and ѕo тнe ѕтory goeѕ...

Sixteen years ago, a group of scientists started a new project. A project to change life as we now it. A project to create new kinds of life. New kinds of life where people could live there fantasy of being truly unique and different. They called it L.I.F.E. Each letter didn't really have it's own meaning. These scientists were obsessed with making new kinds of life. They wanted to be revolutionary. They had everything planned out. They knew what kinds of life they were going to make. They knew how they were going to make and with out. They women hired and on stand by to get embryos to work on. With each failure, they kept their hopes high. With each year was a different story. Finally, exactly sixteen years ago today, they created the perfect new life. The girl was beautiful. She had perfectly round, big eyes. She had an innocent and pure heart. This girl could survive without food or water. A perfect being who could survive in any kind of drastic temperatures but still feels hot and cold. The young creature had one or two flaws at most.

But, she wasn't as perfect as they thought. After the seemingly perfect girl turned ten years old, they started to notice a change in her. She started to become rather bipolar. She gained insomnia and instead of the sweet, innocent girl the scientist had raised... She was starting to develop flaws. Flaws they didn't want. Her flaws escalated from her simply getting hurt easily to cold, rebellious behavior and creepy habits such as trying to poke people's eyes out. So, they took her somewhere that was far, far away. They didn't want her anymore and the scientists no longer wanted anything more to do with the L.I.F.E project.

They took her to the middle of remotes forests in Australia. There, they dug a hole with a cage on top of it. They threw the girl down into the 10 foot deep hole with concrete walls. They gave her the bunny stuffed animal they had given her when she was born and a blanket. That was it. They put a barred cage door with thick, steel bars and a lock on the hole then left her in the middle of no where. They made a mistake of not covering the barred door with something because now, six years later, a young man is out exploring and he stumbles upon the lonely, broken, and strange soul.

The call and screech of parrots echoed through the forest, challenged in volume only by the rush of water as it fell over cliffs and collided with the pools that formed at the bases. The sun shone brightly though it still struggled, in places, to pierce the thick canopy of trees that towered larger than most buildings. Humidity hung heavily over the forest, though none of the animals seemed to notice. Butterflies floated lazily from one flower to another. The occasional early-rising pademelon slipped in and out of view, hiding beneath the thick foliage that covered the forest floor.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Aiden took a seat on a nearby fallen log, checking the area around it for snakes before sitting. He slipped his pack from his back and dug through it until he could retrieve his water bottle, taking a long drink from it before replacing it. His thirst quenched for the moment, he scanned the area around him, taking in the natural beauty. Though it was as different from his city life in Brisbane as physically possible, he found that the forest held some appeal. It was quiet, calm and a person could think out here. But, then, that was just the problem. He didn't want to think because that would only lead to thinking about why he was out there in the first place rather than back home with his parents. His, by now, separated parents.

Roughly pushing himself to his feet, he continued along the track he'd been walking. As he drew nearer to the river, he found he was pulling more and more leeches off the exposed skin below his knees. No doubt the bottom half of his legs would be covered in blood by the time he got back. The parents of his friend, Marcus, had offered him the use of their vacation house while his parents sorted things out. He had never been one to take advantag of his friend's rich parents but, with all the drama at home, he hadn't been about to pass up the offer.

The sudden screech of a far-too-close parrot startled Aiden out of his thoughts with such a jerk that he stumbled backwards, tripping over his own two feet. This would not have been a problem if not for the fact that that particular part of the trail was on a terribly steep hill. Falling backwards, he pinwheeled his arms in a vain attempt to keep his balance before losing his footing altogether and tumbling down the imbankment. Sticks and debris scratched and grabbed at Aiden's skin and clothing as he tried to slow his descent. Finally, he came to a slow stop near the bottom. Breathing heavily, his heart racing, he didn't move for several long seconds.

Slowly, Aiden pushed himself up with shaky hands. Nothing hurt seriously. Just some scratches and probably a bruise or two. Pulling a leaf from his hair, he glanced down at his clothes and sighed at the large brown marks across them. At least they weren't torn.

Looking back up the way he'd fallen, he grimaced. It was far too steep to try and climb back up. He looked around, searching for an alternate path that might lead him back. However, his attention was quickly grabbed as he noticed something of a distinctly un-forest-like color. Curious, Aiden pushed his way through the undergrowth, glancing down every couple seconds to ensure he wasn't about to step on a snake. As he drew closer, the dull silver took shape. Bars. The top of a cage. Covering a hole in the ground? Aiden had heard that this part of the forest was rank with poachers but they were after the parrots and one did not catch parrots that way.

