They thought they were safe....Welcome to Second Earth But they were very, very wrong. Welcome to Second Earth. It's been only a short five years since humans first came to the planet, forced away from their own. First Earth experienced rapid deteriorization after the year 2050. The atmosphere began to dissolve, and the intense heat from the sun melted the vast majority of the both polar icecaps. The increase of fresh water into the oceans harmed not only the ocean life, but rose sea levels. Entire nations, such as Madagascar, Hawaii, and many of the Japanese islands became completely submerged, thousands upon thousands of innocent people dying because of it. The increase of solar rays laid waste to the wetlands, drying up marshes and turning once lush landscapes into barren wastelands and deserts. Plantlife wouldn't grow, so the animals started to die. And with their only sources of food gone, humans began to die of starvation, too.
Thankfully, a breakthrough in science came; interspacial teleportation. Astrologers began their desperate search for a livable planet, somewhere similiar to what was once their Earth. And, after three years of frantic search, they found one.
A whole galaxy away, this planet (now known as Second Earth) had an atmosphere very similiar to Earth's. There was fresh water, plantlife, and native species of animals roaming about it. Exploration teams scoured the planet, making sure it was livable. Their results were favorable. Soon, the militaries of various countries began moving their people, readying them for the teleporter. Some people refused to go, and some countries banned their people from going. But still, the movement was vast. And unfortunately, not all made it. Interspacial teleportation was not something for the feint of heart. It is an exhausting journey, both physically and mentally. Many perished in transport.
But now, Second Earth has a steady human population with one main city were the majority of the humans live. Some chose to live on their own, or start smaller villages throughout the planet. And so far, things have worked out. There has been peace throughout the peoples, and a new form of government has taken place. Everyone was happy.
Until they came.
The local wildlife had been simple enough. There were those who were clearly pray, and those who were clearly predator. Humans had found ways to protect themselve from those creatures that may attack them, and for a time it had worked. But then something new appeared. Humanoid, these creature were originally thought to be the native peoples. But, this was clearly wrong. Roughly the same size as a human male, and with two arms and legs, these creatures stalk the nights. Their skin is a sickly, pale green color andlays on their bodies in fleshy, sagging wrinkles. Their eyes are shiny black. Their teeth, razor sharp, were designed for tearing apart flesh. With three fingers tip with sharp claws, and with feet to match, these creatures are deadly fast. They travel in packs of four to six, hunting prey together. They rely on their nightvision for hunting at night, and their incredible sense of smell for the daytime, as they cannot see during the day. This is when they are usually dorment. They make a range of sounds, from grunts to roars to hisses. But, most importantly, they are killers. Their entire beings are designed to hunt and kill. And with the humans now colonizing their home planet, they now have new game. These creatures, dubbed by the humans as Ravengers, invadedon the city one night, destroying more than half of it, and killing anyone they could find.
Now, with less than half of their population still alive, and more than half of that with some sort of major injury, things are looking grim. What had once been thought to be paradise has now turned into a hellish impisonment. The Ravengers seem to have no weakness, no Achille's Heel. The survivors' only chance is to make it to the ocean, way in the east. There, three boats sit, once having been dedicated for further exploration. But the journey will be tough, and not everyone will make it. But they have to try.
They have to S U R V I V E.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxM i k a e l a ✙ H a r v yxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx❝Fate's a busy woman! Sometimes, you gotta give her a hand.❞
Sweat trickled down the young woman's neck. The humidity of this planet was almost unbearable, and with the hot sun beating down on her, she was surprised she hadn't fainted from heat exhaustion. Her long, red hair was tied up off her neck, swaying back and forth with each step she took. Her slight frame ached all over; she was stiff and sore from all this traveling. But they had to keep going. The Ravengers would strike again soon, it was already mid-afternoon now. Night would fall before they knew it and, although nightfall also meant more comfortable temperatures, it also brought with it danger. Clear blue eyes darted from tree to tree, looking for any sort of danger now, in the daytime. Only smaller creature native to Second Earth scurried about, minding their own business. Still, it did not help the pounding in her heart.
