~::Iwadate Boardwalk::~
One of the most frequented locations in any resort town is the local boardwalk, and Iwadate is no exception to that ideal. Stretching from the southern end of the town far into the northern end, the Iwadate Boardwalk encompasses much of the town's most famous locations, including: Shirokidan High School, Freaky Fish Guy's Crab and Shrimp Shack (famous for hosting the best seafood platter in the northern prefectures!), Iwadate Beach, many of the various family-owned and higher-class resorts in the area, and of course, many local and national franchise outlets for shopping, food, and entertainment.
Other locations which can be found along the Boardwalk include: Mandragora Karaoke Lounge, Wild-Duck Burger, CrocoFur, Aohige Pharmacy, Be Blue V, Power Records, Game Panic Arcade, Nozomi Suemitsu's Gourmet Beachfront Diner, Shimabukuro's Restaurant and Tavern, and Club Mutatsu (a subsidiary of Club Escapade).

Suzume Kirihara White sands, blue seas, the warm balmy breeze...It all greeted the girl as she stepped out of the train. She could hear the crashing of the waves, already feel the difference of weather between the city and the resort town, and she could see people coming and going, their stroll calm, unlike the quick pace of the city. Iwadate was pretty much the same as it had been back when she visited a few months ago...but still, it was full of adventures and unexplored corners; of new fun moments and well...perhaps even of sweet, tender ones as well. The prospect made the girl thrill, a tingle in her stomach making her to move forward, turning to look at her companion brightly as she squeezed his hand in excitement. The way there had gone quickly, or so it felt for the girl, who had kept chatting about this and that, about school and friends...about the beach and how much she had wanted to go there with him. And now that they were finally there...well, she couldn't wait. "Come, come!" A giggle rumbled in her throat, the brunette deciding that swimming was the first activity she wanted to do first. It was true what Sai said...they couldn't go through everything in one night...but they could at least play a bit in the beach, and then after that...well, perhaps they could have dinner somewhere nice and...yeah! They could decide later, in any case, Suzu thought to herself as her eyes turned once more to her violet haired companion, beaming.
Aah! I can't wait!" the girl chirped as her legs directed her to the Boardwalk, eyes taking in everything around her; the people, the little stores and restaurants, how lively they all looked...and she smiled. She liked comparing Iwadate with Oshu back home... not thinking which was better, because really both were so different, and both had their 'charm' that it would be impossible to come up with a favorite. Oshu was her home; her family and friends were there...her school and her whole life was there; she could walk the streets there and know her way around...most of the times...when she wasn't distracted...if she was paying attention. And Iwadate...well, it was colorful and full of sounds that weren't heard back in the city...It had fireworks and quiet nights...it was a place of fun and beauty. What was consistent between them, at least now...was the young man beside her. And for that she was very glad. Sai was very important to her...and while she liked both cities equally...she'd choose the one where he was in.
The girl looked up when they reached the sand, her smile growing even more. Her pace quickened for a moment but she never let go of Sai's hand as she looked for the perfect place to leave their stuff. Finding a nice spot, Suzu dropped her bag, and slipped her fingers from his, setting a towel over the white grains. She looked at her work and nodded, turning back to Sai expectantly. "There, it's ready! Now we can go swimming! You brought your swim trunks, right?"

Sai Sakurazaka, the Urban Legend of Oshu City "...You can trip as many times as you want; I will never let you fall..."If where they had come from was his city, then Iwadate was simply somewhere that the urban legend of Oshu had come to appreciate over time. It had its own special place inside of him, the memories that he had forged there with Suzume some that he could never forget. And while he could never bring himself to see eye-to-eye with a lot of the spoiled, tourist types who frequented the city without any consideration for the people who were suffering around them (the rich snobs of the White Palace most of all), there were sights and sensations that he could only experience once he had stepped out onto that boardwalk and looked out across the ocean with his own crimson eye. The smell of the sea reached his nose as his chestnut-haired companion lead him out to the wooden walk towards the cool white sands, and the sound of the crashing waves was like a soothing thrum inside of his mind. Being early evening, the boardwalk was only beginning to fill, so it wasn't nearly as crowded as it would soon become, giving them a peaceful and mostly unobstructed walk past many of the quaint shops and stands on their path. In a way, it all made the place feel as though it were just for the two of them; he knew better than to expect that the peace would last forever, though it didn't need to. Wherever Suzume was, that was the place where he could find his happiness regardless of whatever annoyances might rear their ugly heads before him. Her excitable steps down onto the loose grains of the beach sands brought him with her in amicable compliance. More than the bright sun and the blue horizon that seemed to stretch on forever over the waters, there was nothing he found to be more beautiful in all the sights around him than her smile. He remained linked to her by their warm hold of hands until at last they reached a clear spot, Suzu laying out a towel for the two of them before bounding up in excitement. Her question wasn't unexpected, but still, he was perhaps a little surprised that she had managed to ask him this time. Last time she seemed content to let him be, but he should have guessed she would want to play together in the water this time.
