ABOUT BRUTEBALL
What Bruteball is: Bruteball is a grueling sport that’s 10% trying to get the ball and 100% enjoying the sound of someone else’s bones snap as you hit them as hard as you can with your body. Players run at break-neck speeds to tackle the other team members in order to get a ball that bites, curses and swears to the other end of the field by any means necessary.
Set up much like Americanized football, the general idea is the same with one big difference – rules are for losers. In bruteball, penalties are rarely called, players are rarely subbed out, and pretty much anything is fair game. Kids, this sport is not for the faint of heart – previously dubbed ‘bloodball’ from the sheer amount of blood you will lose in playing the sport, its sole purpose is to relieve excess energy and competitiveness that often results in overly macho highschoolers getting into detention every other day of the week.
How the game works: Two teams face each other on a field that is 120 yards long by and 53 1/3 yards, with two 6.66 yard high goal posts on either end. Unlike real football, in bruteball there is no offense and defense -- all players are likely to be on the field at the same time, with the exception being if the other team is short a few players (and even then, this is not mandatory). Then the extra players are rotated in as the game progresses.
Although physical altercations are 9/10ths the game, the main purpose is to move the ball into the other person's endzone. This is especially difficult because of the fact that the ball is, in fact, alive. It does not like to be held, and it will bite at all players in an attempt to get the player to let go of it. Many seasoned players have developed unique ways of putting off the bruteball's brutal attacks.
The ball may be moved in several different ways (including running the ball or throwing the ball to an open player,) however as soon as the ball touches the ground or the player holding the ball is on the ground, the 'play' is over, and the teams must return to their sides of the line.
Below is a visual representation of how all plays start.
The team with the ball gets 4 plays to try to move the ball 10 yards towards the opponents' end zone. If this distance is made, the offensive team has another 4 plays to move another 10 yards. However, if 4 plays are not enough to move 10 yards, the ball is turned over to the opposing team.
Terminology and Points:
Bruteball - The official ball of the sport. This ball is shaped roughly like a football, with one exception -- it is alive. It bites, it curses, and it generally is not happy about anything. Image pending.
Field Goal - 3 points Fumble Incomplete pass Play Touchdown - 6 points Turnover
What you need:
1. To be built like a tank – if you can’t bench-press your own weight, GET OUT. 2. To have nerves of steel – Oh man, your leg’s not supposed to bend like that… SUCK IT UP, CRYING IS FOR BABIES. 3. To have the intense urge to beat another creature into the dirt on a regular basis.
** PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, IT IS OK TO KNOW ABSOULTELY NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL. Bruteball is VERY loose, and does not have very many rules at all -- everything you need to know will be provided in the posts <3 These posts are also only for your rping references -- you will not need to remember any of this unless you would like to mention something specific in your own rps.
*** For a very good, basic explanation of football, for those who are completely clueless, feel free to read this if so inclined <3

TRYOUTS ARE OVER, BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STILL PLAY, CONTACT NATA OR LEI VIA PM TO SET UP A 'PRIVATE TRYOUT!'
In signing up for tryouts, whether private or semester-ly, please read over the list of these positions and think about which your character would be good at. We will make as many people as we can happy, and you WILL get a position no matter what, but Nuk and Altair are not likely to give a scrawny character the offensive tackle position, no matter how funny we think it would be. Also, in trying out, you recognize that you are not guaranteed the specific position you are trying for, even if you were the first to apply -- it is not a first come, first serve basis. You are, however, more likely to get a position that has less people trying out for it, so listing a few positions you'd be interested in is perfectly acceptable!
If you have ANY problems with your character being set in a specific position, please contact either Lei or Nata beforehand. We will try to do our best, however, unless there is a good IC reason for them not to be in that position, remember that you CAN use a position a character doesn't really want to be in as character development, and in the end it's not like the position matters much anyway. xD
*** More positions will be added as interest improves.
