Room Effect
Rolling a 5: ALL PLAYERS AT ANY POINT CAN FORFEIT THEIR ATTACK TO ROLL 2d12. If you roll odd, you do this damage to your opponent. If you roll even, you do this damage to YOURSELF - no modifier, you can ONLY DO THIS ONCE. You feel an uneasy unsettling feeling, as if something is coming, but you can't place what or when.

It was really and truly an absolute personal travesty that only a week or so after getting lost in the hallways in attempt to hide from the snow, Belladonna once again found herself in an unfamiliar hallway.
"Ooooh no!" Her voice rang out between the walls as she threw herself into a run, as though that could save her from the inevitable. "Nope! Nope, nope, nope. You are not sending me back there! Do you know what happened last time? Ok, well actually the last time wasn't so bad... But the time before that. Do you know?!"
Actually, it wasn't at all clear who she was talking to. The frustration was supposedly directed at the hallway itself (traitorous creature it was to toss her so carelessly into harm's way!), but if there was some cosmic force that ran the school and happily tossed its occupants into harm's way, that being was currently addressed in this specific rant. But that would make far too much sense, so the witch ignored it in favor of shouting some more as she hurried down the hallway.
"Do not even dare! Do not even-- EEEEEK"

Oh. Oh well suddenly the floor became stairs that Belladonna found it appropriate to completely miss and therefore suffer a brief moment of weightlessness as she fell. Thankfully, the inside of the Haunted House rose up to met her so that she landed face down on a wooden floor. One pink eye dared to peek out around at the room she found herself in, brightly colored in a muted manner, as though a scareling's room had been amped up in contrast and then covered in a semi-transparent film so that the whole room, with its big blocky shapes and furniture, looked aged despite its colorful colors.
Instead Belladonna thumped her forehead against the floor with a groan.
"Jack dammit."

What is this place?

It was a hypothetical question of course, it wasn't like Thane knew anymore than she did; that much the trainee had gathered after endless questions pinged at her partner, whose limited responses were often clipped and annoyed as it was. They'd also of course received the same information about the area: a neutral area that had been on the fritz since Halloween and therefore needed constant patrolling in case suspicious activity was found - granted, there had been a small lockdown around Christmas with patrols lasting in shorter shifts, so maybe there was a modicum of courtesy extended to Hunters who found the routine more than a little risky.

But in any case there Stormy was, a little girl in a big spooky house, who was immediately greeted with the sound of a girl screaming not two steps in. The trainee backpedaled with a yelp as Thane hissed in her head.

< < Right from the get go, then. Get on it, Hatchling. > >

Swallowing, she summoned the greatsword and tried to head towards where the sound had originated from, hoping it wasn't another illusion - or maybe hoping it was, she wasn't sure which was better at this point. But the voice carried on after a bit, so eventually the trainee was able to find the specific room after a series of thumps alerted her. Stormy opened her mouth to ask if the stranger was still okay as she entered the room, but froze when she saw all the pink.

. . . Okay she should've figured a hunter wouldn't be incompetent enough to shriek and fall down stairs. That was just her, as her partner pointed out.

Shutting her mouth with a soft gasp of surprise, Stormy held her weapon out and took a step back. On the floor didn't mean defenseless - she'd seen this one attacking Jake pretty fiercely last time. Thane was heavily disagreeing with her hesitation, but she wouldn't be goaded - not when it felt like there were invisible eyes watching them, judging them from somewhere in the room. It was oppressive and made her feel as though something was coming to get her, a feeling she should have been used to but still felt sweaty-palmed about.

"Stay down," she tried to order the student, though her quiet voice lent nothing to it.

How had she found herself here again? Why was she going through with this? She told herself for what felt like the millionth time now that it was necessary, that she needed to do this, just to prove that she could. The Haunted House had been a place where horrible things had happened to her, and where she had done some pretty terrible things as well, but this time things were going to be different. This time the only voice she would listen to would be her own, and not the ones telling her to come home, not the whispers that hissed and goaded and enticed.

It had taken some time for her to find the opening, the way to the Haunted House through the school. She had gotten there once before, but had not known just how difficult it could be to find, as a student had led the way before and she had not realized that the way always changed. The other times had always been by portal, but she wanted to do this herself, without permission from Medea, without unwillingly becoming sucked into some random portal.

