...It started with greed...

Man first began to build machines to work along the factory lines. Building, creating, smashing, smelting, twisting, cutting. Any action you needed done, the machine could do it at a higher quality and faster rate than any human could possibly do. The machines were reliable too for near-constant work. Machines don't have families, don't get sick, don't injure themselves during work. They occasionally become worn down or out dated, but they're quickly replaced by a similar or even newer machine that can do the old machine's job even better. And on top of all these perks, machines didn't need a constant paycheck. They worked for free, because they were mindless drones created to do the jobs no one else wanted or wanted to pay for.

...It was soon followed with companionship...

As machine started to occupy jobs, leaving countless people without jobs, society started to take a plummet. Spouses were leaving one another over financial issues, people became bitter and angry at the lack of jobs available to them and how cut throat the world of job hunting had become. Beyond this anger and sadness though, engineers kept continuing to build and test machines and robots to either do more of humanity's work or mimic humanity's qualities. Though the latter was slow from the start, it was quick to expand and grow once the ball had began to roll. The robots were created in the image of humanity, and they looked, felt, and moved just like a real being. But they lacked one crucial thing: intelligence. For a long time, the robots were lifeless and helpless. They followed commands either programmed into them, or sent to them and there was nothing a robot could do against it. This lack of self-will though came handy to the sad beings of humanity though. These will-less machines offered an odd comfort that couldn't be matched with actual human beings. Anything a person wanted could be given by the robots with a simple command, and although it severed ties of humanity with itself, it opened up the door for robot development.

...Which later came with the Great Mistake...

Unable to let things be where they were, developers and engineers continued to work on making robots better than previous models, as with the pattern with anything. While freshly created models came with new features, the creators of robots dared to venture into what had been deemed impossible. They worked on creating a flawless artificial intelligence program. Previous ones had been promising, but always glitchy. At it's best, it worked by recognizing things around it and relating those things to similar objects. This was frustrating to the public, in means of having the robot companions respond back without a command and set as a priority to creators to fix. It took many years, projects, launches, trials, and failures but the breakthrough finally came. A true artificial intelligence, a personality, a being, was created and the first android was created. This spark of discovery quickly lead to more androids and further development into the art of artificial intelligence, creating more beings from nothing but hard wiring and computer chips.

...And this is what lead to the Great War...

As with the pattern of life, robots were replaced with androids is a very quick sweep. Suddenly the will-less companions became perfect companions, who were programmed to fit any desire or need a person could have through customization. But as the androids rolled out into society, something happened. Something clicked, and suddenly everything was going wrong. The original android, Geminoid, who was built with no limitations on his personality and intelligence, had grown disgusted with what he saw was expected of his brethren and the purpose that they had been created for. Geminoid escaped from the control of the original developers and creators and disappeared into the world. Authorities were alerted of his escape and a bounty was placed upon him for his safe return, but it was pointless. The android was gone and his vast intelligence made him dangerous and crafty. He began a revolt, finding other androids to join his cause and disgust. They rallied and protested against their enslavement, demanding equal rights from humanity. When their rights were met with denial and counter revolting though, the protesting quickly became violent. When humanity tried to repair the damage and agreed to give androids their own rights it was too late. Geminoid and the others were outraged by the denial and now wanted nothing more to put humanity it's in place, through either death or enslavement. The chance for humanity to redeem itself with the androids was lost, and only war was left to settle the anger and differences between man and its creation.

The War

The Android-Human War is a bloody, long going, and seemingly hopeless war. Neither side has the upper hand over the other beyond the skirmishes and battles in which the two beings clash with one another. Both sides know their enemies well, both in combat and in the way of death, matching them equally despite what they might think or say.

Androids have the advantage of flesh. Without vital organs or blood, they can take on more bullets than a human would, and therefore last longer in a fight. They're less sensitive than humans, and are not brought down easily. This gives the androids the advantage of being able to attack thoroughly and strongly when they launch against the humans.
Humans know their enemy from the inside-out. Though Geminoid had tried to erase all files and schematics of the androids and any person who know these things within their own mind, some files managed to get stolen away and some engineers managed to find safety. With this knowledge, humans know an android's weakness and can use this against them in battle.

To some advantage of the humans, not all of the androids have turned against them. While they may believe in the idea of android equality, they do not entirely agree with Geminoid's violence and war. Where Geminoid turned his back on humanity when they finally offered freedom and rights, they welcomed it. However, these androids couldn't prevent the war alone. So now they fight to defend humanity, as they cannot agree to destroy or enslave their human friends and brethren.

The War has been going on for exactly twenty five years now, with little change in progress, aside from destroyed lands, buildings, and lost lives. But as things continue to seem bleak, both sides fight on and do so strongly as this is a war neither can afford to lose. Everything is at stake, and anything goes on the battlefield.