Finally, Aiden drew close enough to peer over the edge and into the hole. His whole body went stiff with shock at the sight that greeted him. "What the hell?"

It was like any other day for the so called 'perfect creation'. In essence this beautiful girl was everything there is to describe being perfectly imperfect. Porcelain white skin that never tanned because she was so far down adorned her small body. Her once beautiful, blond hair had faded to the color of the most beautiful, untouched snow. Her perfect shaped eyes, big and round, were closed. Her thick eyelashes almost reached the tip of her nose in length. This girl was just beautiful over all. With a blank face, she slept in a position that might have confused one into thinking that she had fallen down the hole and fallen onto her side. Instead of have fallen into the whole, she had been pushed in by the creators that she had loved like parents. The girl had thought that they had loved her too. Apparently her innocent mind had been very wrong back then. So had her ten year old heart.

The previous night, the caged teenager had tried numerous times to escape. So many times she had fallen, tripped into the wall, and accidentally face planted by tripping over her blanket and stuffed animal. She had given up when the sun had started shining it's thin line into her little prison. That was the time she had laid down with a aching body, numerous cuts, and bruises. If one to were look at her now, though... They wouldn't suspect a thing. In fact, she probably looked like a life sized doll that desperately needed her hair brushed, her body washed, and new clothes. It was obvious that her clothes barely fit her anymore. When they had thrown her into the six years ago, her creators had only give her two more sets of clothes besides the little dress she already wore at that time. In the corner was that dress and the other dress she had grown out of. Now, she wore ripped shorts made of fine, white clothe with a shirt to match. The set of clothing was stained, torn, and tight fitting to her petite frame.

The project was sleeping peacefully. She had a clock, she would be able to tell that she had only slept three hours the moment her eyes fluttered open because of a voice. A voice that took her several seconds to register as it echoed through the cement square that she was trapped inside of. Two purple orbs opened fully. Her body slowly sat up. As Genesis sat up, her white hair ,that touched the back of her knees at this point, drug across the floor. It was perfectly flat against the parts of her body that it landed on when she fully stood up. Slowly, she looked up at the top of the prison. She hoped and prayed the entire times. Genesis's already big eyes grew wider at the sight of the boy's face that she could see. For a moment, she was speechless then tears started flowing down her face in hope. "You! Please, please help me. I'm stuck down here. Please, get me out! Please, help me." Her voice was loud yet musical. It was pleading and sounded scared with a little bit of worried mixed into it. That worry was that this man wouldn't be able to pull her out of her cursed prison....

Aiden stared in disbelief down into the caged hole. Its occupant was unlike any he'd ever seen. Her skin was so pale, she looked like one of those porcelain figurines of his mum's that he'd accidentally broken when he'd played ball with Marcus inside the house. Last month. Her hair, such a fair blond it looked white beneath the dirt and grime, was long enough to reach the back of her knees. Her clothes were torn and filthy, and way too small. If the situation hadn't been so serious, and so strange, he would have been embarrassed.

In his shock, he spoke. The sound of his voice must have reached down into the hole for the female stirred. Her unusually large eyes blinked open, though he couldn't see what color they were. He watched as the girl looked up towards him and her eyes, if possible, grew even larger before tears quickly filled them only to spill down her cheeks. He hoped they were tears of joy. He'd never been able to handle crying girls.

The young woman -at least, he thought she was a woman. She was so... so perfect, it was hard to tell how old she was- pushed herself up, begging him to get her out. Her voice sounded so scared, even with its musical quality. "Alright, alright. I'll get you out," he told her, though he had no idea how.

Slipping his pack off his back, he knelt down beside the bars. They seemed pretty secure but he gave them an experimentary tug anyway. His mind scrambled as to how in the world he was supposed to get her out. There was a door in the centre of the bars with a lock. Eyeing the bars nervously, he reached over, careful to keep his balance. He gave the door a tug but it remained firm. Maybe if he could find a way to break the lock... He moved back, unzipping his pack and searching through its contents. Not much to work with. His mobile phone, his tobacco, papers and lighter, the remains of his lunch, a first-aid kit and a half-full bottle of water. Swearing under his breath, he looked around. Maybe if he could find a big enough rock to drop on it. After all, the lock had looked pretty rusted. No surprise, considering how humid it always was.