It was as though her need eventually guided her to where she needed to go, and she was finally there. She approached the house cautiously, eyes darting. She made her way to the door and opened it slowly before slipping silently inside. She let her golden gaze flicker around, taking in fog shrouded surroundings, her breath slow and steady and careful as she concentrated on keeping herself centered, on keeping the voices reigned in and under control, on making sure she remembered who she was, and where she came from, and that the home that the voices bid her to come to was not where she belonged.

A scream that seemed to tear through the air, making her cringe with a knitted brow and gritted teeth, shattered any inner peace she might have found and seemed to awaken the voices more, their incessant hissing slithering through her mind. A dagger was gripped in one solid grey hand instantly, and she began to move towards the noise, through the fog, around figures made of mist that she resolutely ignored. Her hand gripped a doorknob, the door was thrown open.

And she found herself standing at the top of a set of stares, a girl with red hair sprawled on the floor below, and another girl, a human girl.

Hunter.

Shaheen's eyes narrowed instantly and with a beat of her wings she found herself at the bottom of the stares, gaze fixated on the white jacketed form. She recognized this one, oh yes. She had attacked Lifen. Shaheen had been ready to retaliate, her blade ready for blood when things had changed rapidly, and Medea had brought back many of their lost, and she had lost the girl within the chaos that had followed.

Lucky for her.

"Get up." She demanded of the red headed girl with a slight growl in her voice, another who was familiar but whom she could not at this moment place. Her eyes flickered towards her briefly before finding themselves locked on the hunters once more. Was she alone? Were there more lurking about? Was she one of their leaders? Her attack on Lifen had certainly seemed to be dealt with quite a bit of prowess and strength...

But did it even matter? Shaheen would not have backed down regardless of the answer.

"Hunter." She spat, grey streaked wings spreading behind her, dagger raising. "Today does not appear to be a fortunate one for you. Are you prepared to meet your god?"

It was nice to see she hadn't completely lost her cocky confidence.

This wasn't real life.
This wasn't what actually happened when not in the crazy, topsy turvy house that little home between worlds provided. It couldn't be, because otherwise the witch would never, ever in a million years be ordered about by a Hunter and then a Hosreman. It simply wasn't possible!
But as Belladonna pushed herself up into a sitting position so that she could level a harsh gaze at the little girl who dared tell her to stay, she realized that yes, actually that most likely would have happened whether she wanted it to or not. For a second she sat there and frowned at them both before she hopped up onto her heels and clattered noisily about, mostly in place, as she flapped her hands at them.
"Stay down, get up! Jack be damned in the seven hells, you two are an opposite lot!" Blanket statements were always the absolute best way to begin conversations. Obviously.
Still, what to do, what to do! Both ghouls were obviously lovely in their own regard, though that Hunter had a few marks against her for blowing up the pretty green Horselady, but... That blonde Horsewoman was awfully scary, what with her happy insistence that Humans should die. What to do, what to do, indeed.

Oh! Of course!
"What are your names? I haven't met either of you formally and it would be a shame to get all sorts of tangled up without proper names!" Because if one brought a Hunter and a Horseman into the mix, things would get messy and Belladonna was nothing if not curious what she should be calling someone as she tried to keep things from getting too out of hand though she was really quite ruffled with them both for ordering her around. At least she could keep that little bit to herself for the time being.

"I'm Belladonna, by the way. Oh, well, Belladonna Divine I suppose..." She clapped her hands together as a single card filed silently from one of her skirt pockets to take position in the space in front of her stomach. She happily turned to the Hunter, as though this were an actual conversation and not a tense meeting she happened to be caught in the middle of. "I met a friend of your's, I believe. He was so reticent to give me his last name! As though I could do anything with it!" She tittered a laugh and wiggled her fingers at the girl. "I do so hope you'll be more forthcoming!"
Wait, was she trying to be so transparent? Whatever the case, she fluttered in her little area for a second before she smiled at the Horsewoman who was... Significantly taller and therefore required a smile that was tilted up.
"You and I, on the other hand, have met a time or two. It is lovely to finally make your acquaintance." Why not make the best of a sticky situation! It was, after all, vastly more fun to play the middle lady in a rather tense faction war and see what she could glean. Honey attracted more things than vinegar, as the saying went, and she was fully prepared to be as sickeningly sweet as possible.

