~The Amagi Inn~

Perhaps the most famous location in all of the rural town of Inaba, visitors flock from around the country in order to visit the renowned Hot Springs of the Amagi Inn. Kept and maintained for generations by the Amagi Family [currently managed by the mother of Yasogami High student Yukiko Amagi], it is said that you almost have to reserve your room a month in advance in order to get one during the busy season!

A little known fact, however, is that one of the rooms is almost always kept vacant, as it was said to be the site of a grisly murder. The details around the incident are not spoken of around the Inn, however protective charms are always placed inside the room and over its door in order to ward away any untoward spirits.

"I am on my way out. Is there anything else needed to get done before I do?" the girl with long onyx haired asked as she poked out her head in the lobby, already changed into the Yasogami High school uniform and her usual red sweater, her bag held tightly on her hands. It had been a busy summer break for the Amagi inn. Given that things calmed down enough to appear relatively normal again, people resumed their visits and vacations at the traditional inn and its famous hot springs, making it hard for the Amagi heiress to go out and spend some time with her friends at occassions. As much as she enjoyed working in the inn, tending to guests, tending to the lobby at times when her mother felt tired, and talking with the other workers, she regretted not having been able to spend more time with Chie and the others. She had missed them. She missed Teddie's silly jokes, Chie's energy and conversations, Naoto's bashful face whenever Rise said anything about her relationship with Kanji, Yosuke's witty remarks...and mostly, she missed Souji.

She wondered how he had spent the summer, if he had more fun than her, or if he had spent most of his time with the entrance exams. She didn't worry much about him in that aspect, knowing he'd be able to pass any exam thrown his way. A small smile was drawn on her glossed lips, a voice returning the girl back to the real world. They could manage on their own, or that is what her mother said, so Yukiko, with a nod and a bow, turned to walk out of the front door. "Alright. I'll be leaving now!"She moved quickly to reach the bus that would take her to school. She was slightly late, the dark haired girl knew that...but hopefully, she'd be in time for the ceremony. A hand pressed down on the red band on her head to help keep it in place as she ran, slowing down into a stop as the bus stop came into view. Lucky for the girl, it wasn't long before the transit vehicle arrived at that stop. Taking a seat, and praying it wouldn't take all that long to get there, the girl brushed down the creases on her skirt, and smooth down her long dark locks. Now, she just could wait.

Al Azif and Ennea

"Aaaaah!" Ennea let out a relaxed sound as she spread out in the Hot Spring. Truly, there was nothing quite like a Japanese Hot Spring to remind her of the places she'd left behind... and nothing better for relaxing anywhere in the country. A small towel rested on her head, expertly balanced, as she enjoyed the luxurious experience. Her companion, the Heroine of Justice, was rather more methodical about the whole thing. She carefully and thoroughly cleaned every bit of her body before ever getting into the hot spring, under the belief that cleanliness was of vital importance for a hero. It was all right to get dirty in the line of duty, but you washed up as soon as it was reasonable to do so. In fact, the girl was even singing... albiet quietly, to herself, so as to not bother others too much.

"Tresspassing the boundaries of mortality~ In the city where chaos is the only known rule~ We shall inherit the key, ancient and immortal~ Man, god, machine, all for one~ A clamor for light slaying the evil inside~ Clamor for life's light igniting the skies~ For only in that light shall we see darkness' downfall~"

Yup. Justice was her thing. As if anyone could possibly have had any doubts.

Al Azif and Ennea

"By the way, if we're gonna keep working with Yuzu, you should probably tell her you're a demon." Al said as she sat down beside Ennea inside of the tub. If the other girl had been drinking, she would have spit the contents out at that very moment. Unfortunately, the universe didn't always arrange for such comedic displays... thus, Ennea was left to coughing and sputtering instead.

"You know about that!?" she finally managed to get out once she'd gotten ahold of herself. Just on the other side of the walls of reality, her two guns waited for their master to call them forth. Al just looked up at Ennea and smiled. "Aren't you... worried, or afraid, or anything! We do a show with little kids around!"

"If I didn't trust my best friend, what kind of heroine would I be?" Al asked. Ennea stared at her for a few moments more, then plopped back into the Hot Spring and sunk down until her mouth was under the water. A few bubbles rose up as she exhaled, muttering something too indistinct to hear. It was possible that some of the redness in her cheeks had been caused by something other than the heat of the hot springs.

