I just wondered in the subbed Sailor Moon. Why does Mamoru, call Usagi, Usako? ninja

In Japan, if you add the -ko to the end of someone's name, it signifies that you are a couple and that you love them. Usually, guys use it (at least from what I've seen).

Basically what she said. Usa is sort of a shorter version of Usagi, and used as a nickname. Then, add the "ko" for the reason mentioned before.

yeah its cute. usako fits her pretty well. its a nickname they give eachother since they are a couple. ^_^. but mamo-chan...eeeh that's alright to me...just not the best nickname..then again i dont really like mamoru anyway... stare

'ko' is also added for baby, eg. neko = cat, koneko = kitten
Effectively, Mamoru is calling Usagi 'Baby bunny'

Because "Usagi" means "Bunny". I'm pretty sure they use dub names in the manga(I'm not sure, because I've only read one volume), so they give her real name as "Serena" and nickname her "Bunny".
