User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.In the year 932, demons escaped from the Underworld to wreak havoc on Earth. They attacked innocents, burned towns, and were just plain mean in general. The manor of Lord Harold de Trapp was hit particularly hardly. His daughter, the outspoken, rebellious Lady Jemima, decided to take matters into her own hands. She began gathering Elementals and Mentals with great skill to help her vanquish them. She had great difficulty with this, though. When she finally had enough people, she began fighting back. After a few years, she realized that while there were many Elementals and Mentals, but most had little to no training. So she appointed a general to attack the demons and started working on an academy to fix this.
After twenty hard years, the demons returned to the Underworld. But Lady Jemima's Academy for the Elementals and Mentals remained open, just in case the demons ever came.
Now in 1853, rumors of resurfacing demons are floating around...

So, is the word 'Huh?' currently floating around your head? If it is, here are some handy little pointers.

*This is a fantasy roleplay. It takes place in 1853. Why? Because medieval is overdone and I don't really like when demons use GPS and witches use the witches' forum online to order potion ingredients. If you got me, great. If not, just go to the next pointer.

*Lady Jemima's teaches Elementals and Mentals. Lady Jemima's does not teach witches, vampires, werewolves, pixies, succubi, elves, naiads, or any other oddity of the sort.

*Okay, so we don't teach those, but what exactly do we teach? Elementals and Mentals. See the next pointers because I decided I need an excuse to use more asterisks.

*Elementals are people who can manipulate the elements. More precisely, one element. A Fire Elemental cannot manipulate air...

*There are numerous available elements. The traditional core elements - water, earth, fire, and air. Then we have plants, lightning, ice, light(though I could never see what you could do with that other than blind someone), metal...

*Onto Mentals. Their class is a little more complicated. They manipulate the mind. I hear you going 'huh'. That's what the next asterisk is for.

*A Mental can read minds, control minds, bend minds, create illusions...But please. Not all of those in one person, please. Mary Sue was once a student in these hallowed halls. She was expelled for flamboyantly long, multicolored hair and using fire to create an illusion while bewitching a student.

*Anything else necessary will be placed on this page in red. I wrote red in red in case you were unfamiliar with the namings of colors. I am debating deleting that sentence. And this one. And this one. And this one. This is fun!

*Ooh! One more pointer! Seriousness is for losers. Lalalalalalalalalalalalalala

Rules. The dreaded rules. Unfortunately, they are necessary. Remember, rules are not made to be broken.

1.Use common sense. Alas, it isn't so common.
2. I am the demigoddess of this roleplay. That is the only godmoding allowed.
3. No powerplaying, being a Mary Sue, or being a bad roleplayer in general. No one will like you.
4. Keep one liners to a minimum. Keep novellas to a minimum.
5. Follow canon AKA all of the intro posts.
New rules will be added in red.

ACCEPTED ELEMENTALS
Name: Adrian Williams.
Sex: Male.
Age: 18.
Personality: A bit mouthy at times, as well as very blunt, Adrian is somewhat confrontational with people who begin to push his buttons. While not the sharpest tool in the shed, he more inclined to common sense than book smarts.
Appearance: User Image
Elemental or Mental? Elemental.
Power: Lightning; Generates an electrical charge in his body which he can
History: Adrian hails from America, and comes from a lower-class family, and therefore grew up with less-than posh mannerisms..Not to say he was a thug back home, he was certainly not one to be walked over. As he grew older, he caused more than a few accidents through inexplainable means, such as people getting shocked near metal or water, or wooden structures suddenly catching fire. No one assumed he has anything to do with it fortunately, but it was a perfect time when a letter came from Jemima and her Academy. He received his letter only one year ago, and has been at the Academy ever sense.
Dorm Choice: B-2.
Mary Sue Litmus Test: 3.
Randomness!:He tends to be very curious, even to a fault.

Name:Alena Reed
Sex: Female
Age:14
Personality: Alena is a naive and carefree girl but still very cautious because of her inability to see. She's normally very happy but when mad, she explodes like a tornado.
Appearance:User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Elemental or Mental? Elemental
Power: Air, she can manipulate the air and it's also how she "sees"
History:Alena was born blind; however, she was also born with the ability to use the air around her for her own purposes. It wasn't until she was around 6 or 7 that she learned that she could use the air as another set of "eyes." Her parents were middle class but wanted her to hone her abillity so they saved enough money and sent Alena to the academy.
Dorm Choice: A1
Mary Sue Litmus Test: 6
Randomness!:She loves all types of sweets but doesn't want to be fat so always holds herself back.