Really, though, Ennea was probably a little bit silly for having thought she could keep it hidden. A Heroine's eyes were discerning, and they'd been staying in one of the Inn's rooms for quite some time now. It was easy to miss on a casual look, but Ennea truly was a demon... one of a higher order, even, where it took some pretty serious might to overcome her. A Hero of Justice had to trust her allies, though. So, naturally, she did. Ennea had yet to do anything to lose that trust, after all, and Al would always give the benefit of the doubt to someone who didn't seem like a bad sort.

Al Azif and Ennea

Ennea had just started relaxing again when she felt two slender hands get a good grip. "Gyah!" "For the sake of great justice, I demand that you tell me the secret to looking like this!" Ennea pushed forward, sending both of the girls plunging into the hot spring and, unfortunately, getting certain towels rather wet. Oops. She broke the surface a moment later, laughing in spite of herself, before grabbing Al's face with one hand and trying to shove her away. The petite heroine was a lot stronger than she looked, though, and her grip was firm enough that there was no way Ennea could get rid of her so easily. "I don't know, genetics!?" The two girls spent a little more time wrestling before Ennea finally managed to disengage and drag herself to the edge of the hot spring. She was too amused to be angry. "I will get the truth from you yet!" Al was smiling too, though.

But, more than anything else, this sort of thing helped Ennea remember who her friend truly was. Al wouldn't dislike her just because she was a demon, and that was a lot more than she could say about other people she'd met over the years. Maybe humanity had a few bright spots left after all.

Al Azif and Ennea

Ennea sighed slightly as she leaned back and looked up towards the sky. She'd lived in Japan for so long that she didn't need it to be dark out in order to remember the position of the stars; a simple thought and they were right above her, still glittering. These silly humans and their beliefs about the way it all worked... well, that was okay, too. She was sort of a strange case for a demon, holding the name of a noble and powerful Tyrant but focusing her energies on having fun, rather than promoting her ideology across the world. It didn't really matter to her what the world was like as long as she could have fun inside of it, something that couldn't be said for all those uptight old grumpyfaces. Ack, she really was going native. Used to be that people threw themselves to the ground just because she happened to be passing by; her aura of intimidation brought even powerful enemies down to their knees with nothing but a look and her willpower. She could still do that, just... not as constantly. In the end, though, she was okay with that. Power was great, but enjoying her life was even better. Though, if she hadn't had power, she wouldn't have lived to see nice days like this one. So that was something to be thankful for.

"Somethin' on your mind?"

"Nah, not really. Hey, how about we go look at the stars tonight? I want to show you something."

"Hm? Sure, I guess."

Al Azif and Ennea

A faint burst of light glinted off the end of a very special, very popular device... and that was all justice needed in order to notice it. One hand grabbed a bucket, and without even getting up out of the water, Al hurled the item with enough force to completely smash the camera and slam into the face of the one holding it (which, incidentally, probably meant bits of the camera were shoved into his skin...). This was a girl who was much, much better than a lot of people gave her credit for... though, underneath the water, Ennea quietly allowed Ithaqua to vanish. This was one of the key differences between the two; Al was justice incarnate, more or less, while Ennea... well, Ennea was an ancient and powerful demon who was tired of tormenting humanity and just wanted to relax a little and enjoy her existence for once. At the same time, though, her own instinctive reactions to threats were far more violent and likely to result in someone being hurt or killed. She did try to keep that under control, though, if only so she wouldn't disappoint her friend.

Titus and Kimiko

Sweat trickled down Titus' back as he stood in front of the place they'd be staying for a little while. Go take a vacation, the Family said. It'll be fun, the Family said. Yeah, but they hadn't mentioned when he agreed to do it that he'd be acting as chaperone for a girl who was a sociopath even by the loose standards of the Lin Kuei. He couldn't really imagine that anyone in the family was less fun than Kimiko (although there was a certain amount of fun in putting an apple on someone's head, getting her increasingly drunk, and having her throw her knives so as to shave off slices of the apple... the look on people's faces was pretty priceless). Throughout the entire trip her expression had barely budged; even when she ate, it was more nibbles than anything else and a minimal amount of jaw movement. Some jerk in the house had arranged for a shared room on top of that...

It may have surprised some that Titus didn't fear for his life, despite the fact that he was traveling with one of the Lin Kuei's top assassins. The fact was, if she was supposed to try and kill him, she would have done it already. She was straightforward like that. No, more likely they were doing something back at the house they didn't want her involved in, and her extreme sociopathy meant that someone else needed to come along and keep an eye on her. Thus his own situation. She still tended to make him nervous, though, and he sighed as he opened the door to the Inn and gestured for her to go inside.

