My computer is being an a*****e.

It needs some repairs and I may lose 3 months of photos... my heart is in a state of "OH GOD NO!" and mild crushing fear.

Im having issues with my lappy, backed up most things to a external, and been trying to do a factory restore, but my comp dosent seem to want to allow me to do a factory reset atm emo

Mine was 100% no warning, sudden crap. One second it was in sleep mode the next I woke it up and it was all death.....

Is there any form of booting at all? like can you boot into safe mode, or the bios?

Ive kinda managed to fix some of my problems by working with the processor and system cooling, but now that means over heating...but Ive ordered a cooling fan, so hopefully that will work

A say you get a portable hard drive and safe everything you want to it when you get it working.

I had a panic mode on my computer two month back where my fan started smoke a bit. x.x It was so scary. I let it cool down and cautiously turned it back on. I sat down and transferred all my files on to my boyfriend's computer.
My animation teacher's always tell me to back up my files on 3 different things.

I hope it starts working!

Yep the rule is back up, back up, back up, and even if you have automated back ups you should still get in a habbit of backing up just in case.

I usually back up once a month but I have negelcted to do so since August ; 0;

Also this computer is about 4 months old tops. :/

It lets me into the set up and bios but I dunno what to do with that. Also I have a Ubuntu Live CD that it'll boot up.

In the bios can you go to "recovery" and then do a system restore, or at least a backup? Who is your comp made by?

Hmm non standard machines push my nerd knowledge.

But yeah if you cant use menus in bios, or boot to safe mode, or if f8/f10/f11 does nothing (depending on your comp set up) then Im not sure.

I just saved everything on my USB drive earlier this morning, actually. I agree with everyone else, backup is essential.
I would be so depressed if I lost everything. My computer is my life in the fact that it has all my personal writings, photos, photos of friends, etc.
Here's to hoping you don't lose anything. smile