...Oh, wait. He had. As if she wouldn't want him to have some fun! When everyone else shied away from him and left him to whatever peace he was wrapped up in at the time, she was the only one who could effectively pass through all of the invisible barriers around him to convince him to join her in whatever she was doing. Karaoke (though he had yet to sing), movies, watching her run track...this was just another instance of her irresistible charm drawing him into a game he would have never played otherwise. And while he supposed that he should have been bothered, he just...couldn't. Not when it was her. Those eyes and that smile could nearly charm him into anything, and in spite of himself, he found they would soon be making precious memories together. ...But if he were to admit that he had brought his swim trunks this time, there would be no convincing her not to drag him into the water. And even for the two of them, swimming was something he could hardly imagine letting himself relax enough to do. Could she really manage to convince him to get into the water and swim together? Another challenge had set itself before the Mighty Suzu!
"Enjoy yourself, Suzume," the Senior smiled faintly, hoping that would be enough to convince her not to press the issue much further. Of course, it wasn't the worst thing in the world to go swimming, but then, if he made the whole thing easy for her it wouldn't be any fun, right? Right? "Go ahead and play; I'll be right here."

Suzume Kirihara Even if Suzu knew Sai was hard to convince when it came to some kinds of activities...the answer came still as a surprise. "Huuuuuh? Did you forget?" The girl pouted, and just for a slight fraction of a second, she looked crestfallen; but just like any other time, as if being sad wasn't something she could keep up for long, her bright disposition returned, a smile changing the pouty lips. She would just need to think of something else! There were always other options, right? She needed to stay positive! To find solutions! To have fun despite all! "Well, it doesn't matter! You can still get near and dip in your feet, right? Or you can roll up your pants and get in a bit deeper!" And just like that, she returned to her preparations. "Oh! Oh! I once even got in a swimming pool with my clothes on. Well... more like, I had forgotten my swimsuit and people decided to throw me in." she giggled sheepishly at the memory as her hands pushed the black shorts down her hips, hopping as the piece of clothing tangled with her foot. Sai might have forgotten his swim trunks, but she was more than ready! The girl had slipped the two-piece under her clothes before leaving, to save changing time, she had said with a chirp back home. And well, it was true! "Though," she continued, "perhaps it wouldn't be good doing that now. You would still be wet when we go back. It could be uncomfortable...Not to mention it could ruin the fabric..." The girl mused as she finished tucking away her clothing neatly, turning to gaze at the blue water and then back to her companion with a grin. "So yes! Perhaps just getting your feet in is the best option!"
Another smile, and tugging at his sleeve slightly before she turn and hopped towards the water in her yellow swimsuit, making the 'little ball of energy' tag look more accurate than usual. A thrilled gasp escaped her lips as the water touched her toes, tiny waves washing over her ankles, leaving behind ticklish white foam surrounding them. It wasn't difficult getting her to enjoy the small things, and it wasn't long before the water reached just below her waist. "Come, Sai! It really iiiiis nice! You won't regret it." A hand waved at him eagerly. Yeah... it was nice. And she didn't want to be the only one enjoying it! Sai had to as well...it wasn't as fun if he didn't. She knew he enjoyed whatever she could come up as plans, even if he didn't exactly participate...and most of the times she would respect that and accept it as long as he was happy. But this time... this time she really wanted him to join her. Maybe because she hoped to see them doing something like this together...or perhaps because she really believed it would be fun...perhaps she wanted to be even closer to him. Maybe she hoped for all of them.