Desperately scanning the undergrowth, he searched for anything hard enough and heavy enough that dropping it on the lock would break the rusty metal. He dug through the leaf litter, disturbing plenty of insects and other creepy crawlies, but rocks illuded him. Scrambling back to the edge of the cage, he called down, "I'm going to go look for a rock to drop on the lock. I'll be back."

His mind scrambling as much as his body, he hurried back the way he'd decided would lead to the track. The stream he'd passed earlier had had plenty of big rocks on its banks. His muscles screamed in protest as he ran back towards the water. Within minutes, he found his way to the river tributary. He scanned the rocks laid out before him, searching for one that looked heavy enough. Reaching for one, he scrabbled to grab hold of its slippery edges but, slowly, managed to pull it out of the mud which made a sucking sound as it reluctantly released its treasure. Adjusting his grip so he wouldn't drop his load, he hurried back towards the cage.

By the time he returned, he was panting heavily and his grazed arm burned. Striding over to the cage, he said, "Move to the edge." Just in case. He waited a few seconds for her to comply before pushing the rock up to his shoulder... only for it to fall over the other side and to the ground behind him. "Are you kidding me?" Spinning around, he picked up the rock again and promptly chucked it towards the centre of the cage. It most likely had more to do with luck than aim that it landed on the lock. The sudden extra weight made the metal groan, then break. The door must have been even more rusted than he'd thought. Instead of simply breaking the lock, the door hinges snapped, sending the entire door down into the pit.

"Oh, crap." Crouching by the edge, he peered over and winced, glad he'd told her to move to the edge. Just in case. Lying on his stomach, he carefully moved out over the cage until he could reach the edge of the now-open doorway. Grabbing one of the bars with one hand and weaving his legs through bars behind him, he reached over the edge, hoping her small frame was tall enough to reach his hand. "Grab my hand. I'll try to pull you out." He had never been physically strong and never would be. He only hoped he was strong enough to pull her out.

Relief ran through the perfect girl's body while hope sparkled in her bright, hazel eyes. From up above her eyes probably looked dark, scared. Never in the past six years had a single person stepped foot into this remote forest. Or at least not enough to wide the small, yet deep prison that the little project had been thrown into. Genesis had never really understood why they had put her in this place. if they didn't want her... Why didn't they just kill her? Why was that exactly? Though, those were thoughts that weren't really on her mind for once. Now, it was all about this boy who stumbled upon her and was now saying he was going to save her. He disappeared and her heart dropped. Just as she was about to call out to him in anger, his face appeared once again to explain. She gulped, hoping that his boy was telling her the truth and wasn't just going to leave her. "Please, hurry." Her musical caught up. More than ever, the cage she was in suffocated her. The cracked walls that had weak vines growing down them them to be closing in her on as time passed on.

Genesis had tried to climb up with the vines once but it hadn't worked. Evidence of that was on the stone cold floor beneath her. The vines she had broken while trying laid on the outside edges. They were showing signs of aging as they lay there broken. Just like the doll looking girl had been heart broken and left to die. She didn't know how long she had really been in the place they had put her. All the white haired girl knew was time had drug on in the past years. But never had they ever drug on like this. Genesis felt like she couldn't breathe as she waited for him to come back. Every minute her fingers pushed into the wall further. It was as if she were ready to claw her way out with her broken off finger nails. They were chipped a little bit. Her finger nails and toe nails didn't heal as fast as her skin did. She was lucky that she healed so fast or her hands would bloody, bruised, and broken from all the times she punched the wall in an attempt to get out.

Tears started falling from her eyes. Why wasn't he back yet? Genesis's hope was dropping and just as she was about to give up again, the boy showed his face. Her face in turn lit up a like a balloon. "Move to the edge." "Okay." She quickly did as she was told. The faster she moved, the quicker he would act and get her out. That's what her brain told her right now at least. The girl could hear her heart beating fast, hard, and loud in her ears. She was a little scared that she would get hurt when he broke the lock. "You heal so fast. Why worry?" She thought to herself as she impatiently waited for the man to break the lock. "Hurry up!" She snapped. Of course, the project girl didn't mean to. It just kind of happened. How would you feel if you were trapped in a concrete cage for six years and it felt like it was taking ages for your savior to get you out? Impatience rose up in her like snakes coiling around its prey for the kill. Though, she was answered by an action instead of words.