The fact that she habitually wore minimal clothing might have been the other part of his worry. He kept feeling like someone was going to arrest him, even though he hadn't really been interested in having such relations since that day.

Titus, Kimiko, Al Azif, and Ennea

One of the doors of the Amagi Inn clattered as it was rolled open and a petite girl walked out of the changing room, the faint aroma of shampoo clinging to her hair and white dress clinging tantalizingly to her body. The girl turned and met Titus' gaze, while many other things happened in short order. Titus' eyes widened in shock as he reached towards the girl with one hand. Maybe it was instinct, maybe it was something else, but a strange man suddenly reaching out to grab a girl who'd just come from a long bath was... well... a situation that could be easily misunderstood. It was probably his fault, to be honest, but Al grabbed his arm and twisted to throw him into the floor. Had he been alone, this might have been the end of it, and a situation where he could have quickly tried to correct the misunderstanding in a fashion appropriate for some harem eroge or whatever.

Unfortunately, he wasn't alone... and if Kimiko didn't really care about him, per se, she did care about the overall family and was perfectly willing and able to consider an attack on him as an attack on the Lin Kuei. It was a good thing the hallway was otherwise empty, since the girl whipped out several knives and darted towards Al, swinging to incapacitate the girl. Of course, Al wasn't alone either... by her side was a demon of ancient knowledge and experience, but who kept up on the times as well. Cthugha and Ithaqua formed in Ennea's hands as Kimiko's weapons came in and repelled them.

"Kimiko! Stop!" Titus finally managed to gasp out, having gotten a little air back into his lungs after being pounded into the ground by the girl currently sitting on top of him. It was a little too late for that, though, because her weapons were out and a fight had begun. Kimiko darted forward again, exchanging blows with the gun-using girl for a few moments before she pulled back her weapon and focused, activating one of her special techniques to enhance her powers and allow her weapon to be driven home.

Before the could complete the movement, though, the girl with the guns just looked at her. For just a moment, she was surrounded by an aura of absolutely terrifying power and Kimiko reeled back, eyes widening in shock. In a way, Titus was even more frightened than her; Kimiko's special talents included an immunity to such effects, but this monster had punched straight through that like it wasn't even worth her time. "You don't want to make me mad, little girl. Put the knives away and listen to your friend." Almost involuntarily, Kimiko's hands moved her knives towards their hidden sheaths, and the Tyrant's aura faded.

Kimiko's hands immediately twisted, sending a knife plunging into Ennea's leg as soon as the supernatural intimidation wore off. It was important to remember that Kimiko was very much a sociopath and had no qualms at all about hurting others. Titus sighed heavily as the terrifying whatever-she-was reeled back, raising her weapons, and the girl on top of him began to gather power. This was all going to go nuts in about two seconds, and it'd probably involve the whole building getting blasted to pieces. A fine way to start his vacation that would be. He whipped himself over, bringing the distracted girl with the purple-ish hair down towards the ground while his hand flicked up and the air in the hallway began to whirl. Preventing the scary girl and the scarier girl from getting at each other was a monster made of wind, a God-Beast of his creation. "All of you, calm down! Kimiko, we're not here to fight! Whoever you are, she was just trying to protect me! As for you..."

He looked over to see where his hand had landed.

Munyu.

Titus, Kimiko, Al Azif, and Ennea

"-and I look just like your dead wife and you were just so surprised! Of course I forgive you!" Al blew her nose, rather noisily, on a handkerchief as Titus nodded energetically, having done some very fast talking to try and explain what had just happened. "I'm the one who should be apologizing for having been so rough to someone who's already suffered so much!" her shoulders shook a bit as tears flowed down her cheeks.

...Some guy's really going to take advantage of you someday. Ennea turned her gaze back to Kimiko. The girl had been introduced as "a family member" by the fast-talking man, though Ennea wasn't entirely certain how much of that she believed. The girl herself didn't really seem to care; in fact, at the moment, she was just sitting on the other side of the table looking bored and quietly sipping from a little carton of juice. She hadn't offered up any information on the abilities she and the man had displayed, and Ennea hadn't asked. Al had apparently come to the conclusion that her remarks were only an attempt to protect her "family member", which made it entirely justified, and she certainly wouldn't go around prying into the business of somebody acting for the sake of justice. The inn had suffered surprisingly mild damage, though, and at least for that Ennea could be thankful. It would've been a pain to replace their home at this point in time, not to mention losing out on the wonderful baths.