Name:{Sarabeth Quinn Markez}
Sex:{Female}
Age:{17}
Personality:{She has a kind of know-it-all attitude which gets her in a lot of bad situations. She's stubborn as a mule and once she has her mind set on something there is no way on earth you are going to change her mind. She also had an explosive temper so you don't want to make her mad. Other than that she is a very sarcastic, annoying kind of person. But if you are her friend she will stick by your side no matter what.}
Appearance:User Image
Elemental or Mental?{Elemental}
Power:{Fire}
History: {She came from a very wealthy family. They gave her everything she wanted and treated her like she was royalty. But they only did that because they knew when she got old enough they would have to send her to this school. Now that she's been sent here she hates her parents for doing this to her. In her eyes it's like all that they did for those years was for nothing. They just did it so that she wouldn't hate them when they did send her away but it did the exact opposite.}
Dorm Choice A2
Mary Sue Litmus Test:3

Name: Dojime Merenich
Sex: Male
Age: 17
Personality: Outgoing and friendly with mostly everyone. Very level headed and calm. Rarely ever gets angry without good reason, but when he does his wrath is brutal and swift.
Appearance:
User Image
Elemental or Mental? Elemental
Power: Earth, can use the rock and stone around him, shaping it to his will. The stronger, more dense metals are harder to shape, but can also be manipulated given enough time.
History: Dojime spent most of his childhood in France. His parents eventually found out his abilities the hard way with the collapse of a hotel that had been in their family for years. They thankfully had enough money saved up to rebuild and sent Dojime off Jamima's academy to learn to control his powers. He's been in the academy since he was 13 and has made a lot of progress since, but occasionally accidents still happen.
Dorm Choice: B1
Mary Sue Litmus Test: 9
Randomness!:Dojime is responsible for many structural accidents and repairs around the school's stone and brick built areas since his stay at the academy.

Name: Bathsheba Smith
Sex: Female
Age: 17
Personality: Out going and loud mouthed, Bathsheba is notorious on being bluntly and brutally honest when discussing subjects or sharing her opinion. While she has matured enough over the years to exercise some self-censorship (especially when speaking with authority figures), she's still not quite perfect. If angered enough, she'll flat out say what's on her mind regardless of who she's speaking to.
Appearance: Bathsheba
Elemental or Mental? Elemental
Power: Fire; Passion feeds and drives her power. The need and desire to accomplish something helps keep Bathsheba's power strong. However, too much passion will sometimes cause her to lose some control.
History: Bathsheba and Clayton were born as twin brother and sister in to the privileged life of a business man. Their father owned and ran a steel mill in Pittsburgh, which produced it's own healthy profit, and would later be bought out for a large sum, leaving the family sitting comfortably in a pool of wealth. Neither one of the children properly learned anything about hard work or sacrifice, leaving them a bit spoiled in comparison to others.
Just how Clayton was taught how to be a proper gentleman, Bathsheba learned how to be a proper lady. However, she resented her lessons a bit. She didn't mind being a lady (it was in fact, all she knew), but she did mind how easily her brother skated away from trouble. He often indulged in disgraceful behavior, and in comparison to how she was treated when she misbehaved, Clayton received slaps on his wrists. She grew furious with the unfairness, and her anger grew slowly but steadily as she watched her brother get off with nothing for his bad behavior. One night when Clayton was sneaking back inside after dark, Bathsheba confronted her brother and two got into an argument about his behavior. The argument lead to no where as Clayton refused to acknowledge what he did was wrong, unfair, or even share how he got away with his bad behavior. In a moment of fury, Bathsheba was suddenly engulfed in fire that nearly swallowed up Clayton. Both were startled by the sudden fire, as it left as quickly as it came. After leaving the area and playing dumb to singe marks left behind, Bathsheba fearfully realized that she had made the fire. Her brother realized this at the same time, and finally shared that when he claimed he was hearing voices he was simply mistaken, and could actually read the minds of others.
Shortly after the twins realized their power, two identical letters were sent to her and Clayton with an invitation to Lady Jemima's Academy.
Dorm Choice: A-3
Mary Sue Litmus Test: 5
Randomness!:

ACCEPTED MENTALS
Name: Vivian Rosewood, but please call me Vivi!
Sex: Female
Age: 14
Personality: She's happy-go-lucky, cheerful, and probably never had a bad thought in her life. She doesn't see good and bad, she sees good and slightly less good. This can lead to issues of serial killers being 'confused' in her mind. She babbles, laughs, giggles, and doesn't take many things seriously. She's a great friend and will look out for her own. She has little prejudice against Elementals, simply thinking that they are too violent for her.
Appearance:User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Elemental or Mental? Mental
Power: Illusionist. She can make people see, hear, touch, taste, and smell things that aren't real. With her around, it's hard to tell what's real and what isn't. If she would want to create a warrior to attack someone, the person would feel the sword cut them, but there would be no damage. But Vivi wouldn't do such a thing. If you eat illusion food, you aren't full afterward.
History: Vivi was born to a middle class family in London. She went to school, acted like a proper lady, and was a good girl in general. She loved to put on plays with her friends, especially since she made them so realistic. Her friends found this normal until they grew to the age where these things aren't accepted anymore. Lady Jemima's sent her a letter and she went there. This will be her third year.
Dorm Choice: A1
Mary Sue Litmus Test: I'm not in the mood now...
Randomness!: Vivi loves kittens, butterflies, rainbows, candy...

Name: Avery Chant
Sex: Male
Age: 18
Personality: Avery is usually quiet. Not shy, quiet. He doesn't speak unless he has to, and when he does it's in crisp, perfect, polite sentences that could have been plucked from an etiquette handbook. He tends to appear rather emotionless, but that isn't how it's like inside. He doesn't get angry, he holds grudges. He considers most people below him.
Appearance: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Elemental or Mental? Mental
Power: Mind control. Wait! This isn't so Mary Sue. The power is mostly in his voice, but slightly in his eyes. It works best with eye contact. Even then, it is always possible to resist. Okay, not for the common human off the street, but an Elemental or Mental can definitely resist. The bigger the thing he tells you to do, the easier to resist. In short, it's a lot easier to command a random boy to bake him cookies than to command his roommate to kill himself.
History: Avery was born to a wealthy family living in their nice, huge house. He was given schooling, servants, toys...his heart's desires and whims. When he was eleven, he began ordering the servants around and they would do whatever he asked for, right away. This wasn't considered too odd, though. They were servants. When he told his least favorite maid to jump in a lake and she drowned, his parents realized that there was something very, very wrong with their darling Avery. They got the letter and sent him to Lady Jemima's.
Dorm Choice: B2
Mary Sue Litmus Test: 6
Randomness!:

Name: Clayton Smith
Sex: Male
Age: 17
Personality: Flirty with the ladies, suspicious and aggressive towards men, if they're moving in close to Bathsheba. Otherwise, laid back and friendly to his fellow males.
Appearance: Clayton
Elemental or Mental? Mental
Power: Clayton can read the minds of people that he can see. In some instances, if he's trying to read someone who he is familiar with, either as a friend or he has peeked inside their mind too much, he can tap into their mind from another room. However, non-sight connections are generally weaker and can be easily severed through mental exhaustion or movement on the other person's part.
As Clayton grew up, he started to veer away from what acceptable for his 'breed'. Rather than being a constant proper gentleman, he would gamble his allowance away, in bets he organized against other young men to cheat them out of their money, or (in his favorite way if he could slip in) on brawls held between the older men after work hours. Sometimes though, Clayton would be caught in a fight, either with the boys he suckered or getting caught by brawl runners. Despite whether or not he lost, he always had a few battle wounds to take home. Covering up wounds was hard, and he was easily busted by his parents who disapproved of his gambling and fighting. In order to prevent him from continuing the habits, his parents started to enforce a curfew on him, which was observed by the servants of the house who were charged with keeping an eye on Clayton.
When he was fifteen, Clayton started hearing voices within his head. He was at first very alarmed and frightened, and went to his parents for help. They dismissed him and told Clayton to stop making up nonsense. But the voices continued, and Clayton kept quiet and to himself, worried about the voices he heard in his head. After a few days he realized he recognized the voices he heard, as they belonged to the people in and around his house. Curious as to why he heard his family and servants, Clayton started to toy around and experiment with what he heard to what went on in reality. After watching in on acts which were thought to be secret, Clayton came to realize he wasn't hearing voices but reading minds. Now armed with the ability to tap into people's darkest secrets, Clayton took advantage of his gift and black mailed his servants into lying about his curfew, once again giving him the freedom to wander around outside.
A few weeks ago, after he and his sister both came to realize the gifts they shared, two identical letters were sent to the siblings with an invitation to Lady Jemima's Academy.

