I know it is not exactly what you are looking for, but there is always Skype calls (or something similar) - where you actually get to see the other person. It is a bit more like actually being with someone then just text.

I wish I could fly everyone to one central location to meet in person, I think that would be really fun (all though expensive).

Don't we all wish that would happen. Sadly Skypeing or texting is all ready is something that is not enough for me but I know there's nothing better