Sai Sakurazaka, the Urban Legend of Oshu City "...You can trip as many times as you want; I will never let you fall..."It was always hard to see Suzume disappointed, but there were times when the violet-haired young man who seemed to go with her everywhere she wanted to go had to deny her, or wanted to simply do things his own way while letting her have the fun that she enjoyed. Then again, there were also times when he just had fun playing with her, or at least testing her resolve to make him do the things that he didn't really seem to want to do. It was always a playful battle of wills between them, his wanting to stay calm and relax, to enjoy simply watching her have fun and knowing that there was a contentment in him for the world...and her wanting to draw him out of his quiet, contemplative self and bring him into the fun beside her. Sai never really played. He hadn't been someone who played games or really had the chance to be playful when he was a child, responsibility of caring for himself at times too great for him to ever really cut loose and simply be young. But he didn't resent that past, knowing that whatever dark walks he had taken had brought him here to this place, this time, to this person who was so precious to him playing in the waters of the ocean just before him. He liked the way that things were, and he liked the peace and quiet that his life before not so very long ago had never really given him. And more than anything he liked Suzume, enjoyed simply observing her fun, that innocent charm that made him believe such good things in the world were even possible for him. But simply watching wasn't always enough for her. She wanted him to experience the fun things in life, to play, to do the things that whether she knew it or not, he had never even really dreamed of doing...playing in the waves, sharing walks on the boardwalk with somebody you cared about...and though he resisted, there were often times when he was even grateful for her insistence.
There were times, even, when he was having fun.
...That didn't mean that he had to make it easy, though. After all, even if he caught her pouting, there was little more satisfying than turning that pout into a smile. The question was timing. And the answer to the question of whether or not he had forgotten his swimsuit would be answered after her initial dip into the water, chestnut eyes glancing back to spy him and seeing not the familiar black pants and shirt that she knew so well, but a pair of swim trunks of black and a deep crimson, the only remaining articles of clothing still on him from before appearing to be the eyepatch that never left him. Even his shoes were cast aside, and his broad shoulders and sturdy form could be seen peering out thoughtfully over the ebb and flow of the waters towards the open sea beyond. His expression was altogether peaceful, and though his toes were tickled by the dying foam of the waves, he did not seem in a hurry to follow her into the water, even when she called out to him. It was as though he were simply taking in the moment, wondering how the dark past that he had been born from had ever brought him to a moment so lighthearted and joyful as this one. ...After all, though he could smile occasionally now and enjoy this peace that Suzume brought him, simply basking in her brilliant glow and that charming smile, he could never fully escape the shadow of what he had done. The scars would always be with him, the cuts and bruises of a life lived on the wrong side of the black and white city of Oshu...but the nicks here and there on his body were all barley noticed when compared with a single, ugly wound that remained as a scar upon his chest. Several little healed gashes, ragged as though torn by sheer force emanated from a circular wound at the center of it all...the entry point of the bullet that had nearly killed him on that day in the rain, not so very long ago. He thought back, but couldn't ever recall telling her the story of what had brought him to the hospital on the night that they met, nor what the wounds that kept him in the sterile hovel for a while thereafter had been. Now, that brutal part of his history was borne plainly beneath the Iwadate sun for her eyes to see. It wasn't as though he was self-conscious about it, rather...it was simply part of a truth that he wished she didn't have to know about. It was a part of who he had been before reaching out to a crying girl in a hospital waiting room despite bleeding thickly beneath his bandages, before she had stayed with him in the hospital and visited him often thereafter.
Who he was then, and who he had become, were two different people altogether. No, that wasn't right...it wasn't as though he couldn't accept who he was or the path that he had taken to get here. But for some strange reason, he wished inside himself that only the latter could be known by her. To keep her from his ugly secrets, so she would always believe that he would be safe, that they would be together and happy as they were now. And maybe they would...there was no way of knowing. And he would do all that was within his power to keep it that way. To keep her safe and smiling...the way she was when she called out for him to join her, promising that he wouldn't regret it. Of course he wouldn't regret it...there wasn't a moment of the time that he spent with her that he had ever found himself regretting. Still, if she was so insistent...he could have a little 'fun' with it, couldn't he?
