"Lovey, wait!" the girl laughed, chasing down her companion as the tiny creature sped along, weaving in and out of people's legs as she played. Though it was terribly inconvenient and horribly embarrassing to be chasing her Pokemon through such a crowded place, she couldn't help but smile; the sun was shining, the air was warm-- well, warmer than it had been for the past several weeks.

It certainly wasn't weather to swim in, she mused, following Lovey as she dashed away from the crowds, down a longer, much older dock. Once she caught her, the young model swore she wouldn't set her down again, at least, not when she was in such a playful mood, especially not somewhere like this. She continued following her, stepping carefully but quickly over the creaking boards below her feet. For now, she would just play along, knowing that if she allowed the young eevee to play her games now, she would wear herself out and give the girl a full night's rest.

What she didn't anticipate, however, was Lovey catching her paws on a puddle of water and slipping, the fall sending her tumbling into the rolling waves below. "Lovey!"

Though she took care to follow on boards that seemed sturdy, the girl quickly found herself unsteady on her feet, gasping at the cracking sound beneath her.

At least now she understood why there hadn't been anyone on this particular dock.

The sight of an Eevee running past accompanying by the chasing voice of its trainer evoked a bittersweet nostalgia for the redheaded boy who had once chased an excitable Flareon in much a similar manner. Luke watched the pair as they went, tracing their path with green eyes that reflected a slight weariness. He had been encouraged to begin simple exercise such as brief walks around town around two weeks after his release from the hospital's surveillance, and the piers seemed a fine place to do so with the weather subtly warming - though the ocean waters in their own right looked quite positively frigid. He was content to take a short rest leaning on the railing of the main boardwalk and watching the movement of the water, though the forms of the Eevee-trainer pair as their chase continued down one of the extending piers was a more compelling point of interest.

This period of repose, however, was short-lived as the boy instinctively straightened to attention in response to the Eevee's unfortunate slip over the side of the pier. He watched alertly as he waited for the trainer's next move, expecting her to maybe recall the little normal-type into its pokeball, but as he continued to observe it quickly became obvious that things were going significantly more awry than they initially appeared. Actually, were people even allowed to walk on that pier? It looked old and kind of rickety--

Rickety enough, in fact, that Luke didn't want to wait to watch what happened next before moving himself in the direction of the suspect pier and the imminent threat it posed. He couldn't imagine his cardiologist approving of this, but then that wasn't exactly the most prominent thought in is head at the moment.

The sound of some girl calling after her pokemon - because only a pokemon (an unfortunate one at that) would possibly be named Lovey - went completely ignored by Seraphine. Instead, the brunette was busy (window) shopping along that particular section of the boardwalk, frowning at sales she couldn't afford anymore. Why did she window shop again?

She held a particular jacket up and turned to see it better in the light - no, she didn't like this particular color - and when she raised her gaze in passing curiosity her attention instead focused on a familiar person walking rather quickly towards the docks. Sera furrowed her brows briefly - didn't he just have surgery? What was he doing hurrying anywhere? - before frowning and putting the jacket back. With that done she moved to get a better view. She'd completely missed the Eevee fall into the water, but she did see the girl looking like she was going to start flailing at any second. Huh, funny.

Dove fought to steady herself as the dock below her cracked and groaned, her eyes frantically searching both the docks for a safer place to move and the waters for Lovey.

The tiny eevee was struggling to stay at the top of the water, now further away from the supports of the dock, the waves carrying her back and forth. Panic swept through the trainer as she watched the Pokemon disappear beneath the surface, then reappear, pawing at the air helplessly.

She moved her foot, hoping for at least a few more minutes of stability, but to no avail; as she cried out for help, the dock gave way below her, sending her through the jagged boards into the sea below.

