It was a simple story, the story of a little boy and a little girl. Neighbors. Introduced at a young age by their mothers. Michael went by Kyle, and Lilly, was just that. Lilly. Their stories were alike in so many ways. Dead beat dads, hard working moms, only children. So of course the two became best friends. But, something was different about Lilly. She was deaf. When she was three she caught a disease, meningitis, causing her to lose all hearing. So, Kyle picked up sign language quickly. He didn't find it weird that his best friend couldn't hear. She spoke more than other deaf people, and was great at reading lips. As she got older though, she and Kyle couldn't go to the same school. Her mother enrolled her into a school for the deaf, fearing that her child would get made fun of if she went into normal school. Kyle wasn't too worried about the separation, since they were neighbors and he could see her when he wanted. So life went on as normal as it could be, the two grew out of elementary school, and went into middle school, learning about the new world of growing up. Kyle found a few new friends, but never replaced Lilly, and she did the same. But Kyle would always be her best friend. No matter what.
And then they moved on to high school. This was where they would take one step closer to becoming adults. It was scary, and new, and for the first two years they stuck together. Until one day they got into a fight. Lilly was hanging out with Kyle, when some of his friends came over. They made fun of her, and cracked rude jokes about being deaf around her. Though she couldn't hear she read their lips. Without telling Kyle, she crept away, walking down the street from the park. She called her second closest friend, Emmet from school. He hurried to her, and found her with tears in her eyes on the side of the road. They sat for a moment without communicating, before Emmet pulled Lilly in for a hug. Kyle came running down the street, searching for Lilly. He questioned why she left, which led to the fight between them. It practically tore Kyle in two when Lilly got on Emmet's motorcycle. That would be the last he'd see her in two years.
Kyle and Lilly kept their distance for two years, which led to Kyle falling in with the bad crowd. He began dressing in black, smoking cigarettes, and drinking. He went to parties every weekend, and cut class almost every day. He dropped his old friends and found new ones, bad ones. With a new girl every week, some would say he had it made. But he thought differently. All he wanted was that one girl. Lilly. Sometimes he found himself staring over at her house when he got in his car. She never left his mind, and he always wondered how she was doing. Well, she wasn't doing as bad as him, actually, she wasn't doing that bad at all. After their fight she was upset, and of course she always thought of him, but he hadn't stuck up for her. And that hurt her. So, she made some new friends, excelled in school, and became an amazing young woman. So, what happens when Kyle catches Lilly one day, and asks to talk to her for a moment?
