~Samegawa Flood Plain~

A prime fishing destination often used for picnics, romantic meetings, and other purposes near the Samegawa River, the Flood Plain fills with water during the monsoons in order to prevent the flood from reaching the residential and other districts. Many people use the Flood Plain for different reasons, though, and its location along the road between the Residential Districts and Yasogami High make it a popular place to stop or visit while en route to the city or school for students and citizens alike.

Several small gazebos line the plain, and a few small docks still play host to fishermen young and old who are in search of the "King". Who knows what interesting things you may stumble upon on the Flood Plain?

Shizuko Nakagawa, The Gothic Guitarist

Not for the first time, she hid a wide yawn with her hand. She'd been up late again, playing that Innocent Sin game. It was old, but she liked it, and had spent most of the break playing it. Whenever she wasn't practicing playing her guitar, that is. But, now it was back to the usual grindstone.

Stretching her arms above her head a moment, she let them fall back to her sides, swinging her bag as she walked along the road.

♣ Inaba's Junior Detective Prince ♣

Another year...it felt so strange, going right back to the normal routine of attending school as if nothing was going on. The blunette was seated underneath the cover of the resting spot off the road, her school case on the table in front of her as she watched people walk by. She was already fairly early, by the time she got back up and continued on her way, she still would be. So far...everything seemed okay. Any trouble around lately was normal trouble. Naoto could almost admit she wasn't used to that level of...calm. But there was still something. She knew better than to completely accept the peace in town. Her hand lifted to the brim of her hat by habit, fingers running across the edge of it before she rested it on her belongings again. She stood up, picking up her case, and continued on her way, a slow pace, towards school. There were a lot of things on her mind, but for now school had to take front line.

"Kuro" Adamochi
The Borderline Artist In Denial

Somewhere far off the path itself, Kuro Adomachi as usual, wandered the Samegawa, near the river's edge. It was where she went often. It wasn't like she looked that dangerous or anything. That was the perk of having her in the group, she supposed. Though it also let her wander more. As long as no one who knew of her already saw her of course. To her family she'd been statused as missing for a while now. Her brother had to know the truth too, but he couldn't tell their parents. It was strange, he could tell them if he wanted, then it'd be much easier to track her down and force her to come back home. But...he didn't. Kuro didn't understand them at all. She didn't understand any of that group that her brother was with now. She only knew their names, she used to go to Yasogami with them. She used to idolize Naoto Shirogane, she wanted to be like her.

Where she was at now...she was confused. She wasn't sure how she got here. Instead of the path she wanted from the beginning, she ended up lured down a darker path. But...they wanted her around. That was the thing. They invited her, they kept her. They didn't spread slander about her, and she wasn't belittled among them. She was scared as all hell of them maybe. That was something. Between her fear of the Messiahs and her feeling of acceptance with them, and yet also the tug of her brother's continuing efforts, Kuro's head was spinning almost all the time lately. It didn't help her condition that she had no medication she took anymore. It cause her to become more unstable, she'd been having a lot more fits and attacks lately. This morning happened to be a calmer morning. There was something about her persona though, it kind of kept her in a calmer state of mind half the time, or tried. since it had changed. She remembered the larger and more wild wolf that was before, but it'd changed into a smaller beast that called itself...Geri... Kuro leaned against the black motorcycle that once belonged to Kazuma, that now belonged to her, and watched the water, letting her thoughts wander.

Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader
"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