Bang! Creeeaaak. Genesis heard the rock hit against the door. She held her breath as she waited for something else to happen. She expected him to pick the rock back up, take of the lock, and then proceed to open the door. But that wasn't exactly what happened. The door creaked again and then the unexpected happened. The seemingly indestructible cage door came crashing down like a water fall. It landed with a loud crash on the concrete floor. Genesis let out a loud that suggested she was getting killed as she covered her head. Her fear came true as she stared at the door for a moment. She would have stared at the rusted remains forever if the man's voice hadn't snapped her back into reality. Her eyes grew wide with the realization that she was just one step closer to being truly free. Quickly, she made her way over to the side where his hand was. Genesis looked at the rather large rock that had some how rolled to a good place for her to use as a step stool to get an extra boost. With hope, she stood on the rock with her tiny, bare feet and got on her tippy toes and reached up for her savior's hand. "Eeeh." The noise came out from between her teeth as she stretched her body as far as could to reach out. Eventually, her tiny hand started getting closer and closer to his. Eventually, Genesis was able to reach his hand enough to wrap her hand around it. "I shouldn't be very heavy." She noted to him. It was true. While the girl didn't need food to live, she still needed it ever once in a while to keep her weigh up to par. Only the Lord on high knew how much the little, five foot two now weighed after all the years of going with out it and water. Genesis put her tiny foot into a part of the wall that had cracked and fallen out. It was big enough for her foot to fit so that she push herself up a little more as held onto the boy's hand. The white haired female boosted herself up to give him an easier time in pulling her out. Freedom was so close. "I can taste it." Fresh air was something she couldn't wait to breathe in. She wanted to really feel the sun. She wanted to see animals and interact with someone. No longer did she care about the stuffed bear that she was leaving behind. It had become her best friend but it was the cursed thing her creators gave to her. She would probably later regret leaving it after becoming so attached but it was just something that Genesis wasn't too worry about at this point.

Aiden McKeenan

Aiden couldn't get her expression out of his mind, the fear in her dark eyes as she looked up at him. He managed to focus his attention on getting her out but the questions were already budding. How long had she been in there? Why was she in there? Who had put her in there? If he wasn't too careful, his overactive imagination would run wild on him and now was not the time. He could ask later and she would, he was sure, give him definite answers but he needed to get her out first.

He was not athletic. He was anything but athletic. As a result, his muscles burned as he pushed himself. His bruises and grazes didn't help in the slightest. The cut on his hand felt as though it was on fire as mud from the rock seeped into it. As soon as he got back to Marcus' parents' place, he was going to douse himself in antiseptics.

When he finally returned, his legs trembled with the unusual amount of sudden exertion. Endurance he had but he was certainly no sprinter, or weightlifter, or anything that involved any kind of substantial strength. Unfortunately, that was what exactly was required of him. The rock, still covered in mud and algae, slipped through his fingers, over his shoulder and to the ground behind him but not before it speered the brown and green goo over his shirt. The sound of the girl's fearful impatience made him cringe. He'd never had anyone relying on him like this before. He couldn't screw it up. Reclaiming the rock, he hurled it at the cage door, watching in shock as the whole thing gave way and was sent crashing into the pit, rock and all.

Relieved that he had told her to move to the edge, he scanned her over. In spite of the blood-curdling scream she'd released, she didn't appear to be injured, for which he was grateful. He didn't know how he would have been able to live with himself if she'd gotten hurt because of him.

Crawling out onto the rest of the rusted metal was probably the single most brave and most dangerous thing he'd ever done. If he fell into that pit, there was no one to get them out but what else could he do? He couldn't leave her in there. He crawled out as far as he dared before weaving his legs through the metal bars, wincing as the metal groaned under his weight. His stomach clenched in fear. They had to move quickly. Who knew how long it would support his weight? The idea that might not support both of theirs for any time at all was roughly pushed from his mind.

The girl stared at the door until his voice seemed to jerk her from her thoughts. Unconsciously, he held his breath as the girl moved closer, climbed atop the rock and reached for his hand. He reached as far as he could while still keeping himself secure. She reached as far as her tiny frame would allow. A tiny sound of effort escaped from her, similar to the one that escaped him. For a second, he wondered if this would work at all. Should he go back to the house and get some rope or something? But, then, her hand grabbed hold of his. He didn't dare release a relieved sigh for the effort, on his part, was only just beginning. She told him that she shouldn't be very heavy. He grunted. "That doesn't mean anything," he told her. She could be feather light and he would most likely still have trouble pulling her out.