"Mikaela? Are you sure you want to be up here? Why don't you fall back with the others, huh? Take a break." It was one of her friends, an older woman. She had beautiful the week before; well groomed with soft, kind features. But the stress and brutality that she had been witness to in the past seven days had taken it's toll. There was a new hardness in her eyes, and she seemed much thinner.
Mikaela shook her head. "And miss all the fun?" She replied, the sarcasm clear in her voice as she gave the older woman a tired smile. "I don't think so."
The older woman shook her head, but let it go. Mikaela was a stubborn woman if there ever was one, and it was no use to argue with her. She was nice enough, though, when she wasn't running that mouth of her's. And brilliant, too, at times. She was a scientist, studying the plantlife on Second Earth, along with some of the native animals. Her research was facinating, but when one actually met the mind behind the paperwork, the image shattered. Mikaela was a rough-and-tough woman who's ego always seemed to get the best of her. She was foul mouthed and for all the knowledge stuffed into that cranium of her's, she probably didn't even know the term 'self-control'. But she was refreshing, and fun to be around.
But still, that gun she held in her hands just looked out of place. Mikaela wouldn't hurt a fly if she could help it. But she would protect those she loved.
"We'll break here!" Came a booming voice. Mikaela didn't know who, but she was grateful anyways. She could use a break. Setting down her heavy pack, she plopped down on the soil below. It's odd purple sheen still made her smile. Water bottles were being passed around, and she gladly took her's. Her clothing was light; a simple army green tank top and khaki shorts with good, tough tennis shoes for the hike. Of course, her shoes were a little worse for wear, seeing as they'd been traveling for a week now. But still, she felt heavily over dressed. She couldn't wait until they reached some sort of body of water; a swim would do her (and everyone else) some good.
She could still remember that very night, seven days ago. The Ravengers invaded their city. Their grotesque forms swarmed around her home. She could see out her window from her hiding spot; she saw people get slaughtered, and then eaten. She saw buildings burn to the ground. She saw Ravengers look within her home, only to determine no one was there. And as quickly as they'd come, they left. There must've been hundreds of them, the largest pack she'd ever seen. These creatures must've been intelligent, planning the attack. It was organized and swift. The guards at the only entrances to the city had been quietly taken care of, leaving them to have the run of the place. They only left when dawn was upon them.
Few had survived. And, in the week they'd been traveling, their numbers had dwindled even more. If this continues, Mikaela thought morbidly, no one's going to make it to those boats...

With a grunt, Robb hoisted his backpack higher up onto his shoulders, before wiping of his brow with his forearm. He missed the fan he had previously enjoyed in his home in the village. Even if it was seriously hot in the daytime here on Second Earth, the fan had been nice to hang out underneath when he wasn't on duty. Especially since it was shady. He was okay with the heat, but he felt like his skin was about to burst from the heat and clogging humidity that surrounded them out in the wild open. He didn't hate it, but he would much rather prefer being back in his own temporary home.
While they walked, he stayed pretty quiet and to himself. He was usually upbeat and playful, but recent events had stilled his sharp tounge and his equally sharp wit. No one seemed up for much conversation, and he didn't know very many people. He didn't really get close to people. Instead of talking and fooling around, his mind was drawn in to reflect on the current situation. And his dog, who was only a puppy. He had smuggled the pup through the teleport underneath his jacket. He was surprised that the dog, Jordy, had survived, but he was damned glad. It was good to have his best friend along. Hopefully the dog would survive as long as Robb did. At the moment Jordy was draped across his shoulder, tired of walking, taking a nap.
Robb hated that they had been forced out. Out of all of Earth's population, this was only a scant amount of human life that they had with them. He doubted many of them would make it to the boats, and even then, they would keep dying off unless they came across a huge stroke of luck. The whole planet seemed to be against them surviving, and all of the odds were working against them making it to anywhere where they would be safe. He hated being such a pessimist (not really, he was a huge pessimist to begin with), but that's how the whole thing was going. You couldn't sugarcoat death.
When they stopped, he wasn't as tired or sore as the others. He had been a low worker on Earth and back in the village, carrying things and building things, and his body was already pretty well toned and well adjusted to the excercise. He was also stationed at the front, a large rifle in his hands. He looked natural with the gun, like he had grown up to be a guard or mercenary. It felt right in his hands, and if given the chance against the alien monsters, he'd unload on them, and gladly.