The dock lurched on its supports, and Luke hastened from his hurried walk into a run for a short distance, until he realized the folly of running out onto a dock that was clearly unstable. He stopped short of the splintered planks, discolored from years of exposure to the sea's elements, and he plucked the premier ball hastily from his side. The pokemon that emerged, a uniquely feathered Pidgeot of green and white, understood in a moment that her summoning was as a mount, and she knelt to allow her trainer to ride. The pair were quickly at the end of the dock, hovering as best the flying-type was capable over the water - this was all quite familiar to Leste, who recalled a similar effort to save a fallen Emil long in the past.

Luke leaned into the large bird's body, reaching his arm between her neck and wing in a failing effort to take the girl's hand. It was with a sharp pain that he recalled his circumstances and became aware of the quickly increasing ache radiating throughout him. All the little warnings and reminders about activity and exertion and stress resurfaced in his thoughts simultaneously. Nearing a panic, he looked back towards the boardwalk to see if anyone was calling for emergency services, but it was hard to tell. Hesitant on how next to act, he mustered his voice and called into the water, "Can you hear me? Are you hurt?" The water was cold and choppy, and he was doubtful that anyone would be able to swim through it well after being unexpectedly and unceremoniously dumped into its depths.

Sera wasn't completely sure, but she had a sneaking suspicion that running like that so soon after having such a serious surgery wasn't the best idea. But then, neither was falling through an old dock and into the water. Seriously? That dock had been off-limits for ages. When were they going to rip it out and replace it? Maybe they would now that someone had gone and fallen through it like an idiot.

Oh, wait, right. She should probably do something. Be helpful or something, maybe. If she had to.

The brunette jogged over to the beginning of the dock but did not, like that girl and Luke had, step onto it. This girl was staying on safe, dry land (boards, whatever), thank you very much. Though she realized, once she got there and stopped, she wasn't at all sure what she was supposed to do. Such a situation hadn't ever happened to her before, nor had she ever considered what to do in such emergencies, so instead of doing anything really at all helpful she raised her hands to her mouth in the hopes it would carry her voice a little further. "Luke!" What happened? No, she'd seen what happened. What are you doing? He was obviously being dumb after surgery, duh. What should I do? Why the hell would she ever ask anyone that?

Breaking the surface and gasping for air, the young woman looked around in panic, the icy waters pushing and pulling her at their will. As they attempted to draw her under again, Dove grabbed for something--anything!-- that could help keep her afloat. After a few moments of flailing blindly reaching, she grabbed onto a floating piece of the fallen dock, scrambling to settle herself over it as she again started to look for Lovey.

The pokemon was too far away for her to reach, and already the low temperature of the water was numbing her body. She clung to the piece of dock, forcing her legs to move her in the direction of the struggling eevee and out from under the crumbling structure, stopping only as she heard a voice. She turned her head, curling in toward the plank to stay afloat. "I-I'm okay! B-But my eevee--"

As she lifted her arm to direct the boy's attention to the pokemon, she froze, the color draining from her face, the sound of splintering wood cracking behind her.

At the sound of his name, Luke turned and spotted Seraphine standing at the edge of the dock. He cupped his hands at his mouth similarly to amplify his reply, "Call someone!" Exactly who that 'someone' was, he wasn't really sure. Ambulance, police, some kind of city coast guard business - whatever, anything would be better than what they had at the moment, which equated to a whole lot of nothing.

Green eyes moved to the Eevee at its mention. It was still afloat, but it was subject to the ocean's whims; there was no guarantee how much longer it would be able to remain above the surface. Luke's team of pokemon weren't exactly configured for this kind of situation, but he didn't have very long to dwell on this or conceive a solution before his attentions were distracted by the chilling sound of the pier beginning to give way. "Get away from the dock!" he warned, gesturing widely with an arm. A word to Leste encouraged the Pidgeot to take hold of the girl's impromptu flotation device and pull it further towards safety, but the bird reeled back in defiance. The structure would collapse at any second, and she didn't want to risk pinning herself or her weakened rider under its debris.

