Click to show. The city of Chicago has more crime than it knows what to do with, but there are a few who try and are honest and do not take bribes, but they are few and far between, with a system of 'justice' as corrupt as Chicago's an honest cop has to work ten times as hard. Here in the police head quarters however the honest cop and the ones on the take work side by side every day the trick is knowing which is which.

Once she had checked in, and her desk was set up nicely she made her way to the file room. Her purpose was three fold, on one hand she needed to file the records she had retyped into their proper place. The other was to pull the file of one Mr. Brain Tate who took arrested a German who was drunk as a fish at her apartment last night, the last was to see if that German made it to the precinct and was actually booked on charges including: public intoxication, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a fire, and breaking and entering.
Sheila was not all that surprised to find her late night visitor had not been booked, but she did manage to find Mr. Tate's file. Which from a cursory glance promised to be an interesting read.

Agent White quietly entered the precinct, briefcase in hand and a gunny sack on his back. While his civilian clothing wasn't near as crisp as his dress blues, he still managed to wear a three-piece suit with military bearing. Taking note of the pretty young receptionist, White made a beeline for her desk.
"Good Morning, Ma'am. I hate to distract a hard worker from her duties, but have you a desk sergeant locked away in here? I'm from the Agency to help with the current...difficulites."
White had been standing at attention out of strict habit while speaking.
He noticed this halfway through his introduction, and relaxed self-consciously.

"No sir we have no one currently in lock down. not even a desk sergeant." Sheila said jokingly. "I am all the gatekeeper at the moment but I will gladly direct you to one of the other officers to help you get set up. We could use all the help we can get." she said honestly as she rang a buzzer to call in one of the boys from homicide. "Would you like to have a seat, I can get you a cup of coffee while we wait." She said sweetly putting up a good front he would have his teeth kicked in quick enough by some of the others.

Days in the office were always long, it never mattered how much bad news, or how bad the weather was. The days were always long. I was letting myself get away for a bit with a coffee break when the buzzer rang. Maybe a witness to something has walked in the station, or a snitch looking for a payout. On my way out already, I might as well make the detour and pay the front desk a visit. Walking in I saw a clean guy looking as if he were going to move into the place. A new soul in this town? May it have mercy on him. "Hey there Sheila, how can I help?"

Sheila knew it was almost time for Hartman to head home, so she was a little surprised that he was the one who answered. "It looks like Uncle Sam has sent us reinforcements for our little war." Sheila answered as she got up from her desk and opened the gate to let the man into the rear of the police station.

Agent White
The receptionist was quite the professional.
White was glad for that. After the war, almost everything in the civilian world seemed so...untidy.
"Thank you, ma'am. I'm sure the boys will love having an Agency stiff poking his nose in their business. Tell them to stand easy, if you would."
White took the cup of coffee and bolted it down without waiting for it to cool. Years of piss-poor coffee brewed through gauze in the trenches served at middling cold got White to appreciate every scalding degree of a fresh pot.
Walking to the back of the station, White caught sight of a sturdy man walking from his desk to greet the receptionist.
White altered course and raised a hello.
"Good afternoon, sir. Agent Silas White at your service. Here to lend a gun to the fight, as it were. No worries about credit thievery here. Some agents like to play the big shot, but I find the lowest profile is least likely to get shot at."

This new guy seemed tightly buttoned, crisp, clean. The bag against his back was government issue. More likely than not he was a military type. Retired from soldiery and with good recommendation got another government job. "Right this way Agent White. The breakroom is over there to your right, if you continue down the hall to the left you'd hit Traffic on the left and Personnel and Records on the right. Down to your right you have the same kind of one-turn hallway which leads to Narcotics and then Homicide, where I work. This is the main area where we receive all our calls, out back is the garage and the lot for all our cars, and through the doors in the back there are the bathrooms, showers, and lockers. And of course, all the big heads are upstairs. Any questions so far?" I was right, long days.

Agent White

"Appreciated, much thanks. The only question I can think of is where to start. We've got crime families of every race, size and color out running roughshod, and we need to end it ASAP. We can either hit the bigwigs right now, direct action, or we could skulk around picking off the smaller guys and play off the resulting land grab. Save us some bullets that way."

He was a soldier for sure, here to fight a war. A war that would clean the streets, or cover them in blood. I had a job to do, but I had the rough feeling that soon hings wouldn't be desk work anymore. I guess the goal is gonna be to come home with the same amount of holes in me when I started the day. "Well, so far we can only guess what the bosses are up to. You know, the usual, murder, extortion, alcohol. We don't have anything to prove it, and when we do get it, something happens and it gets 'lost.' If you're looking for an opinion, I say we hit the little guys first. Get rid of enough employees to make them want to hire anyone. Then just makes sure that 'anyone' is one of us. High risk, but that's why you're here, isn't it Agent White?"

"Yes, sir, Detective Hartman. If we can wrangle a few good actors to slip in between the cracks, that would be smashing. I'm afraid my skills lie mainly in how well I can guide a bullet into an enemy. The best plan here would be to very discreetly watch where the small fry go and whom they deal with. Maybe find a bum or two to watch the streets. No one pays them any mind. Once we have a passable schedule, we pick them off like mule deer."
White was already thinking about the logistics and manpower needed to carry out the operation. It would be a hefty few.

This guy was as straight and narrow as they got. Maybe this town has a chance. I allowed myself the thought of hope. "We better start hitting the small time guys. they're easy enough to find, it's just holding on to them. Bail money usually comes fast if they're related to or know the right people. There are several bars I know around town. We could easily pick up one of the street trash guys getting thrown out and give him a bit more drinking money to keep his ears open. Just got to go on a stake out." And before I knew it, the dominoes were being set up, one by one. I just had to make sure I was out of the way before they'd fall over. And sure enough, there'd be plenty of pieces left to pick up.

"Alright. I'll unpack my things here, and we'll get some good intelligence on known associates and such. I do believe we're going to do good things here, Detective."
It was confirmed. Hartman would be just as professional and efficient as any Marine. Silas was very appreciative indeed of his good fortune.

The agent shuffled towards the back of the station, eager to crack on with cleaning the streets. He unpacked a few changes of clothes and hung them in a spare closet, while double-checking his shoulder-holstered .45 and the Ka-Bar he had tied to his calf. It never hurt to be over-cautious in enemy territory.

"Well, when you're all ready to go Agent White, come get me. I'll just be in my office continuing with my paperwork." As I made my way back to my office, I couldn't help thinking back on what Agent White had said. We're going to do good things here. Part of me just winced at the thought that if we did, we'd end up in a ditch somewhere, or with a nice set of concrete slippers. Stirring up too much trouble than it's worth. But that's what we do, no sense in fighting it. The goal now is not to avoid gunfights and car chases, but to come out of the whole thing alive and hopefully in one piece.

Agent White unzipped one of his hanging suit bags and removed a long, fashionable overcoat. With his white dress shirt and black tie, he could be just another schmoe on the street. He pulled an eyepatch from his "charlatan's bag", a small disguise kit and ruffled his moustache to look a bit less well-groomed. His beard that he'd been growing since he left the service made the impression of his scruffiness complete.
