Snot Advancement Exam

Venue: Classroom 13
Time: 10am, upcoming Moonday

Please be punctual; latecomers will not be allowed to participate.

The classroom had not been cleaned up from the last exam; in fact, the setting was the same even if the task wasn't. As usual, Malcolm was in the classroom long before the students were, a clipboard in his hand.

"Your task is simple," He pointed at the long stretch of sandy road running through the class, potted plants littering the path; there was a pit of doom to the left and water on the right... Falling into either of those seemed like a really bad idea, "Get from this end to the other end before you get too tired to continue. Be careful of the man eating plants along the way - they'll try to trap you in their jaws."

Exam Mechanics
-> Everyone starts off with 30 HP, which is the amount of HP you have as a year 1 student.
-> Roll 1d20 to run! Your goal is to hit 80 before your HP reaches 0!
-> The number you get is the distance traveled! Please remember to add it up!

If you get...
1 - 3 : Nothing happens!
4 - 6 : A man eating plant snaps at you! You lose 5HP!
7 - 9 : You almost tripped and fell into the pit! You lose 3HP!
10 - 12 : You almost tripped and fell into the water! You lose 5HP!
13 - 15 : Nothing happens!
16 - 18 : A man eating plant snaps at you! You lose 5HP!
19 - 20 : You almost tripped and fell into the pit! You lose 3HP!

Julian had come to the classroom right on time, the Professor was already there and waiting. In all honesty... Well, he didn't know what he had been expecting. All of the school trips had taught him that he really shouldn't expect any sort of normalcy from his school.
Point A to point B... didn't seem to bad. He could deal with the plants and the pit, but the water... He would most definitely stay clear of that if he could help it.


Distance Traveled :: 20/80
HP :: 30 - 3 = 27

He got a good ways before slipping on the sand and almost fell into that pit that Malcolm had talked about. Spreading his wings, he caught himself before that happened, but it was still a close call and when he straightened his foot hurt a bit.
Not terribly bothered by it, though, he continued on, intent on his goal.

So far so good! He was avoiding the plants and the water, and at least he hadn't fallen into the pit. Maybe he would get through this.

Again he tripped and almost fell into that hole. And even though he fell on his face this time and scraped up his hands in the sand, he was still glad it wasn't the water. Julian wasn't sure how deep either were, but at least he knew he could probably fly out of the pit if he had to. The water... It would drag him down, make his wings heavy, he could drown... Sure, he felt that the professor wouldn't let him drown, but it was still a fear.

He'd slowed down a bit after that last trip, thinking that maybe rushing this wasn't the best idea. He couldn't go terribly slowly, but maybe if he took his time a bit more he wouldn't trip up as much.

HP :: 24 - 5 = 19

Of course, going slowly did have its drawbacks. The first plant he passed, he didn't go fast enough by and it caught him when it snapped at him.
Julian jerked away with a yelp, moving quickly away from the carnivorous greenery.

HP :: 19 - 5 = 14

Jerking away and heading back into a dash had not been the best idea after all. For as soon as he had, he almost went careening into the water. His eyes went wide and his throat closed up as he scrambled away from the pool, moving away from it as if his life depended on it.
Which, in his experience with water, it rather did.

Almost into the water again! Julian scrambled away and sat on his hands and knees for a moment, trying to catch his breath and fight down the rising fright. He was almost there, the end of the course was in sight. He just needed to get up and move. He could do this, he could beat this, he could do better, he could be better. It was water, but in the end this was nothing compared to what he had been through so far at this school.
His mind wandered to the small jar of ash in his room.
That thought got him up and moving again.

HP :: 9 - 5 = 4

He was scraped up from falling and bit up from the plants and scared to Jack of falling in that water, but he'd made it. A small, triumphant smile spread on Julian's face as he stopped at the end, turning around to see how his classmate did.

Okay so the note had said not to be late, but she was a little late. Only a little! Mostly because she had stood outside the door for some time trying to figure out what punctual meant, and how she could be it. Eventually she had just given up and walked in the door.

Lucky for her, Malcolm had started his speech right as she walked in. She wanted an applause for that timing, man.

Danny listened intently and got more and more excited as Malcolm went on. Running? HER EXAM WAS RUNNING? This was the greatest day ever. She had heard from a few knobs that Savage had made some of them swim through water. Well guess who was now Danny's favorite teacher? (It was Malcolm).

After hearing her speech she started running and said, "OKAY! RUNNING!" And off she went.

HP: 30 - 0 = 30/30
Distance: 14/80.

Well this was nice. Running wasn't so bad. She did it every morning after all. Danny was grateful that she was in shape, and that this exam seemed tailored to her needs.

Well not all of her needs. That water trap on the side of the path really unnerved her. She could fall in at any moment and just be knocked out instantly. Definitely had to watch out for that.

Somewhere ahead of her was Julian. Just how fast was that kid? He had wings, maybe he was using those?

Danny flapped her little wings. Nope, still useless.
