Purri Town

Forest near Purri Town

River

Here are the different areas which the Human tribe inhabit. This is their territory. Of course, that doesn't mean allies or enemies can't visit.

This is where you can roleplay in the town of Purri, where many of the most useful shops and facilities are located, as well as the large slice of forest near Purri Town and the main river running through it.

To indicate which area your characters are in during roleplay, write the name of the area clearly at the top of your post.

i.e.
Purri Town

Purri Town

It had been almost a year since that day he first came to Purri. Since then, Kain had grown more informed of the different tribes and the rules of this odd world.

He found it strange to say the least, with having to be so selective about where and with whom one could live but things were the way they were and he was one person. He wasn't game to argue with the residents if that was the way they wanted things.

Thus, shortly after his recovery in the star fields (which he later found out was very rare to be allowed into the Experiment's territory), he had been given a one time escort from the Experiments and travelled to this town to apparently be accepted into this particular tribe where he 'belonged'.

Life here wasn't bad. He had been surprised at how advanced the town was. They had shops, a medical centre, plenty of houses, a sparkling river brimful with fish and a beautiful forest...

Sometimes he thought about when he had lived on the Pendragyn, though he knew there was no way of going back now. Or more likely, this place had somehow grown on him. The way out of Purri would mean going back to face the science camp and he never wanted to return there, yet as the days had gone by he realised that he grew to like this place and the people more and more.

Everyone was so friendly and because it was a smaller community, people knew each other. The shop owners would know your name and strike up a conversation. The town was green and bustling, the farms were plentiful and there was always something interesting going on.

Which probably explained why he somehow ended up working as a doctor in their medical centre and living in the staff quarters here. He had fallen into a way of life he would never have seen himself living before coming to Purri.

***

"Doctor Amaranth...Doctor? Your next patient is here to see you" A woman with flossy pink hair wearing a nurse's uniform tapped against the doorframe of a small room in a medical centre, speaking to the occupant within.

"Hm? ...oh, yes! I'll tell them to come in. Thank you, Quoia" Startled out of his thoughts, Kain Amaranth looked up at the receptionist who had tapped against the doorframe when he hadn't responded to her, giving her an apologetic smile as he looked up from his notes.

Thanking her, he stood up from his desk, studying his clipboard to jog his memory of who the patient was. Oh, yes...the young scorpion lady was visiting from the insect tribe again. He smiled as he went out to call her forward from the waiting room. She was an interesting one.

..."Nikola Pierce?" Before he started working here, the only patients treated were humans...

Nikola sprang to her feet as soon as she was called, waving her claw in the air energetically "I'm here, I'm here! Coming Doctor!" she cried, scurrying towards the small room with a wide grin splitting her face. She stepped in as he held the door open for her.

"Good morning to you. How's it going? Busy today, as usual?" she questioned, wandering across to her usual chair and flopping into it. She looked healthy and fit, her wild blue spikes slightly damp from that morning's kayaking around the underground lake. This was just a routine check-up.

***

Shutting the door quietly once she was inside, Kain pushed his glasses back up on his nose, a little smile of amusement playing around the corners of his mouth as he took his seat behind the desk opposite her. He was glad to see she was looking well, always happy when his patients were in good health. "Yes, good morning, Miss Pierce. It's going very fine, thank you. Ah...not too busy today, actually. There are some farmer's markets on in town." he explained, giving a soft sigh. Why they had to miss their appointments for that, he didn't know.

Bringing up her information on the computer before him, he turned his thought back to business. "So, you are here for some more of the Serema oil for your joints and claw. How is that working for you? There haven't been any side effects? Some patients complain of an itching and irritation." Though they were usually spider-kin, he noted.

***

Nikola nodded at his observation. "Yep! Spot on," she laughed, playing with the cup of pens on his desk and accidentally knocking it over. As pens rattled everywhere, she added, "I go through it so fast, I've run out again. Think I'll need the larger size. It stops my arm and tail seizing up and keeps 'em from getting too dried out. I like them nice and supple." It made it easier to move, and the ointment helped keep them looking shiny. There were some drawbacks to being half-scorpion. "Yeah, the Serema ointment's way better than the Sleeknin. I hate that Sleeknin stuff!" Which she'd had an allergic reation to. Nikola poked her tongue out, making a face of distaste.

Main Street to Doctor's

Nabelin shivered as she entered town. She looked around and found the medical center. After weeks of traveling all over Purri, she had an unhealthy color to her normally ivory skin. She opened the door and coughed, her cheeks flushed. She sank down into a chair after cheeking in with the receptionist, her hair in a fishtail braid, and revealing her pointed elf ears. She wore her knife in a sheath on her leg, a quiver strapped to her back and waist, and her bow unstrung in the quiver. "Please hurry..." She spoke softly in her native language, Elvish, so not everyone could understand her.