"I told you, Suzume, not to worry about me. Have fun in the water as you like," he answered her, hiding the ghost of a playful smile that dared to tip the corner of his lips, "I am fine as I am. There's nothing more that I could want than what I have right now..."

Suzume Kirihara The water was a pretty nice blue color, it was just the perfect temperature and the waves came in lazily, making it just ideal for swimming and having fun with some games. Perhaps she had been lucky, for she knew that at times huge waves loomed over them, making it good for surfers but well...perhaps not as good for non-surfers like herself. Fingers brushed over the crystalline surface slowly, a giddy chuckle escaping her lips. "Saaaaaai! Really, you should-!" Words got stuck before leaving her throat when she turned once again in an attempt to convince her companion to get a bit closer to the water, only for chestnut eyes to land on him not in his usual clothing, but with his swimsuit, closer to her than when she had turned to look at him last. There he stood with a hidden smile, almost amused at her reaction, making the brunette to smile in turn, spinning to face him with a playful reproach in her face, hands resting on her hips. "Heeeeeey! You tricked me into believing you had forgotten your swimming trunks! That's unfair!" Still, she giggled, visibly glad he had decided to follow her...that he had let her pull him into this activity...that he trusted her with this. He trusted her with a part of him she had never seen before...perhaps a part that he was reluctant of showing...and yet, letting her see nonetheless.
She was unable to count all the scars that covered his chest, and though it twisted her heart just wondering how he had gotten them, specially that one that looked worse than the rest, the brightness in the girl's smile didn't falter. Not that she didn't care...the wish of wanting them to heal and of wanting him not to feel such pain was strong inside of her...She wanted to know everything about them...so she could stand by his side, without any secret between them...so she could support him. He was very important to her, and she wanted to see him happy...she wanted to see that not another scar would join all the many others. This wasn't the place or time, she knew... but at least she wanted to go near him and wrap her arms around him, to let him know that she wouldn't move from his side...and perhaps just for herself as well...to know that he was safe right now.
Safe and content. "Well, alriiiight! But, you'll come join me soon, rig-EEEEK!" The soft smile that had graced the girl's face just then contorted into a panicked expression, eyes widening, and body tensing, her skin turning pale considerably as she took a step forward, something snaking around her ankle. Suzu jumped almost comically, clumsily trying to move away from where she had been standing. "S-s-s-s-s-sea monster!" Feet tumbled with the sand; the waves softly crashed against her and then...splash! She was out of view.

Sai Sakurazaka, the Urban Legend of Oshu City "...You can trip as many times as you want; I will never let you fall..."Peaceful feelings inside the heart of the crimson-eyed young man melted into something much more serious, a shock of worry passing over him as the cheerful voice of the chestnut-haired girl and her playful teasing suddenly became a shriek, something terrifying to her wrapping itself around her leg and striking panic into her previously-excitable expression. She didn't even need to scream out the name of the beast that had touched her, and Sai was already halfway across the water between them by the time that the crashing of a wave suddenly took her out of his view and beneath the salty tide. He wasn't panicked so much as he was immediately on-edge, every possible explanation for her fright passing through his mind as he dove into the heart of the rolling crest of water and pierced through it like a knife, drawing within arm's distance of the place that he had last seen his companion. Even with a strong tide, she couldn't have gotten far without being drug by something else, but logic told him any larger monsters like an octopus or a shark would be partially-visible in the shallows, making the culprit evident for him. But they weren't the only things that could be dangerous on a beach, such as smaller fish and most unsettling of all, people who considered one or the both of them to be enemies. There was no fear of what might happen to him, however, and with the tension pooling in his fists, he was ready to take on whatever monster revealed itself to have threatened the person most important to him. They would regret having made such a grave error...if nothing else was certain from the moment that she screamed, that alone was unquestionable.
Diving beneath the surface once he was within range, he could see the now half-submerged form of the girl on her backside in the sand, the waves crashing just slightly below the level of her shoulders. She must have popped her head back up when he made his move, but that she was free made him thankful. One swift kick sent him sailing smoothly in her direction, one arm settling itself about the girl's waist while the other followed his eye towards the patch of darkness against her pale skin at the base of her ankle. That was the offender...and with a swiftness that was near-supernatural his fingers seized the accursed thing and drew it away from her, hoisting it dangerously into the air above him as he surfaced, violet hair dripping with salty water as a murderous gaze settled upon his now-prisoner. And if looks could kill, the thing would be dead in an instant. This monstrous, long, slimy...