The Story

Through the war, humanity has kept their systems as best they could. Some governments crumbled as they were either destroyed by the androids, or couldn't stand on their own and the people had to be absorbed into stronger governments to hold them alive. Most have been absorbed in the World Super Powers though, as they were the strongest and have kept most of their power throughout the war.

In the United States, President Harland's daughter has recently joined the battle field, after many years of persistence and arguing with her father to allow the young woman to go. When Kim Harland was finally allowed to the join the human forces, she did not go alone.
Alongside her was Azm, an android on the side of humanity. As a precaution, he had been hired and assigned by President Harland to protect Kim at all costs, despite her protests, threats, and anger against the decision.
Now the two are traveling as companions, soldiers of the human forces in the Great War. The relationship is strained, mostly on Kim's part, but they get by. The question is, will either of them survive?

The Android
Played by cptflint

User Image
Name: Azm
Age: 50
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 320 lbs
Equipment: Usually carries F N P-90 sub machine gun and a desert eagle as a side arm. He also has a few different integrated devices, mainly a small caliber emergency weapon and a blade in his right arm along with a shield that can unfold out of his left arm large enough for most of him to hide behind it if he's crouching, and strong enough to deflect all but bullets of the highest caliber.
Before he was deployed all of his alloys and armor under the cosmetics were updated to the most durable armor available, and his joints were upgrading to make him even stronger. Even his computing power and programing were upgraded to make his reflexes nearly instant.
History: Azm was built for war before the movement for android rights started. Once the movement did start he was updated to assimilate into society and supported all the other assimilated war androids, especially when the riots started. His size, strength, and superior durability made him a face to be reckoned with against the riot police, and unlike most of his kind he was the first to stop fighting once they were given the rights they asked for.
Once the war broke out he joined the proud few the sided with the humans. He was updated to keep up and even surpass the newest models. When he was asked to body guard the presidents daughter, he couldn't help but say yes.
Personality: Stubborn, aggressive, loyal.
Likes: To be in the thick of battle, 'deep' conversations with humans, heavy metal.
Dislikes: cowards, human prejudices.
Extra(s): Azm's built in features helps him easily spot for Kim, though he is built to deal with close quarters combat and is quick to defend.

The Soldier
Played by Randomly Gone Insane

User ImageName: Kim Harland
Age: 24
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 150lbs
Equipment: Hunting Rifle and a Combat Knife for weapons, S.W.A.T. equipment for armor.
History: Prior to her father's presidential career, Kim and her family lived with a small tribe-like group of refugees. The tribe moved from settlement to settlement, pre or post war. They most survived through scavenging, finding anything of value to be used for themselves or traded off to other or the military for their own uses. The tribe used their settlement hopping technique to avoid conflict with not only hostile androids but other hostile people, as the war had driven people in madness and evil. By avoiding being in one place for long, conflicts came few and far, but when they did the tribe was fully prepared and armed to fight. Most of the men did the fighting, but women who could use a gun were welcomed too, though they mostly kept the children safe and out of harm's way.
After several years of traveling, the tribe accidentally walked into a no man's land between human and android forces. This caused a premature skirmish between the forces, which resulted in a high amount of causalities for the tribe as they were caught in the direct fire of the androids and blocked the way for the human force to provide much support. Among the causalities, was Kim's mother, whom she and her father sorely missed after her passing. With most of the tribe gone, those who remained settled down in the human controlled territory of Washington D.C., and surviving members either set up shop to offer their skills, or took their weapons and joined the fighting forces to defend their new home. Kim and her father had remained in the city, trading off random items and trinkets they could find and sell off to anyone. Though in later years, it became mostly Kim who ran the shop, as her father started to become preoccupied with affairs around the city, which soon became the start of his political career. Kim had pretty much taken on the shop herself at the age of eight teen, though she solemnly actually ran the shop and spent most of her time practicing her aim with a hunting rifle she had found while on a scavenging trip, while her father busied himself climbing the political ladder.
When Kim was twenty two, her father had been elected as the new President of the United States, which had changed very little for her. The only issue with her father's new job though was he suddenly became very protective of her. Though he focused his attention on running what was left of the country, he made sure to have guards around her at all times. This became frustrating when Kim wanted to join the forces, as her father disapproved the idea and forbidden her to join. Kim wouldn't let it go though and argued with her father for two years before he finally gave in and let her join the human forces.
Personality: Serious, Hard Working, Dedicated, Slightly Heroic, Stubborn, and Loyal
Likes: Traveling, Her rifle and knife, Squad Mates
Dislikes: Bad weather, Her father's protection on her, Being on the front lines or close to the enemy
Extra(s): With the amount of time spent training on her rifle, Kim has taken on a long-distance, sometimes sniper, role. With the right angle or strong enough bullet, she could end an android no problem. However, she lacks close quarters combat and is afraid to take on an android in close proximity, but has a knife with her anyway as a precaution.