Breakfast behind him, the silver-haired teen could feel the energy coursing through his body once more; being something of a morning person on the norm, it wasn't unusual for him to make a complete U-turn into full-consciousness once the grog was shaken. Still, it was fairly remarkable how in the distance between his bedroom door and the exit of the Dojima Resident (with the aid of a little sisterly love and a few sparse nutrients) he could transform from a bleary-eyed, tired-looking young man into the very definition of unintentional swag. Or at least clear-eyed consciousness, as he would more likely call it. His long legs were full of life, and his body was as relaxed as it had been in months. The town was quiet, and if rumors held, the school would be receiving a bevy of transfer students today...an influx of new blood that would have seemed unusual if it weren't for the fact that the town was only just now settling after the incidents a few months past with the burning of much of the Residential District, the threat of the Messengers, and the Lockdown amongst others. People, and life, were returning to the town that he loved, and even if he knew that the peace couldn't last forever, there was something satisfying in watching it come so much closer to the rural bastion of tranquility that he had fallen in love with at times the year prior. His lips curled into a small smile as his casual shoes tread the path through the Floodplain towards the hill where the high school rested at the very end of the long path. The breeze felt nice upon his skin, a pinch at the corner of his scarred eyebrow little concern to him as he moved with liquid efficiency, a clouded eye peering towards the sky and the clouds above. No rain meant no umbrella, leaving his hands empty save a bag of books a bit heavier than normal. There were a few extra workbooks inside today, prep for the upcoming testing that would inevitably determine their fates when the school year finally came to a close next March. It was never too soon to start thinking about the future...a mantra that he felt almost strange reciting now, after all the work they had done (and were yet to do) to safeguard that same future.

It felt, perhaps for the first time in a long time, that the work of he and his friends (of all over) was finally beginning to bear tangible fruit. The thought was enough to speed his step ever-so-slightly, bringing him closer by the second towards the gates of his school and the opening ceremony that was sure to follow soon after.

And yet as he went down the long walk, the sound of the cool water rushing past softly in the not-so-distant basin of the floodplain wafting into his ears, his thoughts turned from the new and returned at length to the familiar, the comforting, that which he loved above all others. This wasn't just a peaceful breath of fresh air for himself, but for his friends as well. Sure, they had seen one another plenty over the last month and a half, but there was no denying that he wished he could have seen more of them over the expansive summer break. And since he had delved hard into his studies for the Entrance Exams over the last week, it had been far too long since he had indulged in the joyous company of his little blond friend Teddie, or the casual friendship of the so-called 'Prince of Junes'. He had missed the energy of Chie when he was slogging through prep workbooks and longed for just one of those trademark nervous grins that Kanji would offer to his senpai when showing off one of his newest creations of fabric and stuffing. Even thinking about calling Naoto to chat about their situation with the shadows had been out of the question because he knew that she would merely encourage him to work harder, and while he could guess that Faust and Kusuri would be more than hospitable...he didn't want to intrude on the first real peace together they had enjoyed since the whole mess with the Messengers had begun in the first place. Spending time with Rednal was always a consideration, but he was basically in the same situation as Faust (and for longer, even, given that he was the first of the new bunch)...Genji had been spending more time than usual with his family in lieu of his recent disappearances to the family's estate grounds, and Nix...well, she still didn't quite seem to know how to approach him in a way that made her comfortable just yet. Still, he couldn't help but smile as he thought of them, wondering how they would react to the first day of a new semester. In the case of Amelia, it would be her last Fall Semester ever...as it would be his own, at Yasogami High. He had seen Minori plenty before she left their home to spend more time with her rich friend and smooth boyfriend, so he didn't miss her so much as the others. And Zeo...well...Zeo would always be Zeo. He knew he was missing his friends when even that blue-haired wannabe playboy was getting distant enough for him to miss his antics. Of course, he missed the others as well...Crowley with his weird, magician ways...Karu with his everyday ups and downs...Nekama and her burgeoning relationship with Dan, Tobikuma's endless optimism and Kanbe's strange fetish for taking things to pieces...

...But in the end, even he couldn't deny the two people that he had been missing the most. The two who still filled his heart and confused it in equal measure, whom to this day he found himself worrying over and caring for, as earnestly as he ever had. He had seen them both recently, but they were perhaps the most busy of all his friends. Rise had spent the last month shooting a pair of commercials for some new brand of lip gloss and mascara, products that her manager had explained would 'reintroduce her to the public as a more mature beauty'...though Soji tended to think that she only looked more mature and beautiful because, with the passing of time, she was becoming just that...even more mature and even more beautiful. Bit by bit, the idol was coming into her own...and these commercials, glamorous as they were, were only a stopgap in what would surely be a remarkable comeback when she finally graduated and went back into the industry. Sure, he had seen her on occasion between shoots, and he couldn't begrudge her the refreshing feeling she had described to him, getting back into the swing of her career, if only in earnest. Still, he had missed her...her secret little smiles, the way she was always surprising him, and the soft, loving way she spoke to him when the two of them were alone. Would she be there in the auditorium today during the ceremony this morning, as boundless in energy as ever? A flash of her red-orange hair was all he wanted to see, just a peek to satisfy him...and they could speak as much as they wanted when the school day ended. He hoped...