Vivi smiled as she skipped up the steps into Lady Jemima's. It was great to be back. Great to be where she was free to practice her illusions without coming up with elaborate explanations as to how a gigantic singing rainbow appeared in her front yard. Her suitcases swinging around in her hands, she strolled through the castle, a faint smell of freshly baked cookies followed her around. It wasn't something difficult to keep up, just something small and sweet.
She reached A1, her dorm for the year. Lady Jemima's changed the dorms every year. Vivi liked this because it allowed her to get to know a different Elemental just a bit better. She put her bags down for a second, opened the door, and then brought them inside. She sat down on her bed, not wanting to unpack yet.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2012 8:43 pm
Alena had just gotten to the steps of the school. She was followed by her parents who were fussing about being careful and not to get too close to people and to concentrate on her studies. If she could roll her eyes she would have. "Mom, Dad, I'll be fiiiine," she said, taking the bags from them, "I can see the school perfectly fine and I know the stairs are right in front of me, so don't worry about me. Go home and take care of your jobs like always okay?" She kissed them both on the cheek before heading up the stairs.
When she got up to the school, she spread the air out a bit further then normal to "see" which way to go. She did smell something sweet and she wanted to follow it; however, she kept herself from unintentionally following it, yet it seems like the smell was coming from the same direction as her dorm.
When she got to the dorms, she had to feel the numbers on the doors. The air helps but it's not always perfect in seeing. She finally got to her door and knocked to see if her roommate was in.

The B-2 dorm was quiet, as Adrian was nowhere to be found near it, even though most of his belongings were inside. This would explain why nothing was amiss in that location...

Instead, he was tinkering inside a broken-down Internal-Combustion Engine.
"Can't believe how quickly this thing keeled over....Only been around for a YEAR at most..." he grumbled to himself, attempting to fix it with the tools he had brought. It was a perk with what his job had been back in the States.

A growl came from inside the engine.
"Stupid piece of scrap metal.....Can't even work properly after just a few tests!" he barked, electricity from his body hitting the contraption, causing it to suddnly start up.
"OH SH-" he was stopped as a cloud of black smog shot out from where he was.

After a few moments, Adrian crawled out from the engine and laid down on the ground, staring at the sky and coughing once, a black plume escaping is mouth.
"It's fiiiixed....." he groaned.

"Come in!" Vivi called. Maybe this was her new roommate. She wondered what she was like. I hope she's nice. Last year, the roommate wasn't so nice. Actually, last year's roommate had been absolutely, positively nasty. But that wasn't exactly something that Vivi would say or think about her.
She looked at her suitcases and then at the closet. Maybe she should be unpacking now...She opened the first one and took out a few pink, lacy dresses which she hung up in her closet. Then she took out a few similar blouses and placed them neatly on a shelf.

Sarabeth walked through the halls dragging her bags behind her. The least her parents could've done was help her take her things up to her dorm! But no they had other more important matters to attend to. At least that's what they told Sarabeth before they dumped her here. Is anything more important than you're only daughter? Apparently there is much more important things to do than say a proper good bye. Sara couldn't help but rant in her mind about this. She finally found her room and let out a huge sigh of relief. She opened the door noticing that no one was in there yet. I must have gotten here before my roommate.....If I have a roommate. She sighed again, not really caring about her last thought, and set her bags down. They hit the floor with a very loud thud. Sarabeth than began the painstaking task of unpacking all of her things.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 03, 2012 5:41 pm
Alena opened the door, using the air in the room to see. She lightly set down her bags and turned towards the person in the room. "Hello, my name is Alena Reed," she did a small curtsey, "and I'll be your roommate this year. It's very nice to meet you." Alena smiled at her new roommate.

Adrian gave a sigh, making his way to his dorm and wiping his face with a washcloth. He could at least say he fixed the engine...If not in the worst way to him possible.
"Gonna smell exhaust in my nose until my hair goes GRAY..."

He opened the door to his dorm and looked around.
"Huh. Still no one here." he said to himself.
"Gonna be weird if I'm the only guy here..."