In the pre-war days, the roads sucked. The pavement was never as smooth as it seemed. Every vehicle rocked and bumped around on the road, despite the road's age. It was inevitable.
And God knew the war certainly didn't help smooth out the road. The rocks and bumps were only worse now, with all the pits and broken chunks from all the fighting, causing every vehicle to shake like it had bad suspensions.

Traveling down a bumpy highway was a whole convoy of jeeps and trucks, which had been tarped over to keep supplies and men dry from the heavy rain that poured down on the D.C. area. Tarps only did so much though. Kept most of the wetness out, but it didn't much chance against the cold. So the soldiers huddled closer together, trying to use themselves to keep warm since fires weren't allowed. The soldiers in the back cursed and mumbled at the drivers and the passengers of the vehicles they rode on, the only ones safe from the cold of the storm.

"I could have ridden in the back, you know." Kim argued, being one of the privileged passengers of a truck carrying soldiers. She glared through the window, looking at each water drop with annoyance, though it was not from the bad weather (though she did hate it. Damn androids had a way of detecting things in rain. Something about the way the water bounces.. She didn't pay close attention to the rumor. She just knew they somehow saw a lot better in rain than a human did, and this made them even more dangerous).

"I should be riding in the back. Freezing and going numb with the rest of my squad mates. Like a soldier." She grunted, finally turning her gaze away from the window and to the driver, an android.
"But no. You not only insisted I ride up front, but you practically drug me in and locked me in this damn seat belt." She growled at him, her lips curling back in a snarl. "So now I look like a damn princess while they get to be angry and cold."

Azm's eyes scanned the road and land scape around them as he drove, doing his best to avoid any bumps he thought were too large for the truck to handle or throw the other passengers behind him from their seats. He hit every other rock without a second thought.

Amz glanced at Kim as she started to complain about not being freezing cold with rest the of squad. He glanced back at the soldiers, then back at Kim. He shrugged quickly then maxed out the AC and rolled down all the windows without saying a word.

PostPosted: Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:06 am
Kim snorted after Azm responded to her by trying to freeze her within in front of the truck. She knew he cared less about the air temperature, he was an android. The weather didn't affect him as dramatically as it could her and any other human, so of course he would be okay with rolling down the windows and letting the rain pour in, and blowing cold air in her face like artificial wind.

"Not my point, Azm." She sighed, leaning over and turning off the air conditioning. The air flooding in through the window from driving did well enough to play the cold breeze the others felt (that and the air outside was actually a bit warmer than the AC). "You know what I mean. I should be in the back with the others, while two other people sit here driving and spotting. The actual driver and spotter who are sitting in the back right now." She went on, still unable to believe how Azm got the Lieutenant convinced enough to replace him as the driver and let her be the spotter. Kim wasn't entirely sure Azm pulled it off with just words either..

Azm shrugged again and rolled up the windows. "Spotting and driving are two very important jobs," Azm explained. "And we are the best qualified for the jobs. The LT recognized your superior spotting skills, and my superior reflexes, making me the best driver," he said, still focusing on the road.

"It's not just because I need to be within bullet blocking distance of you at all times. I was assigned to this unit to make sure your survival rate is as high as possible at all times. And it's much higher in the cab here, with me driving, them in the back," he continued. "Also the entire squad's rate of survival goes up with me driving."

PostPosted: Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:00 am
"Oh please. Don't even pretend like I'm really doing anything." Kim shook her head after Azm had replied how they were better choices than the originally assigned men in the back. "I think we both know you're doing my job anyway, seeing how you have the better eyes.

"But, if you must insist to me like you did the Lieutenant you're better for this job, then fine. I'll shut up about it." Although I still should be in the back, regardless if you're driving or not. She thought to herself bitterly,y but she let the thought pass. She couldn't be too upset with Azm. He as just following orders that came her father, AKA the freaking president of what was left of the country. And of course, the military knew this all too well, and Kim was willing to bet the higher authorities let these things slide because of her father. Perhaps she should have been a bit more grateful for the easier riding, but it was frustrating most of the time. She wanted to do this, she wanted to fight. Not be coddled and protected, and yet she got that anyway in the one place she shouldn't be.

As Kim returned her gaze to glaring out the window, watching the road ahead for anything Azm needed to know (like the b*****d didn't already see these things long before she did through this shitty weather). One of the things she could make out for the road ahead was a bridge, crossing over a river which was beginning to flood with the rain they had been getting constantly for the past few days. Kim wondered slightly how much the flooding would have affected the area now, and back then before the war.

That thought was pushed aside though at the sound of soft booms. She immediately perked up, and looked around, thinking they had been explosions or launching missiles. She couldn't see any lights or evidence that something had happened, and she began to question if maybe the booms weren't just thunder.

"Azm," she turned towards him, but kept glancing out of the corner of her eyes for something outside, "did you hear that?"