And then there was...

...

His eyes shifted towards the gazebo near the embankment of the river, remembering when, not so long ago, he had encountered a certain girl there with onyx hair and a lovely pink kimono. Her soft smile was precious, like a warm breath of air on a cold winter day. She had been so busy lately with her work at the Inn that she hadn't even had time to study with him or prepare for her own entrance exams. Though, when he thought about it, was there really any reason for her to take them? It was her decision to stay at the Inn after graduation...to take over her family's pride and protect those who had cared for her for so long, but even so...he wondered if he could imagine his school life in another place, in another grade, without her. His clouded eyes seemed to distance themselves from the road as the thought crossed his mind, but no sooner had he begun to consider the possibilities than the smooth grade of the long road changed into an incline, signaling the arrival at the bottom of Yasogami High's hill. He would be at the gate soon, he realized...and all of these thoughts of distant feelings and longing to see his friends would soon be at an end.

In a way it was fitting, as it was here that it all began. His friendships...his relationships...he couldn't help the relaxed expression that came over him, the weight of his books forgotten easily despite the difficult trek up towards the school above.

Somehow, and he would never know quite how it was possible, going to school on a peaceful Fall morning felt almost like coming home...

♣ Inaba's Junior Detective Prince ♣

Naoto's eyes drifted up towards the sky for a moment before she took a look around at the others walking down the same path. Turning her head some, that was when she could catch the familiar silver hair. Given what's happened so far, Naoto had no doubt Soji had a lot on his mind, much of the time. From abnormal things to more expected things of a high school student, as Naoto was aware most of her sempai this year would be in their final year at Yasogami High. The period of calmness they'd had so far had to be a great relief to him. She didn't ask too much of other aspects of his life, that wasn't any of her business and it seemed to serve enough of a distraction to him already without someone who wasn't really involved bringing it up. Usually instead Naoto served as more of a source of work encouragement. She wasn't very skilled at talking of more normal social matters anyhow...

Still, it didn't hurt to greet him, after all, despite that he was still a good friend to her. "Senpai!" Naoto had stopped walking, attempting to get Soji's attention. He seemed to be at ease this morning, which was good to see. "Good morning, Senpai. You seem to be doing well this morning." Naoto said, greeting him once he was within earshot.

She couldn't do this anymore. They'll kill me when they find out I'm back, for running away but... She'd have to show her face. Kuro couldn't stay alone like this, it wasn't...healthy, nor was it preferred personally. She stood up and climbed into the motorcycle, starting the machine before giving it a brief rev. She looked back at the road, and turned towards it, directing the wheels back onto concrete before leaving towards where her home was. And then later...she'd show her face at school again.

Amongst the students happily heading towards Yasogami High there was one Senior student that wasn't so thrilled about the walk. He would much rather be elsewhere doing something useful with his time. Though if he wanted to keep up the guise of an average student then attending school was one of the requirements to fill. These past two months went by so slowly since he had nothing to do but to head home and continue his charade. As Sano walked down the road on Samegawa he remembered when met Teros and Kuro, a meeting that changed his life. That brought up other memories he would much rather forget but couldn't. The boy reached up and lightly scratched his chest, recalling the scar over his heart. 'New term.. That means I'll have to see those people lingering around. I'll tolerate their presence for now but when the time comes..' The male student sighed, the irritation clear, as he pushed the thought from his mind. If he kept thinking about it then his temper would get the best of him.

Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader
"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

He hadn't been expecting to encounter anybody in particular en route to the first day of the new semester, and given that he was much later than he was used to, the Senior had anticipated that many of his closer friends would already be settled into the school and getting ready for the entrance ceremony by the time that he made it to the bottom of the hill. That made it a fairly welcome surprise when the deep and mildly feminine voice of his team's Detective Prince called out to him from the grassy area of the Floodplain, making her way over towards his side with her school bag and trademark hat in-tow. She was still short, but she was growing bit-by-bit into her slight frame, which was good considering how amusing (in the most charming of ways) it could be when she stood next to her large, ex-delinquent boyfriend or in those rare moments that she was willing to show her affection for him. He could remember faintly an image of the two of them in their Festival clothes walking about during the Tanabata celebration back in July, and it was as heartwarming as it was silly...with perhaps a shade more towards the former if you really thought about it. Now, however, she came past his chin with the aid of her hat so he didn't need to look down far to catch her casual but friendly expression. They hadn't much opportunity to talk of late, and her serious personality made it a bit more difficult for her to get wrapped up in the sort of useless conversation that kept them all idle and sane in the times when they weren't working or studying or fighting against the darker forces in the world. But she had become more comfortable with them of late, and Soji was never the type to judge, either way. His lips curled into a half-smile as he nodded a greeting, slowing his pace a half-step so that she could fall into line with his longer strides up the path towards Yasogami.

"Ah, good morning, Naoto...do I seem well?" his half-smile was coy, a small and rhetorical nod that made an easy entrance into a conversation for the both of them. He was in good spirits and so did she seem to be, perhaps because the peace was so pervasive and the two of them were finally getting the chance to enjoy this Inaba school life for what it really could be...for the first time in he couldn't tell how long it might have been. His bag shifted over his shoulder to accommodate the increased grade of the hill and a casual gait made its way into his step, ashen eyes watching his companion as he moved with liquid ease. "How was your break?" was the casual question he finally settled upon after a half-second's consideration, deciding that repeating her observation of his wellness would have been glib and that going much further into depth would have somehow cheapened the tranquility of the air and the walk surrounding them. He had never been one for saying all that much in conversation unless it was required, anyway. And today, of all days, he wanted to bask in the simple pleasures that the town could afford him...before his last semester of school and whatever else might come his way decided to make things complicated once more.

Such thoughts were cast aside with relative ease, though, replaced by the honest curiosity about his clever young underclassman's break and how she had spent her time while he was shut up with his workbooks getting ready for exams he might never even get the chance to take. After all, it had been a while since he had been given the opportunity to speak with her...had she been spending with working with his uncle? Investigating around the town for clues about the Messiahs actions? Spending time with Kanji? ...Of all things, he found that he really just wanted to know how she had been, what she was doing...just to catch up with a friend seemed such a luxury in lieu of all the events of the past year and a half. ...And he had no intention of taking it for granted.

♣ Inaba's Junior Detective Prince ♣

It felt a little bit like old times when occasionally Naoto would walk with Soji and perhaps inquire about something going on at the time. "My break...was uneventful, aside from my studies and work." Naoto answered. It had been uneventful, there wasn't too much to find. It was quiet all around lately, it seemed, if Naoto had found anything interesting for Soji to know, then by all means she'd find a way to let him know. Unfortunately, she hadn't been able to uncover much without too many supernatural outbursts disrupting town life.

She'd spent a bit of free time with Kanji as well. Her grampa was pleasantly embarrassing about encouraging her to give the boy some quality time. It was still...awkward, to say the least, but that seemed to be a phase that Naoto found difficult to grow out of. Of course, personal life wasn't something that Naoto discussed so easily, as she didn't bring it up. "It was a satisfactory time off, nonetheless." She eventually added. Which was to say, none of them were about to complain about the placidity of the town. Naoto lifted her gaze to the road ahead, keeping pace with Soji. As much as her inability to socialize as well as the rest of them, Naoto couldn't deny the knowledge that she did look forward to the school year and perhaps finding a bit of time to see the others more, when not busy with the more commonplace yet new obstacles that her senpai would be bearing as seniors and her and her own classmates would be as juniors this year.

Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader
"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

It wasn't any secret that conversation wasn't the strong suit of the junior detective at his side, but as time progressed and she became more acclimated to her friends, she opened up more about the things that she was willing to share with them. He didn't dare ask her directly about her relationship with Kanji, of course, not because it was a secret or that she likely would have been offended if he did...but it was early and he was feeling like a kindly senpai for the first time in a while, heading back to school on a peaceful day like this. It might have been fun to make her blush or hear her bat away his question with her usual quick wit and a dismissive sliding of her hat a little deeper over her eyes, but that could always come later. For now, he was just happy to listen to her talk about anything, even if it was a pretty general recap of an uneventful summer. Feet moved steadily up the hill as the gate of the school came within sight in the far distance, and for a moment an easy silence seemed to have fallen in between them. As it were, the two least talkative members of the Investigation Team had managed to be thrust together for a conversation en route to their first day of the semester. And while the team's leader found himself unusually eager to hear a little more about the life and times of his companions from the team, it seemed as though there wasn't a lot to relate from the girl next to him's last few weeks of summer. It wouldn't do if she was the only one talking anyway, he decided, even if he preferred to listen rather than speak. There was one thing he had become increasingly adept at during his time at Yasogami, however, and that was knowing when to open his mouth in order to release some or any awkward tension that was building. If getting people to open up to you was an art form, then Soji Seta was Rembrandt. Or maybe he was more like Bob Ross, planting his happy little trees...first you had to plant the seeds for future conversation. Then, with patience and the right nourishment (and timing), the seed would bloom.

"Mine was...mostly the same," the silver-haired Senior's voice answered her description of summer with a perfunctory referendum on his own, his lips curling at the corner nearest to her in a half-smirk, that easy charisma of his shining through for a brief moment as clouded, ashen eyes peered up at the cloud-covered sky above them, "It's strange to be thinking about things like entrance exams when you know your shadow is out there somewhere right now, planning his next move just beyond where you can reach him. ...I wonder if it's not silly to be worrying about college when there's still so much to do here..." To deepen a relationship and learn more about your friends, one always had to be willing to offer up more of their own heart and open themselves to the other. This particular subject was on that had crossed his mind a few times during his studies over the last couple weeks, and no matter how he poured over the thoughts in his mind he could never find an answer that satisfied him. Did he even know what he wanted to do after high school? What he would study if he does get accepted? Where he would like to attend college to start with? And all of those thoughts would mean nothing if he could not defeat his shadow...the very idea of leaving that Tower and his own darkness behind in Inaba while he moved on was completely unthinkable. It seemed to him that his life was ever-going to remain this way, idling in this peaceful town until he could exorcise the demons that plagued her. He didn't mind the town at all, of course...he had grown to love Inaba and the people within her. But his future could lead him anywhere, he knew. And he knew that he could only access that future by facing his true self...once and for all...and winning the battle within him.

It was, perhaps, a moderately heavy thought to share on such a peaceful morning, but since he had not made any direct mention of worries and his smile seemed as easy and cool as ever, his companion would hopefully see no need to let it dampen her mood. This, after all, was just another aspect of his life and hers that he had come to accept as the days progressed, an obstacle recognized that would soon be overcome through his strength and her own, and the rest of their friends combined. And really, that wasn't the subject in question to begin with, was it? Entrance exams, summer break, sharing those worries with a friend en route to the last Fall semester of his life...if it weren't for the shadow part and if anyone were listening, they might have mistaken this for a regular old conversation between a troubled senpai, perhaps lending a little wisdom of experience to his underclassman. Then again, for the two of them the supernatural was an everyday thing, wasn't it?

And in a world like this where they knew the things that they knew and did the things that they had done, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing or a good thing he thought, maybe this was normal? He couldn't say he didn't like the sound of that...

The mysteries of the Messiah. Soji had a point, it felt so uncanny, worrying about the commons of life again when you knew what else was waiting out there. Somewhere in that tower that still made itself visible during one mysterious hour at night. Despite his statements, the silver haired senior seemed to keep his light attitude about him. "I don't think that it's silly at all." They all sort of had two sides of their lives, and neither was waiting for the other. "Life isn't going to wait for us to figure things out, after all." The younger detective stated in her usual calm tone.

"You still have the support of the rest of the team, and myself as well, with either situation, too." Hopefully he understood that clearly already. Even if things were getting ready to get rough again, none of them wanted anyone else to get pushed over the edge again like so many times in the past since they started gaining these actual foes. Still, it wasn't something to dwell on so early in the morning of a new school year. After all, for once they just had...a school day, to think about more.