Purri Town – Medical Centre

“Doctor Amaranth, your next patient is here to see you”

Kain looked up from reading said patient’s file, brushing cream strands out of his eyes with a smile. “Thanks Quoia, please send her in”, he requested the fairy floss haired nurse. He remembered reading in the notes that his next patient was an elven kind. She had a pretty name.

The receptionist, Quoia, nodded and chirped a reply before walking back out to the waiting room, “Miss Nabelin? The doctor is ready to see you now. Please come through” she called softly, motioning with a wave of her arm towards the open door leading into Kain’s office.

Nabelin got up, and went into the door, her hair still in its fishtail braid, though some of her hair escaped and curled gracefully next to her ears. She coughed again, and pulled her cloak around her. She shivered as she sat down in the chair, and looked at Kain with almost glazed eyes. She tried to smile, but ended up coughing again. "I am sorry. I seemed to have caught a cough on my travels." Nabel spoke slow, she was still learning English, but she had an Elvish accent to it. She pulled her travel-worn cloak closer around her.

Kain smiled towards the woman as she stepped into his office, getting up from his chair to lightly close the door behind her. He then sat back down and scooted his chair closer to her to begin the examination.

“I can see that, yes. About how long have you had these symptoms for?” he started to ask the usual questions, placing the stethoscope that had been slung around his neck in his ears and lifting the silver metal chestpiece (the flat part of the stethoscope), in the air.

“Would you mind if I listened to your breathing? I just want to hear how your lungs are doing. I’ll need to ask you to move aside your clothing so I can place it against your skin” he explained. “It might be a little bit cold”.

Nabelin shook her head no, that it would not be a problem for him to check her lungs. She took off her quiver that had her arrows and bow in it, and put it next to the chair. She then removed her travel stained cloak. She unbuttoned her shirt and let it drop around her. She had a cami underneath her shirt. (Elves do have modesty codes too!) She let Dr. Kain put the silver disk over her lungs, and she breathed in and out. Her lungs labored hard to get enough air into them, something that was unusual for an elf. "To answer your question, doctor, I h ad this for around 6 months. Every month it got worse and worse, and not even my elvish heritage could keep it at bay for long."

Eralin huffed as he ran up into the the main entrance to the town. "I made it! Purri town." He wiped his hands on his pants and continued on in his search for an inn to spend the rest of the day off his feet.

((I’m not that knowledgeable about the medical profession and didn’t want to stretch this out too long in case I get too many things wrong, so I condensed it a little. Hope you don’t mind)).

Kain’s chocolate gaze was focused somewhere off in the distance as he concentrated on listening to the sounds of her heartbeat and breathing, removing the chest piece and sitting back once he’d gathered what information he could. “Okay, well, it seems that you have a slight fluid build-up in your lungs, which is causing the breathing difficulty” he replied gently, smiling at his patient. He didn’t want to alarm her.

“There are a number of causes for this. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?” he did so while he examined her ears and her eyes, took her temperature and measured her blood pressure. Just questions such as whether she had travelled to anywhere of high altitude recently or inhaled any toxic fumes. Such things as the lower oxygen and air pressure, or the irritant of the gases could cause the lungs to leak fluid, making breathing difficult. He suspected an infection was the cause, however, considering how long she had it for, combined with the cough, temperature and other symptoms. The medic soon had a diagnosis.

Kain unstrapped the blood pressure cuff from her slender arm with a sound of ripping Velcro, “Alright, I believe I know what this is. It seems that you have contracted a lung infection known as ‘Drowning Cough’. If you wouldn’t mind, I’ll just write out the prescription for the medicines you will need to take. Oh and…” he added as an afterthought, “You can put your things back on now” The doctor turned back to his computer and started typing out the information that she could take to the chemist next door, pushing his glasses back up again in the usual habit of his. That was one of the things about Kain; he was a fidget.

Purri Town

There were two or three places to stay in Purri town. The nearest to Eralin was a reputable building known as ‘The Wayfarer’s Balm’. It was a pleasant inn that had a reputation for being clean, affordable and presenting nice, although sparse, rooms that had been designed specifically so that the view from each window was like a framed picture of the town from different angles.

The views appreciated the fountains, churches, squares, carefully designed shop buildings and the decorative tiled rooves.

The architecture was a blend of Elvish and human aesthetics, although those buildings nearer the forest were clearly more Elvish in design.

Each building, however, held elements of nature in it. Whether it was the detail of flowers or patterns carved in beams or stone, furniture or roofs, or the use and method of construction, even of the more unnatural materials such as glass or metal (found mainly in the town’s main commerce centre) to make something pleasing to the eye, creativity was everywhere.

