 Quen made sure he'd memorized the entire Chunin section of the grass scroll before sitting down and crossing his legs. He slowed his breathing as he began to meditate. It came slowly, but Quen felt the energy of the tree swirling around him. It began to flow through him. Quen opened his eyes. It worked! Just like before, he was in what looked like an exact replica of the Takigakure training grounds. The only difference was that the sky was an iridescent purple. He'd slipped into a training ground within his mind.
Not wanting to waste any time, he started with the first grass technique. He imagined an enemy, and in the distance, a figure materialized out of nowhere. A useful feature of his internal training ground. He went through the hand signs quickly. "Kusa Kusari no Jutsu!" A single grass chain shot from the ground and bound the enemy's wrist. It quickly vanished so that Quen could try again. [1/4] He made sure he was doing the hand signs correctly, slowing himself just a bit. This time, one chain got the enemy's wrist while the other got his ankle. Not quite what he was looking for.[2/4] He tried again. This time had more promising results. Four chains sprouted and entwined the enemy. He was sure, given that they were grass, that the jutsu called for more than one chain per limb.[3/4] He tried once more. The result was impressive. 16 chains shot from the ground and bound the opponent with alarming speed.[4/4]
The next was quite a frightening technique: Kusaton: Mousai no Jutsu. He cringed at the thought of being buried. He was sure it'd come in handy. He conjured a few seeds and a new enemy. Infusing his chakra into the seed, he pushed it into the ground. The seed didn't burst as he'd intended.[1/4] He tried a second time. The seed burst, but the roots quickly died before they could go towards the opponent.[2/4] The third time, the roots made it to the opponent. They shot from the ground and entwined him. But when they began to pull, they snapped, too weak to bury the victim.[3/4] He tried once more. The roots shot through the ground at the opponent before rearing up from the soil. They wrapped around whatever they could grasp and began pulling him underground.[4/4]
The third technique was a little more to his liking. A grass sword. He placed his hand on the grass and began flowing his chakra. "Kusa no Yaiba!" The grass blades formed a sword, but before he could pick it up, they fell apart again.[1/4] He repeated the technique. The grass blades stuck together. But when he swung it, the blade fell in half.[2/4] He tried a third time and this blade seemed decent. He conjured an enemy to test it on. The blade hit, but didn't seem to cut anything.[3/4] He tried again, putting more chakra into the grass. He quickly swung at the enemy. It cut clean through.[4/4]
The grass instantaneous body skill was probably the most useful in Quen's opinion. He flipped through the handsigns. "Kusa Shunshin no Jutsu!" He sank into the grass for a moment, but wasn't able to merge himself with it.[1/4] He tried again, attempting to merge his chakra with the grass blades around him. Nothing happened.[2/4] He tried again, clearing his mind. He felt a great rush. When he opened his eyes, he'd traveled far from his starting point. He'd just forgotten to pick a location.[3/4] He tried again, imagining the place he'd started. He felt it out with his chakra. There was the rush once more and Quen opened his eyes. It worked![4/4]
He was greatful for finding this place. He didn't seem to have any fatigue or weariness from training. The next jutsu was more of a convenience than an advantage. He placed his hand on the grass again. "Kusa Nori no Jutsu!" A grass blade wiggled, but didn't do anything. [1/4] He tried more chakra. Unfortunately, he wasn't controlling it too much. The grass blade just fell in half.[2/4] He tried again. This time, the grass blade grew, but it was a little too small. He wasn't going to ride something the size of a plate.[3/4] The last one was more satisfying. It was the size of a surfboard. He could easily sit or stand on it for whatever purpose.[4/4]
There was one more grass technique he wanted to learn. He picked up a blade of grass and made an opponent. "Kusa Sogekihei Hitokiri!"The grass blade didn't make it very far.[1/4] He tried again. This time it shot very far, but was way off target. He needed more aim.[2/4] The third time, he hit the enemy. The opponent didn't so much as flinch in pain. The grass didn't seem very effective if there wasn't a vital organ involved.[3/4] He tried again. This time, the grass went through the opponent's heart. The enemy fell to the ground in a heap.[4/4]