When the bluff of false courage in my voice began to falter
The dream began to endxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When my vision fades I know I'll quickly collapse

Insisting that she not get a ride to school had worked, with enough insisting on the blue haired girl's part. She didn't need that kind of special treatment when she could just walk to school. She didn't mind walking anyway. She needed it. Besides, her family's car was...noticed. If she walked by herself at least it was easier for her to duck around anyone who'd jump her for information. Though of course it's a little bit easier to live in a small town than it was the city. In the city more people knew of her ability with music. In the small town, less people really...cared. Which she had no complaints about at all.

Miki Nobuko was only really known in the city for her talents with music. The violin was her specialty, and she could play it like she'd been practicing for a lifetime, almost. Maybe when he passed on, he gave his gift to her along with his violin. Either way...somehow she'd acquired a status as the "New Prodigy," like the continuation of her closest friend's legacy. She frowned a little bit, lifting her hand to fidget with the gold hair pin in her hair. She carried a school bag on her shoulder, and a violin case in the same hand. She didn't like being thought of as his replacement. It hurt for a lot of reasons. I can't replace him. Doesn't that give his death less meaning, anyway? She sighed and raised her eyes towards the path, heading towards the high school she was going to be attending as a first year. It'd be the first time in a while she wouldn't be home-schooled. It was a little unnerving. Hopefully maybe she'd make some friends, wouldn't get too lost here. She knew Inaba well enough, but living in the town would be a different experience.

Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader
"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

It was easy to open up to Naoto about the things that were bothering the Investigation Team's leader; her uncanny maturity and keen intellect made her someone who could understand the complexities of the different challenges that his life had been throwing at him over the last few months. That they were on the same team, and in some measure, she was experiencing the same sort of feelings made it all the more easy for them to relate to one another. She was a good listener, never seemed to offer empty sentiment or cliches, and she only seemed to take her turn speaking when it was of the most benefit to everyone. If there was one intellect on the Investigation Team that could always seem to match him stride-for-stride, it was Naoto (with Yukiko holding her own well enough); hiding things from her was difficult given her sensibilities and chosen profession. Thus, it was easier to simply tell her what you were thinking and trust that her subtlety wouldn't betray you. Until this day, he never had. He had kept that in mind as he spoke to her about the strange dichotomy of their lives, the peaceful experience of living in this town, going to school, making friends and being the teenagers that they were set against the terror of the supernatural in the Dark Hour and the Tower of Babel. Her reassurance that considering his life apart from the battle with the Messiahs wasn't some sort of dereliction of duty was a small comfort, one that did nothing to erase the eased expression upon his handsome features. Knowing the team was behind him was also a boon, something that he knew now he couldn't take for granted, even if he had never really done so on purpose. Together, those two little facts allowed his shoulders to ease as they neared the gates of the small, rural high school that they called their own.

There was nothing wrong with enjoying the peace while they could, after all...so long as they remained on their guard for what threats were yet to come.

"You're right," the Senior acknowledged with a mild incline of his head, ashen eyes watching as the wide, silver gates of the school began to pass them by and the small courtyard before them came into view, "and I'll continue to support you too, Naoto-kun." Soji couldn't help but tease ever-so-slightly with the male honorific, his mood slightly improved and the refreshing feeling of the school washing over him and the familiar din of students here and there going about their business. "In the Tower, and in...other things." And that one was not so subtle, albeit all in good fun just the same. The winking, warm smirk he offered would be deduced by the Detective Prince in less than a second, his meaning apt to bring a blush to her cheeks or a click of her tongue in distaste at his overture towards her relationship with a certain ex-delinquent. But before she could sputter or scold him either one, the doors of the school were upon them and her protests would be drowned by the sounds of Yasogami High School, the silverette disappearing with a kindly wave behind one of the shoe lockers as he parted from his companion.

"Have a nice day, Naoto~" came his sing-song voice from behind the steel of the lockers, muted but loud enough to hear.

Yeah, school was back in session now...and life was pretty good. If only for a while...

A young girl quietly sat on a bench near the floodplain. If anybody looked at her, they were most likely to think that she was taking a break; the shopping district wasn't THAT far away, after all, and who went around wearing a maid uniform all day? The fact that she was a pretty cute maid wasn't hurting matters any, of course, and the lunch she was eating was a pretty clear indicator of exactly what she was doing there.

