The bombs hit, and plunged the world into a post-apocalyptic, nuclear winter. With a much colder earth, remnants on the Eastern Coast of North America refused survived because of the air-dropped aide from the less effected countries. Some of them even made small communities around the drop sites. But years after the missiles were pointed at the sky, a second wave hit and destroyed one community in particular, while two members were out scouting. This is the story of what happened next...

Name: Marcus Adalwolf Age: 19 Community Job: Guard Bio: Before the second wave of bombs Marcus was simple on of the scavengers until he came upon another survivor without a community. He brought them back with him and let them live here even teaching them about their community. Life was fine and dandy until they got attacked. A group led by the outsiders attacked then killing many people in the community they had built. When the intruders were killed Marcus was left injured and formed a deep hatred for outsiders and makes it a point not to let them in.
Name: Amon Alexanders Age: Twenty-three Community Job: Night and Day patrol Bio: He before the second wave was a trader...he just wandered around trading with various communities. He wasn't really hated or anything as he did a lot of good work unlike most. After the second wave he helped rebuild most of one community and got invited to stay there. He made friends with Marcus before the attack but after their friendship has been strained. He got stuck on patrol after that as no one really trust him any more but they let him live there.

Name:Olive Harfield Age:Twenty-One Community Job:Scout/Scavenger Bio:Before the second wave, Olive was in charge of taking care of the food supplies that were air-lifted near the community. But afterwards, she has taken over Marcus' job as scout, often going out ahead of the others to try and find livable areas in the snowy world. Because she is aware of how little supplies remain, and how difficult it is to find new supplies, she is very wary of other groups of survivors. Name: Emilie Trainor Age: Eighteen Community Job: Nurse Bio: Emilie was just recently brought into the community, shortly before the second wave. The group had accepted her because of her doctoring skills, but has since grown distant towards her because of the many lives she was not able to save after the attacks. Even though that was not her fault, she knows that she is treated differently, and is a bit of an outsider.

It had only been a week or so since the second wave of bombings, yet Olive felt as if she had been living this new life for a very long time. It was another cold morning in the nuclear winter--and another day that Olive would need to spend trying to find new sources of supplies. The group would need to move again--Olive had searched a three mile radius around the current location, and there was no conceivable source. Getting up and leaving her tent, she walked around, trying to find Marcus.
Emilie did not move or react when Olive left the tent. With so few people left in the community, the tents were basically broken down into male and female lodgings--so few friendships and relationships still survived, that sleeping arrangements had few emotional relevance anymore. Once the other girl was gone, Emilie too got up and left the tent. Some people in the community were suffering ongoing injuries, and needed her help.

Marcus slept right outside one of the men's tents. It was overly crowded inside so he often slept outside...over the years he had grown used to the cold. When the morning arrived he opened his eyes right when the night guard went inside the tent to sleep. He stood and dusted himself off as he grabbed his gun from beside the fence and climbed the guard tower. This morning was particularly cold and once again people were running out of supplies. He cleared the thought from his mind..it wasn't his job to keep track..just make sure everything was safe as he stood on the platform just at the gate. Amon wandered back in the camp making it his official fifty-sixth round of the night as it crossed into day. It was rather brutal on him...up night and day with only maybe two-three hours of rest and now it was time for that rest. He stopped in the middle of camp before he collapsed passing out from all the time he was up. This community really despised outsiders and it showed however as he was taking most of it for them. He fell asleep though he was rather scratched up and bruised from last nights patrol.

"Marcus!" Olive called when she saw him taking his place as guard for the day. She jogged up to the guard tower, climbing up to his platform, popping up beside him. Noticing that he had his gun with him, she was a bit wary when she joined him. Leaning against ledge of the tower, she shivered a bit, realizing how cold it was up here. "I know you don't want to hear this, but I think we need to move."
Walking out into the broken community, Emilie saw Amon coming off of his night shift of guard duty. He too was an outsider, and had taken on a large portion of responsibility, seemingly to try and gain acceptance from the others. When she saw him collapse onto the ground, Emilie ran up to him and worked to pick him up off the ground. With the soot-filled sky blocking out the sun, the cold world had claimed many lives in their community--many people suffered from pneumonia. And with their limited supplies, there was very little Emilie could do to help them. "Come on, Amon," she whispered. "Wake up. If you sleep here, you could get sick."

Marcus sighed and looked over at her " Okay but why are you telling me?" he asked " I'm a guard not a scavenger." he said ' Take it up with the leader or something, I only make sure the villagers are safe." he said and turned back looking to make sure nobody was approaching. He then turned around to see something in the middle of the the community " Hmmm..I bet its those foolish outsiders...what are they doing?" he asked himself out loud.
Amon could barley speak or keep his eyes open " I-I know...I'm just so...tired...I haven't slept...In...three days." he said. He wasn't able to sleep for three days only beacuse he wasn't able to get back into the village...it was round after round after round. He looked at her " Emilie..are they treating you alright?" he asked and looked around seeing the regular inhabitants look at him with disgust and them start to whisper and talk...being called Lazy, Weak, Punk, Outsiders, Waste of flesh..it wasn't new to him so he put up with it.