Robb ended up seated by a red-head, whom he didn't know the name of, and Jordy slid off of his shoulder, suddenly quite excitable.
"Sit." He told the pup firmly, pouring some water onto its snout, and the pup eagerly lapped it up. He drank some of it next, wiping his mouth on his arm after he was done. He leaned back on an elbow, letting out a sigh, and then a small laugh as Jordy clambered onto his chest. Robb rubbed the dogs head affectionately, with a grin.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxM i k a e l a ✙ H a r v yxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx❝Fate's a busy woman! Sometimes, you gotta give her a hand.❞
Mikaela chugged the rest of her water. The cool liquid ran down her throat, quenching her thirst, but doing nothing for her heat issues. At least they had tree cover! Walking through the forests sure beat the hell out of walking through the desert, or even the roads!
"Sit." Mikaela started. Surely the command wasn't for her, as her rump was already firmly planted on the ground. Turning her head, she saw a man with a dog. A dog? There weren't many of those around anymore. Even before the attack, they'd been rare. Only the richest people got to take their's with. Even then, not many did. Of course, others tried to sneak their beloved pets with them, but many often died in transport. To see one again brought a smile to her face.
She watched them, out of the corner of her eye. The man gave him some water, and leaned back, allowing the pup up onto his chest. It was too cute. She had to chuckled. "Cute dog." She said.
Turning herself to face him, she let her curiousity take over. It was what made her a good scientist; always asking questions, always searching for answer, always questioning everything. But when applied to real life, it just seemed to get one people's nerves. "So what's him name? What kind of dog is he? Have you had him for long?" She rambled off. Her eyes swept over the dog, holding their usual critizing look. He seemed healthy enough. As healthy as any person making this journey, at least. And with someone to give him a piggy-back ride for part of the way, she figured this pup was alright.
Someone elbowed her; it was her friend again. "Introduce yourself before you start asking questions." She chided, voice low.
Mikaela rolled her eyes. "It's not like he asked." She muttered. But still, with a sigh, she held out a hand. "Mikaela Harvy." She said. "Scientist. Revolutionist. Currently hoping to make it the boats alive. And you are?"

Robb ruffled the dog's head with a smile, glad that he seemed to be doing well for the journey. Hopefully he'd make it to the ships. Robb would be in a sore sort if his little friend didn't make under Robb's watch. The problem would most likely be their pursuers at night, especially if the pup happened to wander off. Soon he'd have to fashion a leash for the tiny thing. He wasn't fond of the idea of the small creature getting ripped to pieces because he went exploring at the wrong time. The pup was beginning to wrestle with his hand when the woman began speaking to him. Robb eyed the woman, an eyebrow arching in part curiosity and part annoyance. He hadn't expected someone to be so forward and insistent in a situation like they were in.
Nevertheless, he laughed, putting his hands up in mock surrender. The pup was growling softly, leaping to try and recapture the hand that had just escaped its grasp.
"Sorry, sorry! What did I do to be interrogated?" He asked, with a charming grin. Yet even with this jest, he reached over, shaking her hand warmly. "I am currently leading my crew of pirates to find the greatest booty of the universe. Captain Rob Greystone, at your service." He joked, bowing somewhat from where he was sitting. "This is my trusty mutt, Jordy."

The man beside her was certainly charming, in a way. after all, anyone who could still joke around after what they'd all been through Mikaela considered good company. Or insane. But this Robb didn't seem to be the later. Smiling back, she gave a light chuckle at his introduction, turning her gaze to watch the puppy. She sincerely hoepd the little guy made it to the boats. It'd be a shame if the race died with him.
Looking back up at the master. "Well, it's a pleasure." She said, taking her hand back. And it was. The last thing she needed was to spend the enitre trip to the boats with her friend, Lorna. At least now she had someone else she could talk with, if only just to change things up a bit. Reaching over to ruffle the pup's head, she cuckled. "And it's a pleasure to meet you, Jordy." She told him.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, the young scientist glanced towards the sky. Slowly but surely, their light was fading. At the most, they only had four, five hours before night fell completely and the Ravengers would be on the hunt once more. How many more would they lose? Two? Five? Ten? Thinking about it made the smile drop from her face.