The red headed girl was incredibly chatty, her voice niggling away at Shaheen's subconscious which continued to try and place her even now while the War woman's eyes were still locked on the hunter, still unwilling to look away for even a second. As she did so the witch continued to ramble on and on and on, and it was actually becoming a bit difficult to ignore her, her head tilting away from the sound of her voice, her brows drawing down.

With a sigh, and a fluid movement done so quickly it would have been very difficult to follow, Shaheen flicked her wrist, letting her weapon fly towards the hunter, her aim straight and true before she turned her head to snap at the female student.

"Are you about finished?" Her wings flared behind her. The girl was speaking to this hunter like it was some kind of being worth conversing with, like she could make it into her friend.

She was probably one of those idiotic DETH followers. Great. Just ******** fantastic.

"Names. Are not. Important. If you are one of those that is sensitive towards humans, then I suggest you leave imme---" And then, that was when her subconscious struck, providing her with vivid memories of when she had seen this girl before. She had ran that so called fashion booth, and had proven to be less then useless with a throwing dagger, though she had seemed oddly excited over her prize to mark her failure, which had been a simple feather.

Her wings snapped closed behind her. If this girl so much as thought of touching any of her feathers, she was likely to lose all of her fingers. And maybe even her cute little nose as well.

"Immediately." She finished, pretending like she hadn't taken any pause at all.

The crystal shard on the bangle around her left arm seemed to glow faintly from behind murky grey depths, chasing away some of the mutedness with a warm yellow.

And while they spoke, Stormy just stood there like an idiot. There was a horseman there. A horseman. A tall horseman who looked diseased and angry and oh dear God -

< < Defend yourself! > > her partner hissed, spying the fluid motion the tanned creature effected before his wielder could. Stormy yelped at the blow to her shield and stumbled back, barely managing a nick in return; Thane felt unwieldy in her hands, so off guard was she by the conversation.

On the one hand, the super pink chick was going on like everything was just fine and dandy, and on the other the horseman was threatening to kill her - no, more than threaten judging by the force behind her attack. Crap. Crap. How did she always become bait for the weirdest situations? Next she'd be summoning another gas monster.

Stormy flitted her gaze between them, confused and wary and frightened all at once. She should've brought a partner, she should've known better . . .

< < Get it together, Hatchling! > > The growl made her wince but she straightened up, sucking in a breath to calm herself. She still had her pendant, so if things did get bad she had a way out.

"Um . . . Miss Divine, this, um, isn't really the time?" she replied, holding her weapon defensively, the paranoid sensation heightening her senses and making her shake. She was talking about Jake, wasn't she. God help her if she gave anything about the guy. "What're you two doing here anyway?"

At least she tried to gather information.

Seriously. They were seriously not going to give their names? Jack damn, it was like pulling teeth with these people!
The witch huffed a sigh and folded her arms under her chest, pouting pointedly at both Horseman and Hunter. How was it that Halloween was the most polite of the three groups and still the ones not at all trusted? Where they both get off being so high and pompous when neither of them would exist without the other or Halloween.
"Sensitive to humans? Only in the respect that we need them, whether you like it or not."
As for the Hunter, she turned to her and gave a tiny smile.
"Miss Divine! How quaint!" For the span of two seconds she considered attacking, but retracted the card. The Horsewoman was already well on the path to that and if she destroyed the darling girl before the witch got to ask questions...

"Don't you think, perhaps it would be best... To ah, not demolish this Hunter? At least not right away? You know, get some answers from her first?" The witch offered with a flap of her hand at the taller ghoul. Because yes obviously this was a fabulous idea!

"Of course I know we need them." She narrowed eyes at the witch and raised an eyebrow as though to say 'I'm not stupid'.

"Billions of humans inhabit the earth. They are like our cattle. This." She gestured towards the hunter. "Is only one of many, and a hunter." The last word was snarled, and the horsewoman took a step to the side almost nonchalantly as the girls sword glanced off of her shoulder. Clumsy. Absolutely clumsy and pathetic. There was no way she was of any importance.

That was only slightly disappointing.

"None of them deserve a chance, none of them deserve to live. Do you know how much Fear can be garnered from one human just before they die? Do you know how sweet of a sensation it is, to feel that energy running into you, empowering you?" Her golden eyes almost seemed to glow, and with another flick of her wrist, without even looking at the hunter, her dagger flew once more, though it was only meant to graze.