Of course, most of it was a lie. Her physical appearance and her clothing were nothing other than an illusion created by demonic power; she was still hesitant to go anywhere too crowded, but this allowed her to at least go into some parts of town and only be stared at a bit, rather than as totally as she would if she walked around covered in tattoos. People tended to remember that sort of thing... and the Yakuza might come around looking to see who this new tattooed person was. Japanese societal stigma and all that. Still, she didn't have to stay outside of town all day anymore, and that was nice.

"You summon and kill... Summon and kill... I fail to see the logic here. Is sanity the price to pay FOR POWER!?"

"That's some disguise you've got there, Missy," a voice suddenly pierced the air between the strange maid-girl and the breadth of the floodplain, and even though the words were spoken to her alone, there was a sort of voluminous echo to it that made every word full of boisterous energy and bravado. One glance would reveal it, the Demi-Fiend in her illusory veil, and perched on the back of the bench beside her like some sort of a red-coated owl with white hair and a roguish smirk was a new companion...whose appearance may well have been out of nowhere as likely as it had been from somewhere. A flair for the dramatic on full display, the man glanced down at the girl with her unusual costume and laughed a little, under his breath, before a full-blown leap sent him into a flip and twist high above, coming down onto the blacktop walk before her at his full height, sticking the landing with all of the skill and grace of a gymnast...but twice the bombast of a Hollywood showboat. Arms spread out to the side, a sword rested upon his back that was as tall as he was and designed quite uniquely, something that only he could likely get the handle of with his strange sorts of talents. "But I've got to say, it's not really my type," completed the thought from before, a flowing, theatrical bow followed as he lowered his head to the girl but still seemed to fill the very space between them with his presence, intimidating, casual, cool enough to fully discourage any thoughts being entertained of attacking while his guard seemed lowered because it most assuredly was not...until he had extended himself into his full stance again and started walking not towards her, but around her as though taking a look at her from many different angles...hand occasionally finding its way to his chin as he considered this idea or that, appraising her disguise or perhaps, the her that lay beneath, "Word 'round the block is, you're starting to catch the attention of men in low places...but I can't say I'm so sure you've got what it takes to call yourself a demon." His walk moved him about her towards the back side of the half-fiend, and if she was following him with her eyes or turning with his steps, he still seemed no less likely to break this little examination with an attack than he was with retreat. And all the while his voice ranged from studious to amused, and anywhere in between, as though despite the serious nature of his words it all seemed to be part of some sort of...game to him. Or maybe he was just too used to this sort of stuff to not have fun with it.

"Beating up low-level chumps like Zombie-Vega and ole' Ghost Rider is one thing; stepping into the ring with the top dogs is a whole different ballgame," the demon prince/slayer walked about her the rest of the way, coming back to rest in the space in front of her with his back to her, long red coat trailing as he seemed positively thoughtful, turning his shoulders slightly so that he was glancing down and sort of off to the side from the road...before suddenly shifting, his fingerless-gloved left hand twisting about in her direction, pointer extending sharply dead into the space between her eyes with a flippant sort of ease, "Still, I can't say I don't like your style...that whole Retro-Caveman 'pound it until it dies' logic seems to have been working out pretty well so far...isn't that right, Kisa?" His eyes turned to her finally, his body wheeling around with a flourish of his coat, arms crossing as he leaned back in a cocky sort of stance, smirk ever-planted upon his lips as one hand strayed from his crossed grip and waved a finger about casually, like a teacher delivering a particularly emphatic lecture. "It was a good move getting in good with the Crows, too...at least that way, you're only half as likely to end up on my Hit List. But you should be careful..." He paused suddenly, and for a moment his playful persona seemed to give way to a serious sort of air...if that seriousness could be characterized by his own playfulness, that was...with two fingers pointing at his own eyes, and then at her in a meaningful sort of gesture.

"Become well-known too soon, or let yourself slide too deep into the realm of demons, and even your friend Kuzunoha and her encouragingly lewd sense of fashion won't be able to protect you," his back turned again, hand flippantly waving over his shoulder as though an idea were just coming to him...or maybe he was just dismissing the seriousness, or it was his way of saying she wasn't yet worth his time? "If you want to make a difference, become stronger...aaand don't be an idiot about it. You hear me, Sports Bra?"
