looked so much like the king that he would surely be prince, and an heir is what the king has wanted, that should keep him pacified and off her trail! But no, the hind explained, she did not want her son to grow up just as ruthless under his father, and of course the king would want her back. After a long pause, the advisor admitted (bitterly?), yes, she always was the favorite of his harem. It was with a heavy heart that the hind decided to return to the kingdom, while leaving behind her son and praying he would be found by gentler herla. The advisor watched, heartbroken, as she nuzzled her son one last time. Crying, she whispered his name, Adebowale, and the advisor knew why she chose it, what it meant. My crown has come home.

Yes, if only. If only this fawn would grow into a noble buck, to return to his kingdom and defeat his corrupt father, taking his place as the rightful heir. If only, the advisor thought bitterly once again, as the hind tore away sobbing. He approached the fawn cautiously and, after watching him sleeping peacefully for a moment, the advisor removed the locket from around his neck and placed it on a branch of his thicket. Inside the locket was a lock of the hind’s hair, for the advisor loved her, but just as he wanted to have a part of his unrequited love with him always, neither did he want this child to forget the hopes his mother had for him. The fawn’s eyes opened and although he looked up at the hart sleepily, the advisor felt piercing accusation in that gaze and quickly retreated.

Feeling as though it was his fault alone that mother and child were separated, the advisor turned and joined the hind to escort her back to her misery. They both moved slowly, heavy with grief, and the fate that befell them is unknown thereafter.

The prince’s story, however, was only beginning, and although he knew only the haziest details of his sordid past (hazy indeed, the fawn would get the snippets his mother whispers so muddled it would later steer him far from the noble and modest child she wanted…), what was more pressing was the gnawing hunger he felt when he woke up.

Crashing noisily out of his thicket on unsteady legs, Adebowale shook himself all over, then spotted something shiny hanging from his thicket. A gift from his father! Tufted tail curling in delight, Bo grabbed the locket in his mouth and held it like a prize, looking around for his parents.

Silence. ...Well, okay then! Guessing he had to find food on his own, as his parents were undoubtedly off doing adult stuff, Bo set off with a bounce in his step on a search for yummies. Instead, what he found was a skittish looking delta moving through the grass. Bo paused for a moment, eyes entranced by the swaying movement of the hart's scarf, and suddenly felt instinct overtake him. Stalking silently through the grass, Bo neared closer to the hart, closer, closer...

AND POUNCE! Bo, dropping the locket, latched onto the adult's scarf and growled as fiercely as he could. The terrified delta immediately shrieked and jerked back, luckily freeing him... because Bo was laughing so hard he had to let go.

Luca was mortified as he looked down at this fawn that had so frightened him, nearly in tears, and quickly swung his head around for any sign of herla that had seen this embarrassment or, hopefully, this fawn's parents... But no, they were alone, and as Luca looked back to the fawn he saw the wild child moving for his scarf again.

"U-um, please don't..." Luca nervously backed up, wondering if the fawn could even understand. He looked much too young to be separated from his mother, and again Luca looked around, with no luck. He did, however, spot the locket and assumed perhaps it was this fawn's? Grabbing it in his mouth, the kid immediately mewled in indignation; well, that answered Luca's question.

"I-it's yours, of course..." Luca muttered, slipping it onto the fawn, and then quickly retreating again. There! He did his good deed! Now he could leave it alone right? "You should, um, go back to your parents now," but the lost fawn only looked up at him expectantly. Fearing the worst, Luca felt his heart drop as he moved further back. The fawn followed, keen eyes never leaving Luca’s own. Well, now.

As Luca eventually left the field, high-stepping fawn latched to his scarf with jaws like a vice, the frazzled delta wondered how he would ever explain "Victor" to his family.

Name: Aphrodite
Gender: Female
Nature: Wicked
Response:
She could remember a warm figure one afternoon, a soft voice with a chuckle and a sigh. The warm lady sang a song, and talked to her, and fed her small red things. And when the food was all gone, she was still hungry so she complained. She wanted more, of course, who wouldn't? And so the lady got up and left. Then after some time that felt like forever little fawn became impatient and began to whine. She made as loud of noises as she could until they turned into cries which turned into sobs then finally stopped with shuddering gasps.

Angry at the lady and becoming impatient little Aphrodite, she decided to call herself because that was what the lady had been singing about, decided to wiggle her way out of the prison of bushes and wobbled on her small legs towards the unknown. It took a few minutes to get the hang of her legs, awkward and long on such a small body. But finally they were under control and little Aphrodite was satisfied that she had conquered such a daunting task.

At last she pushed through the final branches, feeling the warm sunlight greeting her and there was no one around. And no sign of that lady. Well. How dare she, the fawn was still hungry and there was no one around and- Thoughts rambled through the fawn's head as she walked through the short grass, head held proud as she surveyed the area. There had to be someone around, like that lady or herself. And if that lady wasn’t going to come back, well then she was going to find someone else to love her and get her food.

After what seemed like a second forever of wandering the little fawn was exhausted and settled herself down in the shade of a berry bush. She had followed a bunch of little creatures to it, after trying to talk to them as best as she could manage. Growing tired of them she finally scared them off when she saw them eating the berries. They didn’t taste as good as the red grapes but they would do.

Finally full to her content Aphrodite’s little eyelids grew heavy and with a sigh she curled up tightly, covering her face with her tail, and fell asleep. When she awoke it was oddly dark and loud with the sounds of crickets and other animals running about the forest at night. But she didn’t know any better, it her it sounded like music, or the voice of another herla to take care of her. Happily she got herself up and forced her legs into compliance, pronking off into the glittering moonlight to find this loud and noisy voice that was talking to her from every direction.

Her exploration ended abruptly as she took a heavy tumble, her hoof getting caught on a rock and betraying her. She recovered herself as gracefully as she could then glared pure hatred down at her leg and at that rock. But it was no rock that glared back. A shiny, golden surface glinted in the moonlight and caused her to rethink her anger. After a moment of debate with herself she decided to forgive the object and inspected it closer.

As she nosed the round surface it clicked and popped, startling poor Aphrodite and making her jump in surprise. She huffed up, angry again and ready to leave the thing behind, again when she saw that it was different on the inside. Curiosity got the better of her and she peered into the locket. One side was a broken shiny surface, reflecting light into her eyes and giving her a slight, cracked glimpse at a beautiful creature just like her mother. The other was a.. Well, she didn’t know what to call it. It looked like another image of herself but it wasn’t the same shiny surface. When she put her nose to it the paper smelled sweet and under inspection the figure smiled up at her. She didn’t know who it was or why it was here, but it had been left for her, of course. Because she was the only one around, and she was the only one that mattered.

Using her teeth Aphrodite managed after a few attempts to get the locket chain around her neck so it only slightly dragged on the ground. As she returned to her exploration she kept up a mental conversation with the voices of the forest at night. And somewhere in there she might have said thank you for the gift, but maybe not, the voices were so fast paced and interchanging that the conversation went quickly. But it kept her company until she became too tired and once again found shelter in a bush to sleep until the morning.

Aphrodite sighed heavily, all curled up around the locket, she thought about her mother. Who really needed that lady when she now had many friends to talk to all at once? All of which who only cared about her.

Winners!
I knew decisions was hard, but omg. You guys.
Ultimately I decided the winner of the locket thicket will be Fea Line because the personality/name she gave it seemed to fit perfectly like puzzle pieces. CONGRATS FEA LINE!

But Soldier had an awesome backstory. So awesome that I want to see this herla come to life. So, here's a thicket for you Soldier. I understand if you need to adjust the backstory or the name, or anything to fit this new herla.