"D-don't worry, that all happened a long time ago, and I see no reason for a girl as pretty as you to be crying! You absolutely must let me make it up to you somehow; it was an accident, but I still feel terrible about it!"

"But how could I take something from somebody who's already lost so much!? Let me help you instead!"

"Your kindness is just like my wife's, too! But I can't take anything from you until I've paid back my debt for causing you such embarrassment!"

Idiots.

...Idiots.

Titus, Kimiko, Al Azif, and Ennea

The pile of plates grew steadily as the four sitting down at the table had the equivalent of several meals. Well, some of them did. Titus and Al seemed to have stomachs that were all but bottomless; Kimiko simply drank more cartons of juice and Ennea was too busy keeping an eye on all three of them in case things turned violent again. The two nutjobs had hit it off remarkably well, Ennea noted, though she had a sneaking suspicion that there was rather more going on here than a chance meeting between two people. No, she didn't believe it was some kind of fated reuniting, either, even if humans did reincarnate. Eventually. The man seemed to be telling the truth about his wife, at least, judging from the way he'd looked when he first saw Al. Part of her wanted to stir up some violence anyway, just so she could fight and stretch a little, but... not around here. That just wasn't worth it.

...

Though, her current mindset might partially be due to having momentarily called forth her true level of power. She didn't sustain it these days, not anymore, but boy had she gone all-out way back in the past. Even old memories of all that were enough to excite her into a frenzy; she could still barely believe all of this had ended without someone dying or things getting blown up.

"-so I went on a journey to better myself and find out the truths of life."

"I know, right!? A training journey is a must for those who want to better themselves!" Sparkle sparkle.

Titus, Kimiko, Al Azif, and Ennea

Time continued to pass with the steadiness of a river flowing to the ocean, and eventually the meal was over. Titus and Kimiko would be staying for a little while (exactly how long, he wasn't sure), and they still needed to head over and check their room. After picking up the tab for the whole meal and guiding Kimiko to their chambers, Titus let out a sigh of relief. He hadn't really been expecting the girl to believe him quite that eagerly... which was interesting, since for the most part he'd been telling the truth. Not all of it, obviously, but he'd managed to deflect questions about who and what he was while getting the girl to forgive him. That had been quite a surprise, though... she really was the spitting image of his wife. Thinking about her still hurt, but it was an old pain now, and he sighed as he rolled the luggage into the closet. "While we're in town, you are not to kill anyone without getting my permission first, okay?"

"Worried I'm going to go after those little runts for revenge?" she asked.

"You noticed, didn't you? Those two aren't your average girls... they're probably a match for most of the people in the Family."

"Hmph. I could take them."

Kimiko didn't have the raw power that others did, though her bloodstained knives could still strike hard. What she did have was an immortal body; however powerful a foe was, it was pretty difficult to stop a determined assassin who couldn't actually be taken down. "Yeah, yeah. But just because you can doesn't mean you should; the Boss won't thank us for drawing unnecessary attention. Just... think of it as keeping a low profile between missions."

"...Hm."

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Amagi Inn

"He's such a nice guy, despite all the trouble he's been through!" Al gulped down the contents of a glass of water to help rehydrate herself after all the crying she'd been doing. "I'm sure the fires of justice blaze in his heart!"

"And... you're still not concerned at all about the fact that he can call up a monster made of wind? That thing wasn't like any demon I know of." Coming from Ennea, that was saying something. She knew most demons because, well, she was one of them. In fact... "What he did... reminds me of the past..." She looked up to find Al two inches away from her, looking incredibly curious. Major sparkling eyes and everything. "Gah!"

"Come on, don't end it there! I wanna hear about your past!"

Ennea coughed slightly. "Look, it was a really long time ago, okay? I returned to my homeland occasionally just to keep up on things, especially once I really started to relax, and one time I went was when Europe was having this big obsession with alchemy. Stuff like changing one substance into another, creating and extending life... And what that guy did... he created a life that doesn't exist normally, not even among the ranks of demons. That's a human stepping into the realm of gods."

Al nodded eagerly.

