 Name: Catreena Bough (pronounced 'ca-TREE-nah' kinda like 'Katrina' but with a different spelling and her last name is pronounced 'BAO BOW', rhyming with 'now'.)
Nicknames: Treena? (Though she would not appreciate that, as that is her mother's name and it makes her feel old.)

Race: Tree Nymph (a.k.a. Dryad, 'Ptelea', tree spirit, kodama, etc.) of a Chinese Elm tree (Dryads are technically tree nymphs of Oak trees because 'drys' means 'oak' in Greek. Pteleai were nymphs of Elm trees.)
Natural Ability: Shapeshifting - From humanoid to a Chinese Elm tree in bloom.
Yes, this does render her immobile for a certain amount of time. However, during that time she can still feel what's going on around her through vibrations in the ground and if anyone is touching her. If you 'water' her, she'll be able to absorb the nutrients, but she can't taste, see, hear, or smell when in tree form.
She often uses it to hide (particularly from hunters, humans, and human-looking reapers with their horrible, sharp weapons...) but usually has to sneak a peek in order to tell if the coast is clear. This means that if you see a pair of eyes, a face, a leg, or a hand appearing from a tree to sense its surroundings, it's likely to be Catreena.
Personality:
Wallflower - Haha, yeah, bad pun. But Catreena is (as nymphs are generally known to be) really very shy and will frequently revert to her tree form when in an uncomfortable situation. Sadly she's so eager to get away from it all that she often doesn't stop to think about the fact that a tree appearing in the middle of the school hallway is likely to draw more attention than deflect it. She can't stand loud noises, music, or parties and will remain in her tree form until she can no longer feel any loud, deep vibrations through her roots.
Wary - This dryad trusts plants unconditionally. That's about it. She'll talk to them, sing to them, and tell them stories, but rare is the non-plant being who she will open up to. To Catreena, all humans, hunters, and even a lot of fellow Halloweentown citizens take plants for granted to the point that they'll trod upon a newly-sprung patch of grass or scratch their initials in a young tree's bark, scarring it for life without a second thought. Once in a while, though, she has come to notice the odd monster here or there that appreciates the shade of a leafy frond or actually takes the time to listen to the wind blowing through the dry leaves of an autumn tree. It is they who she will risk approaching if she must.
Doting - When Catreena grows fond of anything - be it plant, animal, person, or inanimate object - she will indulge it to the extreme. She'll do everything in her power to make sure it's comfortable and, possibly in some cases, worship it to the point of idolization. Please keep in mind this is possible for living beings, though rare, and due to the fact that Catreena is not used to having friendships with creatures that have mouths with which to protest uneasy feelings or unwanted treatment, she may not realize she's smothering, suffocating, or clinging to someone to the point of obsessive dependency. This has yet to happen, but there's always the potential for it. For now these feelings of adoration have only been showered among her plants (and, for the most part, distributed evenly, since she doesn't seem to play favorites so much as of yet).
Oblivious - See that short skirt? That exposed navel? Those sultry eyes? Think she may be 'coming on to you'? Think again. This girl just has no experience in her humanoid form among other humanoids. She's a tree spirit. She's lived the majority of her previous life as a tree. Do trees wear clothes? Nu-uh. Do they bother being bashful if they need to shed a few leaves or some bark? Nope. Catreena may be shy, but only if she feels there's a reason to be (usually out of fear). When it comes to things like appropriate clothing, gender differences, and chemical attraction, she's clueless. Someone might want to find some way to clue her in...or, y'know, she could just go around changing in the middle of the dorm hallways and stripping down to nothing when she feels like dancing in the rain. Oh, and, heh, if she's oblivious with the subtle body language she's unintentionally sending, one might need a neon sign to expect her to receive such messages in return. Just, whatever you do, don't pick her fresh flowers! |

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy?
To Catreena, almost all other beings aside from plants mean 'hurt'. They hurt each other physically, violently, emotionally, mentally...why bother even interacting with them? Well, her mother (another dryad) told her that living, moving beings are more than just horror stories and that she should seek them out for herself. Her mother sent her to school to learn about other sorts of monsters and such while safely kept away from the true terrors of humankind and hunters.
Catreena was fully against the idea at first, comfortable like most tree spirits to dwell in the safety and security of one familiar spot. However, her mother reminded her that plants can neither speak for themselves nor can they move, so if Catreena could speak for them and get more beings stop taking them for granted, perhaps it would benefit all plant life in ways they could not benefit themselves on their own. She just hadn't anticipated how terrifying it would be to meet and - worse - interact with other students at this new school.
FEAR Ability: (School of Fear: Supportive Ability; The Barrier)
Dense Thicket - Catreena can summon plant life/foliage/undergrowth to create a small thicket or tangle (like a brier patch or a small tangle of thorny vines) of living vegetation. What kind of plant she summons and the strength/durability of said plant will depend on her, and she may not be able to summon very strong plants her first year (poison oak, grape vines, sarsaparilla creepers, etc.) but later on she may learn how to call forth thick bushes, sapling trees, cacti, etc.
What's more is that if the plants are stricken, burned, cut down, or otherwise harmed/damage, she can feel their pain. (Whether or not her empathy towards plants and their pain should/will/can/ be a factor regarding the statistics of battle or not, I'm not sure, so I'll leave that to staff to decide. I just thought it would make sense ICly, if nothing else.)
Physical Description:
Eye Colour: Sage green; same as her hair color
Hair Colour/Style: Pale, sage green; long and flowing. Body-length and somewhat wavy. o_o
Skin Colour: Light tree-bark beige. Lips are a pink-coral color and eyelids seem to be the pale orange of Bird of Paradise flowers; this is make-up. Her cosmetics are probably composed of all-natural ingredients like shimmering pollen powder for eye-shadow and maybe something for blush (if that isn't natural blush). As for her lipstick, that may be natural as well, but it also reminds me of that sea-plant that Ursula the Sea-Witch used in The Little Mermaid movie to do her lipstick...
Clothing Style/Colours: Green and...leafy...? XD Her skirt kind of reminds me of lily pads and the flowers in her hair are like those trumpet flowers and birds of paradise... Specific flowers were used as reference, but as of yet they have not been identified. (I need to remember to look these up.)
Extra: Long, pointed ears and flowers growing out of her head along with her hair. Also, since I discovered her species of tree is a Chinese Elm, it's likely that her skin gets dry and flaky a lot just like the bark of her particular tree (which grows in deserts). She would need to have showers regularly not only for good hygiene, but in order to keep her flaky bark skin from flaking off her all the time and to keep the plants growing from her head watered (hence why she uses strictly organic herbal essence water to shampoo and condition rather than chemical substances).
