I'm confused with these two words. I know they both mean "place" but I think they are still used differently. Can anyone explain to me the difference and how they are used? question

From my experience, ところ is more of an abstract concept, whereas ばしょ is a physical location.

Examples:
「ところで、どんな場所が好き?」 - "By the way, what kinds of places do you like?"
「この曲で'キャーキャー'と歌うところが好き。」 - "In this song I like the part where 'kyaa kyaa' is sung."

I'm the same as Dorinkingu, I've learned ところ as an abstract term and ばしょ as referring to a physical location.

The way I learned ところ was through a phrase asking: Do you want to eat at my place?