"...Seaweed."
He had shifted to place Suzu behind him and held up the culprit before him, only now realizing the sheer ridiculousness of the last fifteen seconds and the panic that she had been experiencing (and made him experience by proxy) over this little seafloor teaser. Seaweed had brushed against her ankle and she had gone into a fright...and he had fallen right into it. Really? He supposed he should have guessed as much. A wave of mild annoyance, and then something almost akin to amusement filled him. Even if she hadn't meant it, she had managed to get him into the water after all, hadn't she?
"Suzume..." his voice was low, perhaps slightly chiding, but even then, tinted with his combination of ridiculous feelings. Only she could drag him into something this silly...and somehow leave him feeling better for it.

Suzume Kirihara What if that creepy, black thing with biiiig eerie red, beady eyes from that time in the Shrine had come back to drag her to the depths of the ocean never to be seen again? What if it was some kind of sea monster with loooong, sticky tentacles wanting to nom on her leg? What if it was one of those merepeople, wanting to pull her down, drown her and then eat her?! Wait... that only worked for sailors, didn't it? ... ... It didn't matter!
Despite all the silliness and unlikely scenarios, the brunette was scared. Panicked, better to say. She popped her head out of the water with a loud take in of air, and before she could splash her way out of the water, before she could move far enough, she saw just a flash of violet from the corner of her eyes, an arm circling around her waist, pulling her up. And with ridiculous speed, the girl climbed up her companion's back, clinging to him as if her life depended on it. Silence fell upon them so suddenly, making a great contrast with all the splashing and movement from just a few seconds before. It almost felt heavy...in a way. "W...what is it?" She finally managed, taking a peek from behind his shoulder, only to understand then the icy silence. What was trapped inside Sai’s hand was nothing more than...well...a piece of seaweed. Big, chestnut eyes stared at her attacker with rebuke, a bright red blooming on the girl's cheeks. And then she laughed. Melodious giggles flew with the light breeze as the girl slipped down her companion's back, moving to face him with a sheepish smile. "Pffffft- I am sorry, Sai... " she started between giggles, a hand moving over her eye to brush away a single tear. "I...I didn't mean to...to scare you like that. But that thing...that thing really scared me!" She took a step forward, the blush stubbornly tainting her cheeks. "Could you forgive me?" The girl did her best to calm herself down, her gaze landing on him once more. How silly must they have looked...soaked, hair dripping...scared by a plant. Still...she wasn't exactly feeling contrite. A playful grin slowly pulled at the corner of her lips as she gazed at her companion, almost as if only then realizing he was there with her in the water. "But..." She giggled again, her hands moving under the surface and suddenly forward, making the water fly about, splashing him slightly. "At least you are in here now, huh?"

Sai Sakurazaka, the Urban Legend of Oshu City "...You can trip as many times as you want; I will never let you fall..."In the end, he should have expected something like this to happen; as long as he had known her, Suzume was the only person who could consistently defy his expectations and deceive him into doing things that he hardly had the intention for...even if she didn't realize she was being deceptive at the time. It was downright criminal the way that she used those puppy-dog eyes of hers, really. Nonetheless, he found that he was still surprised at the way this particular incident turned out, and frankly, it left him exasperated...even so, he could hardly contain the tweak at the corner of his lips at her mischievous little grin once the fright had left her. Spooked by a piece of seaweed she had convinced herself was a sea monster; it was too ridiculous to see coming, wasn't it? Incidentally, the feeling of the girl letting herself down from his back and the sound of her small laughter, bringing the heightened tension back down to the level it had been at before the incident, it all served to fill him with a sense of something that was almost entirely foreign to him. All of the ridiculous coincidence, her impossible excitement and positivity, and that smile on her face combined to inspire something inside of him that he had rarely felt before. It was a warm feeling inside of his chest, a loose feeling that might have made him wonder if something had seriously gone wrong inside of his mind. And before he knew what he was doing, the violet-haired urban legend, a person of interest and fear in the cold city from where they had come, was peeling through the water and the offending splash from the brunette's soft hands and capturing her within his own strong, pale arms. They encircled her, pulling her closely and tightly against him, lifting her out of the salt-water basin and twirling her about him in what he had intended to be a chiding gesture...but only ended up being something nice, something warm. Something...fun?