At Luke's response she nodded, feeling better knowing what to do--

Except that lasted all of two seconds before she realized she had no idea who she was supposed to call. Well this was frustrating. She frowned out at the scene in the water, hearing a vague creak and seeing the dock move but she didn't think it would do much more than that.

Regardless, she took out her phone and set about looking at it uncertainly, her fingers hovering over it but not doing anything yet. Who was she supposed to call?! The police? Pfft. Since when had they done anything helpful?

Dove kicked her legs, trying in vain to escape the collapsing dock. Her legs strained against the cold water, her body unwilling to do her bidding. Again she sought her companion as she forced herself through the water, spotting her as another wave sent her tumbling. At least she was out of range of the falling platform.

As the groaning of the dock grew louder, Dove pushed herself to get away. However, just as the girl started to believe she might be able to clear it's landing, a wave swept the log out from under her and sent her rolling below the surface, the dock slamming down above her.

There was a wide variety of thoughts that, speaking reasonably, should have prevented Luke from acting as he did: He dismounted from the Pidgeot and dove into the ocean water, plummeting after the disappearing girl. The water was ice to the touch, enveloping him in what felt as frigid needles. Watching the movement of the tumbling dock as best he could through the winter murk, he reached a hand out to the stranger, attempting to seize her arm.

Leste was distressed. Her panicked emotional state, however, did not give her any ability to go after him in any way, and she could only circle the place into which her trainer had disappeared. This only made her more restless, so she decided to put herself to use and moved to fish the buffeted Eevee out of the water.

Sera had just dialed and was about to call the police - grudgingly, of course - when Luke suddenly dove off his Pidgeot. She inhaled sharply before her hands fell to her sides in exasperation. Seriously? Like... seriously? What the holy freaking hell was he thinking?! Ugh.

The brunette instead turned to a few gawking bystanders. "You call someone!" She shouted as she shoved her phone back and instead pulled out two pokeballs, releasing a Metang and a Zoroark simultaneously. "Get Luke and that girl out," she ordered quickly, pointing to the place the pair disappeared, over which Leste was circling.

Mordecai sped off at once, while Jacques offered Sera a cheeky salute before he bounded down the slanted dock and dove into the water, while the Metang hovered above, ready to pull anyone out. Jacques shuddered underwater but his fur at least helped a little bit, and he dove down to get to the pair. After a quick assessment of the situation, he twisted around and flailed an arm under the dock, trying to grab hold of Dove's arm to pull her out.

Meanwhile, back on the boardwalk, Sera had loosed Luna next while one or two of the bystanders called an ambulance.

The moment Dove disappeared under the water, she panicked, gasping under water as the dock came crashing down, slamming onto the surface and making her already blurred vision go black.

Though all of her senses had stopped working for the better part, the girl did feel someone...something....

A dark blurred figure and a flash of red were the last things she saw as she passed out.

Well, he was definitely going to die. Every faculty was numbed by an overwhelming, all-encompassing pain, but Luke was nothing if not determined to assure the girl's safety. Fortunately, there was soon another presence near him, evidently working towards the same goal as he, and their combined efforts would loose the apparently unconscious girl from her ensnarements.

Leste, meanwhile, made short work of carrying her small, living parcel gently to stable ground, depositing the Eevee beside Seraphine and her Rapidash before returning to the small underwater congregation in hopes of offering her assistance when they surfaced, crowing in loud distress all the while.

When the soaking wet Eevee was left on the ground, the Rapidash lowered her head and gently nudged the normal-type with her soft muzzle, the flames dipping down her forehead providing plenty of warmth.

When the boards loosened, it gave the Zoroark a much clearer view of the trapped girl, and he reached in to pull the unconscious human out. Once in his grip, he pushed off the sunken dock to propel himself to the surface, and as soon as he was there he tried to hold Dove up as best he could, barking at one of the hovering pokemon to hurry up and take her because he couldn't keep this up forever.