Nabelin pulled her clothes on. "I have been traveling through mountain ranges, if that's what you mean." She had another coughing attack, and clutched at the chair with her free hand. The quiver dangled dangerously and then fell out of her hand. Arrows went everywhere and the bow clattered down with the quiver. She groaned and bent down to pick them up, but that just caused her to cough even more. "I'm sorry sir, but I can't seem to stop coughing." By the end of that coughing fit, her face was flushed, her hair came out of it's braid, showing how long it really was, and she was gasping for breath.

Eralin finally choose one of the inns, the one closest to the forest, and hence the one with the most Elvish design. Opening the door, he walked right up to the owner. "Hello, my name is Eralin. I'll like to use a room for a couple of nights." He spoke beautiful English, though it was complimented by a the same musical accent of Elvish that Nabelin had.

Kain had just finished typing up the prescription for the young elvish woman when she was hit by another bout of coughing. He wanted to write it out faster but he didn't want to make a mistake either, checking it over for accuracy.

At the sound of something rattling onto the ground, the doctor turned from taiking the script out of the printer resting on his desk and saw that all of her arrows had fallen. "Oh, here, let me help you"

Kain rose to his feet and joined Nabelin in kneeling upon the ground, collecting as many arrows as he could find. "I'm not too sure that I'm happy to let you leave in this condition" he remarked, taking in her dishevelled appearance. She may be an elf with a stronger resistance to and recovery from illnesses, but she seemed to be worse than he thought.

"Please, stay here at the medical centre and rest. We have facilites for longer term patients, however, they're seperate from this clinic. The reception for the wards is back through the doors where you came in and folllow the hall down to the left" he explained, motioning with a hand that held one of her arrows. "I'll make a call to the reception there and let them know you're coming. I'd like to keep an eye on you while you recover, if you wouldn't mind"

Purri Town - Forest Inn

The elfen woman behind the counter looked up from speaking to one of her staff and smiled at him, "Welcome to you. Certainly, we have several rooms available" she handed him an ornate silver key. "Here is your room key. Is there anything else you would need for your stay here?"

The cost for the stay would be tallied at the end of the three nights, or in case he decided to stay longer. Some of the inns required an up-front deposit, yet this one was not like them it seemed.

Nabelin nodded. "I think you are right. It is fine that you come and check on me. That is your job, after all." Her musical accent was a bit strained from all her coughing. She slowly got up and clutched at her quiver. She went out the door and into the hall on her left. Soon she came to a building where the receptionist waited to take her to her room. "Thank you." She mouthed the words because she did not have the strength to speak. Once she was in her room, she put her stuff in a dresser. She counted her arrows and only then did she noticed that she was missing one. Sighing, she laid down and promptly fell asleep, her body needing the rest.

Eralin shifted his feet. "I'm only 1872 years old, so I don't want to come across as rude." He nibbled on his lip and clutched at the key in his hand. "Is there a tavern, near here? I'm getting really hungry, and I am sick of lembas." He was a bit taller than his sister, by .01 of an inch ((I believe that is roughly 1 cm)).

“Of course not” the inn’s owner replied politely, a soft smile curling her mouth while her eyes sparkled with amusement at his disclosure, “You needn’t concern yourself about that. We meet all sorts of people in this town”.

She inclined her head gracefully at the inquiry of an inn a tavern, “Yes and many fine dining establishments besides. There are maps and a guide located in your room with further information on those, although I will mention the Silver Spoon; it is located across the street from the path to the forest chapel. Look for the tree bearing purple blossoms that grows in the courtyard out front” she informed Eralin.

Kain was glad she agreed with him and followed directions. It was always more difficult when they didn’t. Elves did not become ill easily and they had a much higher resistance to and recovery from illnesses than other races so Nabelin’s condition had him worried.

In fact the elves here also had advanced healing knowledge and skills. Most of the people of this ‘tribe’, including the medical staff of the centre where Kain worked, were elven.

These people had shared their homelands with the few humans that appeared in Purri, unchanged from their original capture and stay in the science compound.

It made sense that there were few, since any humans who did wind up captured from other worlds were often changed into something else by the time they escaped. It was uncertain, however, whether the elves that dwelt in this part of the world had originated there and had their lands stolen by other tribes, or had been captured from other worlds and once they’d escaped, had decided to make this place, a place of natural beauty, home. The second scenario was the most likely. But how long had –

“Ow!” Breaking out of his musings at the sharp stab in his finger, Kain realised he was still holding one of his patient’s arrows. He had been tapping the top of it while he thought and the pointed tip had pierced his fingertip. Sucking on the bead of blood that appeared, he stood from his desk where he had been looking over some notes on the next patient to come in that afternoon. I had better return this to Nabelin. I’ll go and give it to the receptionist in the other ward. There’s still a bit of time before my next appointment comes in.