"Again, either help, or leave. You don't want to get in my way."

The hunter that was the topic of conversation was all but ignored by the Chieftain at this point. If the girl had any back up, it would have arrived by now.

"I think you should try what we do, just once. I bet you'd be surprised by how much you enjoy it" Her lips curled up into a smirk.

They were just . . . They were ignoring her. Stormy would have been fine with that - hell, it would have been prime time to warp out and rethink how she approached any mission from now on. But she didn't. Instead the trainee stood there with her weapon at the ready, flinching as the dagger nicked her shield and flew past her shoulder but otherwise staying quite still and silent. Her own passive nature wasn't being riled, and yet . . . Thane was doing something. An influence of some kind.

< < No trickery, Hatchling: this is simply what happens when others deem you weak, > > he stated in the strangest of purrs, still cold in reference to her but somehow also inviting instead - inviting in the manner of a solution following harsh criticism. < < Have you forgotten why you joined to be a Hunter? Do you wish to stay soft and silent as a mewling scrap of flesh while they cut you down like nothing? > >

But I can't -

< < Can't what, defend yourself? Did I choose a coward for a wielder? > > His words were like sharp claws scoring her raw mind. < < You have a new life now, little ghoul, now fight for it! > >

They kept talking and deriding her presence like parents talking in front of not even the child but the family puppy and the ominous feeling kept pressing on her until she wanted to curl up and turn invisible and the word death kept circling in her mind as she thought of all the times she had screwed up or failed or died or nearly died and wondered how true the horseman's words really were - but her partner's words sparked her to sudden life. A spark of what could have been indignant anger entered the normally placid teen's eyes as she hefted the greatsword and, without a word, charged the horseman with a mighty swing. There was something odd about the attack she realized a split second afterwards: Thane was somehow lighter in her hands, less cumbersome, more direct - like her anger had literally lent her the power to command her weapon with proficiency more like a Hunter who had far more experience.

The sensation was a touch heady for the pair, fleeting as it was. Stormy leaped back, her expression tighter as her partner hissed with pleasure at the taste of Fear. "We are not cattle," she stated with more bravado than she had ever felt, even as her tone remained level as ever. "Humans are more like dogs. Still plenty of them in the world, some gross and some cute and some just kinda bald, but we Hunters have packs and we have a bite."

She didn't like this, the idea of genocide and bloodshed and violence making her sick. She only fought because there were many who couldn't.

"Cattle is a really terrible word for a whole race of people, you know..." The witch pointed out with a sigh. Did every Clans member act like they owned all the jackdamned worlds?
Still somewhat dismayed to be unable to coerce either of them into giving her their names, the witch was forced to come up with rather silly ones on her own. Mostly so she could keep them separate in her mind and assign them some sort of value beyond 'Really tall blonde Horselady' and 'Cute but scared looked hunter girl'. Yet all these internal thought of names and the importance of being polite, especially across faction, was cut short with the addendum of 'Really tall blonde Horselady who is still kind of blood thirsty'. The gaze the witch found herself the recipient of was uncomfortable to say the least, and it made her take a few hesitant steps backwards.
"Errr... No, ah, I am... Not familiar with that particular sensation..." Yet a few moments later her hands rose up in front of her and hastily swept from side to side though her palms remained pointed at the Horsewoman.
"Try it?! Oh no, no, noooo. I am adventurous on my own but that is... That is a bit off my range, I'm afraid." Naturally it was now that she was getting all befuddled and confused, now that she was once again in the middle of this odd little skirmish.

Which was apparently still going on, evidenced by the sudden charge of the girl. The witch hastened backwards and regretted it as the Hunter's weapon sliced into the horsewoman instead.
"What a darling analogy..." She mused as she side stepped to the girl and tilted her head to one side. "But as much as I hate to be rude, you're still a dog." And since one hit deserved another, Belladonna reached forward and slapped the girl.
"Now, you can either be good and talk to us, or you can keep making odd comparisons. And most likely loose. Do Hunters die here at the Haunted House? Or do they get warped back home too?" Whatever harsh tone she had taken immediately turned curious and more laced with sugar as she posed her questions, her frustration seemingly forgotten in the quest for information.

Shaheen's conversation with the witch came to an abrupt end when the hunter spoke, reminding the woman of war, possibly quite foolishly, that she still existed. The cheiftain turned her head towards her slowly, giving her a long, suffering, oh my god are you actually going to defend the human race by comparing them to dogs look.

