what do you think this poem means?
The Arrow and the Song
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

I think it could represents the search to find a true friend. And the arrow is like symbolic of the search for a true friend. Because you can try to find one everywhere, but you never know where you will find one. And so you have to keep trying and searching until, eventually you find where you're quest for the "arrow" ends and you find your true friend.
But perhaps, it could also be about negative energy and hurtful acts. And every time we do something wrong or hurtful, it goes out into the world and causes someone pain. But, we don't know who it will hurt or really care because they are not tied to our lives and we don't know them, until one day we find that our action didn't hurt a stranger, but a friend. And they have been in pain for a long time, but it took awhile for us to realize that they are in pain, and haven't healed from it. |

The Iliaddict I thought I saw what you did there. But then I took an arrow to the knee. Death_354 No lie, I thought this was gonna be a fancy way to make an arrow to the knee joke. xD