His embrace brought her back down after a moment and pulled her into the water beside him, crimson eye never leaving hers despite his momentary lack of sanity. Had he really just caught her in the water, lifted her up and held her gently as he tackled her into the soggy sand beneath them? Was he really playing, if only just a little, as the waves crashed around their waists and her soft skin, kissed by the golden sun, glistened with shiny rivulets of the water dripping down from her shaggy, chestnut hair? It was so hard to see the scars that still lay within his eye when they were so obscured by his wet crown of hair...the lingering remnant of the wound upon his chest when she was crushed so affectionately against it. A forehead pressed against hers for a moment, even as the break pushed against her hip and his...his deep, calm voice broke the playful silence after a moment, though the rebuke he had intended never quite came. How could he be mad, even if she had lured him in here with such a trick (intentional or not), when everything about the moment felt so very nice? Without her, after all, none of this was possible...and he wouldn't have wanted to share it with anyone else, anyway.
"Forgive you, Suzume? I'm not that noble..." the teen let his lip curl just a little, a miniscule smirk that only she would likely be able to read, "...I've gotten myself wet to defend you from a weed." He didn't mention that it was natural to swim at the beach, or that his swimsuit was made to get wet in the first place. Nor did he mention the smoldering remnant ash of a weed, reduced to a living death from his burning stare, as it wafted off into the breeze and the distant horizon. None of those things bore mentioning out loud. They went unspoken, understood. Just the way he felt for her. "So, Suzume...for what reason should I forgive you?" he leaned a little closer, close enough to smell the ocean upon her lips...a moment suspended in time, before he might close the distance between his and hers...or perhaps indulge in a prank of his own. Anything was possible when they were together, or maybe that was just how he felt. And he had never felt that way without her.
She made him feel a lot of things he had never considered before. But he didn't have to say that and spoil the surprise of what came next, did he?

Suzume Kirihara A little prank like that was likely to get a reaction in return, and the brunette had been ready for anything that could come her way. And yet when arms pulled her close against his firm chest, lifting her from the water, she couldn't help the startled squeak followed by free laughter and light giggles. "He-hey!" the brunette managed between chuckles, her own arms wrapping around his shoulders to keep her balance. He had taken her off guard, surprising her like he always did, despite the claim she made of knowing him better than anybody else. She could identify most of his secret smiles and would know his gazes and gestures by heart and still…Always he managed to tug the corner of her smile wider, always made her happy with a display of rare playfulness. A playful tackle, the taste of salty water on her lips, the waves gently washing around them; his gaze upon her with a hidden amusement and his forehead gingerly pressing against hers in an affectionate sign...it all made the girl smile, her own eyes never leaving his, reflecting the enjoyment in their little game, in the day they were spending together. Not a single complaint escaped her lips, despite the water dripping from her hair or running down her spine and back down to the sea; she said nothing as he pressed her against him so tightly, so gently.
Chestnut eyes looked up at him, curious, happy, hoping. At his answer, she smiled sheepishly, knowing these weren't words meant to chastise, but some kind of secret, light quip that only the two of them could understand. "Well...I thought that perhaps you could because..." she trailed off, her orbs landing for a moment over his lips, his closeness distracting her from her thoughts, if only for a moment. She could tilt her head just a bit forward...just a tiny bit and their lips would brush against each other; a thought that had crossed her mind not for the first time ever since that time under the Inaba night sky. Still, her bright eyes turned back to him, as she kept completely still, her smile turning softer, a tad shy even. "...because getting wet wasn't such a bad turn of events, right? This is fun, don't you think? I know I like how things turned out..." the girl whispered softly, only for him. “Even if it was a bit silly.” The girl couldn’t help but adding, shrugging slightly, skin rubbing against skin softly. Another chuckle escaped her, and her eyes said everything words wouldn’t then…and just maybe, they playfully sent a silent challenge…that whatever his answer might be…she’d be ready this time.