And then very suddenly a sword was being swung at her, and she snapped to attention, just barely raising her dagger up to attempt to deflect the blow that seemed to be impossible to dodge, it's strength crashing into her, and sending her reeling backwards, her Fear shield taking the brunt of the hit though she knew she was going to be feeling that one later.

Okay, so maybe the pathetic mewling human thing was just an act. Maybe the girl could actually fight.

Shaheen began to straighten back up, her dagger flashing in her hand again, her wings flexing, spreading slightly and folding behind her repeatedly as though getting ready for something as her eyes narrowed dangerously. The witch got a few points in her favor for the slap she sent at the hunter, but then Shaheen quickly found herself confused as the girl began speaking again.

What...what was this? Were they on some kind of break? Had somebody raised the white flag when she hadn't been looking? The hunter had asked what they were doing there (a question Shaheen had ignored completely) and now the witch asked her if she could die?

"I think there is an easy way to find out." She supplied, her dagger beginning to glow at her side as her wings spread fully behind her, likely brushing against Belladonna's hair for just a second. From behind the hunter, the girl might have heard a low growling noise, and if she turned to look she might have seen the flash of golden eyes staring at her from within a shadow, it's other features hardly recognizable until one massively large and tawny paw streaked with grey moved out from the darkness, followed by a feline face, hunched shoulders, a face set in a sharp tooth filled snarl.

Just the distraction the chieftain needed before she launched herself forward with a sweeping beat of her wings, her dagger raised in two hands, her voice ringing out and through the air, stereo'd by the lioness's growl as she swung down with her blade.

Fear coursed through her and into her crystal, strengthening her, making her feel things besides anxiety and doubt. Revenge. Anger. This began to over ride everything else. This hunter had attacked Lifen, her friend, a woman she held a great amount of respect for.

This hunter was going to pay.

Striking out seemed like a bad idea in hindsight. A horrible idea really, now that she was slapped. A really horrible idea when she heard the growl. A really terribly awfully bad idea when the horseman launched at her with a gleaming dagger that cut through her shield like butter; the trainee swore she felt the sharp edge against her skin as she shrieked in pain and stumbled back. There was no time or mind to retaliate this time, all efforts diverted to keeping her from crumbling under the force of the attack, her greatsword suddenly slow and heavy as a rock as he energy was drained; if the horseman kept her onslaught up, Stormy was sure she'd die.

But Thane's goading had gotten to her. The spark had dimmed considerably, but it wasn't gone. Stormy didn't want to leave without showing she could make something of herself. And since the red haired one kept going on about her name . . . "I-It's Stormy," she finally conceeded in an anxious stammer, ignoring the other questions about deaths and Hunters because it was too confusing to her as it was. One eye shut in a tight wince as she tried to put distance between her and the now mounted horseman.

What a misnomer. She was staring at a lion slfkjalksdjflajf

Never before had the witch been in such an exasperating situation. Never in the entirety of her life had she been in the presence of two equally stubborn and relentless persons (sisters and family notwithstanding). This fight didn't even have a clear point besides "grrr I hate you let's fight!". And that was really no way in which to conduct oneself. Even the addition of the Hunter's name only won her a momentary smile before they were back to fighting.
It was stupid to get so upset and frustrated with such ridiculous and obviously lacking in some sort of higher thought, but the witch was pretty much done. Every other time she'd encountered either Horseman or Hunter she'd been able to talk with them, get them to stop for long enough to get something from the encounter. The same was not happening today and she was getting frustrated.
"You two are being ridiculous!!" Belladonna finally shouted at them, angrily stomping to place herself directly in the middle. "Do either of you even know what you're fighting for?" Ohhh insensitive question. "What I mean is... I know what you're fighting for..." She gestured gently toward the Horsewoman, a softer expression momentarily smoothing her frown. "But think about it better... Why rush out and try to demolish her? She's one Hunter and I doubt you would even fully kill her in this moment. They have a nasty way of coming back..."
Her next gesture was a jerky one at Stormy.
"And you... Stormy! A most interesting name for a human, mostly they're names are so boring. But what about you? Why fight? It cannot be so hardwired in you that you would immediately jump to fight when you should know that Halloween doesn't die so easy."
Surely they would listen to reason and rational and sense! Right?