Olive nodded her head. "I know that," she replied, crossing her arms to try and stay warm up here--she had forgotten her thick coat. "But the leader doesn't want to hear it from us. I've tried breaching the subject before, and I was told to look harder." The community was eventually going to die with such poor leadership, but it was going to die a lot sooner if the scavengers couldn't find food. Looking over the side at the two people in the middle of the community. "Oh, that's just Emilie. She's a bit melodramatic, so don't mind her."
Emilie helped him sit up, so that at least his head wasn't in the ice and snow. "Aren't there other guards who could pick up your shifts?" she asked. Having him work for three days straight not only wasn't fair to him, but very ineffective when it comes to guarding. When he asked her how she was being treated, she offered him a weak smile. "They have very little choice but to treat me with some respect," she explained. "I'm the only one bandaging them all up at the end of the day."

Marcus shrugged " Then force that dumb old man to listen..or do I have to baby sit you again while you do it?" he asked looking at her obviously annoyed. Marcus was often mission minded so he hated being disturbed. He looked at the two people in the middle " Is she a friend of yours?" he asked her aiming his gun as if he would shoot.
He shook his head " They won't allow it..I only get a few hours....I need to sleep for the time I have." he said trying to fall back on the ground. Amon smiled " Its good they treat you well...it makes my job easier Emilie." he said and sighed closing his eyes.

Olive gave him a look. "I don't need a babysitter," she muttered, looking away from him, and down at the community below. "What I need is backup. You know that he's hardheaded, and no one wants to know that their community is dying because of their inadequacy." She knew Marcus wasn't too hot for the idea, but he would come around and help her eventually--he knew what was at stake. When she noticed him pointing his gun towards the two in the middle, Olive pushed the barrel away from their direction. "Are you an idiot? You realize that she's the only reliable doctor left in the community, right? Kill her and you ******** everyone over."
Emilie smiled at him, but was still not about to let him sleep in the middle of the community. Amon had enough of a target on his back, without being an obvious target in the middle of the snow. "I want you to sleep for your whole break, but not in the snow," she told him, half-dragging him to the tent she used as the infirmary. "There's an empty bed in the med tent."

Marcus laughed " I was getting a better view..like hell I was going to actually shoot her." he said " Though the one in white...I don't think anyone would miss him." he said " Well whatever come and talk to me tomorrow morning maybe I'll decide to help you out." he said though odds were he probably would.
Amon kept his eyes closed tired beyond all reason but he put his feet on the ground to get there. Once there he fell on the bed and fell fast asleep glad to get a moment of rest even if it was only a few hours.

He may have been laughing, but Olive didn't find any of it funny--she didn't like outsiders that much, either, but she wasn't about to risk the wellbeing of the community because of a prejudice towards certain members. "Our population is low enough without you 'weeding out' the ones you don't like," Olive muttered when he mentioned the one wearing white. "And why tomorrow morning? You aren't going to be guarding all day, are you?"
After the short walk to the med tent, Emilie made sure he hit the bed before he collapse from exhaustion. "Poor kid," she murmured, sitting beside him on the cot, gently stroking his hair. Soon, a few people came in, needing their wounds to be bandaged again--all of them complaining that the newly washed bandages were too bold. They were cold because the only source of water was melted snow, and even though it was melted, it was still very cold.

Marcus shrugged " I realize, but the guy is going to die eventually...the village leader has him working day and night shifts with only three hours of rest when they feel its alright...and he's the only person who has it..everyone gets enough sleep around here with people switching duties, besides, we have enough patrol members." he said " I'll actually want to think about it tonight and have my answer in the morning, I'm the day guard, I guard until its 9:30." he said " Now would you go away Olive..your distracting me as usual!" he said though he had a smile on his face.
Amon seemed to sleep peacefully until all the noise finally got to him in his sleep. He opened his eyes..it had only been one hour. He noticed tons of people in the tent once again complaining. Amon himself knew it might have been time to move as he looked around for Emilie..he might as well thank her for the help.

Olive found it very weird that the village leader had him working so many hours guarding if he didn't trust the outsider--why give so much responsibility to someone if you don't think they should handle any? "You guard until 9:30? Well, I have a feeling that you know when I'll be bothering you again," Olive said with a smile. "And you know you like it when I distract you." And with that, she descended the ladder and left the guard tower, to continue her search with the other scavengers.
The greatest ailment in the community was one that Emilie could not fix--undernourishment. The children were especially hit, because the few supplies that remained and served as a staple for the populace weren't enough to support their needs. But you'd never know it hit children, because amongst the complainers for warmer bandages, were adults crying out for her to fix their children's below average growth. Seeing Amon get up, Emilie took a break from the noise and confusion and came to see how he was doing. "Are you alright? You didn't sleep for very long."

Marcus smiled when she left " That woman is very strange, but she's a good person.' he said and went back to guarding only having to aim his gun a few times.
He shook his head and looked at her smiling " Sorry the noise woke me up is all." he said " The villagers are giving you a hard time, I think its time we moved and found a good place to settle for awhile..maybe you can quite the noise." he said " This nuclear winter...its too much." he said " But now I have to go back to work.." he said and tried to stand but winced a bit before he fell back as he pulled up the leg of his pants and looked at it...a deep cut he had ignored due to how sleepy he was.