"That's, uh, kind of bad. The way he did it was a seriously refined technique, too, with the kind of mastery that humans usually can't get even with decades of hard work. There's a lot more to that guy than he's telling." She held up her hand; after the fight, the man had called forth an adorable little creature and had it heal her. Seeing this was a major factor in Al's decision to forgive him, since she had a weakness for cute animals.

"I'm sure he's not all that bad! He apologized for groping me and he tried to stop us all from blowing up the Inn, right?"

"I... guess...?" She was going to have to keep an eye on things for awhile, though, just in case.

Al Azif and Ennea

Even a Heroine of Justice couldn't stay on one topic forever, and enough time had passed for the girl to truly start to calm down. Al quietly sat down on the bed and crossed her legs, then focused her thoughts and energies. Part of her odd weapon appeared in front of her, summoned from wherever the heck it was kept when it wasn't being used. A holy realm, maybe. Ennea had never been entirely sure about that, nor did she recognize the magical powers that Al used. Then, of course, there was the name for her tool... but 'Demonbane' was probably appropriate, considering her personality. Ennea had seen Al's Super Serious 100% Nothing Held Back Final Attack exactly once and holy crap was it overpowered. Rather like her own magic, in fact, except for the fact that Al had weaponized love.

That's right. The most powerful force in the universe had literally been turned into a magical sphere of destruction to be used at the whims of a girl who actually believed that the world worked the way Sentai television shows said it did. And who was very open to the idea of befriending people by beating the crap out of them. The very few people who knew that fact tended to have a very reasonable concern over the possible consequences of putting so much energy into the hands of a girl who... well... might not have been entirely sane. She wasn't randomly crazy, not the way some people were, but there had to be something wrong with her head. She'd swallowed that entire ridiculous tale from the inn's other visitor, even!

"Urgh... I need a drink."

Titus and Kimiko

Titus frowned slightly as he came back into the room after having gone to have a talk with the landlady. It seemed that there were a few problems at the moment... namely, the fact that a powerful and well-armed military force was sweeping the town for something called a 'Demon Summoning App', which sounded rather awkwardly like what his alchemy could do. Not exactly, of course; from what he'd been able to learn, these could be used by anyone and most of the demons summoned were far inferior to the raging power of his God-Beasts. Still, one had to wonder if it was on purpose... "All right, Kimi- PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!" The girl looked at him blankly as she stepped out of the bathroom, a towel around her neck and hanging over her chest, then shrugged and headed towards the closet, which had three sets of the exact same outfit. Titus sighed. "All right, look, it's even more important that you avoid notice today. The Boss isn't going to look kindly at us if we do something stupid and attract attention. It's not profitable to stick out around here, okay?" Kimiko looked at him as she dressed, completely at ease with putting on her outfit. "...What if they corner us anyway?" Titus hesitated slightly. "Just... knock them out or something. If it's bad enough we have to leave a scene, I'll burn the evidence before we escape, but use minimal force. All right?" The girl just nodded as she finished dressing, and the two of them stepped outside of the room to go get breakfast in the hall. Right, they were just a pair of ordinary tourists here to enjoy the Hot Springs and relax in the comfortable atmosphere of a lazy town in the middle of nowhere...

Heh. Yeah, right.

Kisa

Connections were... useful. Perhaps more importantly, inns were well-versed in the ideas of privacy, and Kisa had taken advantage of that when handing over some funds to use the hot springs. Unlike renting a room, these were cash transactions not recorded as anything other than a person entering to use the facilities, with no notations on when they left. It also meant that if anyone came to the inn asking for her by name (which she'd never given to any of the staff; only Yukiko would know, and she was at school... probably...), they wouldn't recognize it. To further cement the disguise, she'd applied a massive amount of makeup over her visible tattoos and worn a jacket that could disguise the spike coming out of her neck.

The reason for all of this secrecy, of course, was the massive crackdown the Embryon was doing. She'd already been given a message that heading to school would be unwise, and indeed, there had been something of a checkpoint in the area. She refused to completely duck out of the town, though, running like a scared little girl just because somebody frowned at her. Hence carefully maneuvering into this area, in the zone outside the baths, where she was wearing a bathrobe and looking like nothing other than a person relaxing on one of the seat cushions. She even had some books to read, which appeared to be popular novels on the outside but were actually school textbooks (as opposed to the more common way of doing things, which was the other way around). She wasn't going to school, but the least she could do was study. She was so far behind in some areas that, honestly, it really didn't even matter if she was there or not. A mild consequence of spending years out on the streets, fighting for her life against a variety of demons and monsters...