Gritting his teeth, Aiden pulled with all his might. She moved surprisingly easily at first, but then he released that she'd pushed herself up with a crack in the wall. He pulled with all his strength, using his free hand to push himself up. Sweat beaded and fell along his face, dripping off his jaw and falling to the already moist earth. His arm and back muscles trembled with the effort but he refused to give in. This beautiful, vulnerable girl was relying on him, Aiden James McKeenan, to rescue her. He could guarantee that was never going to happen again. He wasn't about to fail, couldn't afford to.

It took everything in him but, slowly but surely, he lifted her up high enough that she could help him drag her from the cage. Freeing his legs, he pulled himself backward, all the while never letting her go until they were both safe, back on solid ground. Releasing her hand, he fell back, breathing heavily, drained of all energy. He closed his eyes, his body aching, his mind racing. The girl, whoever she was, was free. He'd done it. He'd rescued her. Now what?

Cracking open an eye, he took in every detail of her. His previous observations had proved correct. Her white-blond hair was sorely in need of a brush and a wash. Her skin, too. She needed new clothes, bigger clothes. Clothes didn't show quite so much skin. Swallowing thickly, he pushed himself up with a grimace. His muscles ached and he wondered if he would be able to get out of bed tomorrow. But, that could wait until tomorrow. "Are you alright?" he asked. The rusted metal had left fresh scrapes on his hands and lower legs. It had no doubt done the same to her own skin but he refused to look for fear of further embarrassing himself, instead keeping his eyes locked steafastly above her shoulders.

Genesis ignored what he said. Honestly, her heart as pounding so hard it was hard to hear anything. Her hand held on so tight to his that her already white knuckles started turning even lighter. If that was possible. The minute the man started pulling her up the metal bars started creaking. That scared the unwanted project and it made her heart beat even harder and quicker. It made her worry that her heart might give out before she could become free. That would just be the white haired girl's luck. The moments seemed to pass by slow. It was like in a suspense movie. It was like there should have been back ground music playing that had someone on the edge of her seat. That probably would have went through Genesis's mind if she had actually seen or known what a suspense movie was. She had been so sheltered in the lab then she was locked away from society for six years. She had a lot of catching up to do when she was finally out of the stupid, concrete prison. That was... If this boy could really pull her out of the hole.

Genesis tried to grip her feet on to the wall a little to help him out. It barely worked and every once in awhile her foot would slip down and she would have to bring it back up to a higher position on the the cracking wall. More and more tears poured out of her hazel eyes as she got closer and closer to being on the surface. She was so close to freedom. So very close. As she got closer to the surface, it was easy to tell how bright her hazel eyes actually were. They matched with her white hair better than anyone would realize. Her hair hadn't originally as white but it had faded over time. It had been bleach blond before so there wasn't much of a difference. Now it was like snow. It looked natural. It just needed to be washed, conditioned, combed out, and cut so that it could look so much more beautiful. The bars continued to creek and every couple of seconds, Genesis could hear a noise coming from the man. She almost cried out in pain when the bones in her arm popped. She closed her eyes just as one final pull was felt on her arm.

Thud. Genesis landed on the ground with a thud. The floor of forest felt amazing. At first, she didn't realize that she was free. It took her a minute but she eventually figured it out. Quickly, she inhaled the smell of the forest floor and the fresh air. She took in the feel of the breeze and letting out a loud, happy giggle as she did so. Finally, Genesis answered the man's questions minutes later. It wasn't with words at first. She opened her big, round, and happy eyes and looked at him. She threw herself at him, squeezing him tightly with her thin arms. Tears poured from her eyes in a happy water fall. Her arms were around his neck as she answered. "Yes. I'm fine. I'm great. Thank you, thank you so much. Your the angel God sent me." For several minutes, Genesis repeated those words before she let go of him and rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. The tears kept coming, though. Happiness over flowed from her and her heart squeezed with gratefulness towards this man. "I literally owe you my life. I was so alone. I've been done there for so long." Her voice cracked a little. After she got done saying it, she gulped down the huge lump that was formed inside of her throat.

"Please, tell me your name, my savior." Genesis's voice was like music and her words sounded proper. That was how she had been trained. Of course, she talked out loud every time. One of her biggest fears was that she would forget how to talk. That would've broken her heart for that to happen. It was this exact moment that she had been waiting for. It made her happy to have the ability to still speak so that the doll like girl could give so much gratitude to her savior. She took in the features. To her, the man looked exactly like an angel. So perfectly, the small strand of light was shining right down on him and little bit on her. Her white skin felt so good and craved for more and more. Genesis jumped up and quickly said, "Please, after telling your name... Take me to the sun! I haven't felt it in so long. I haven't seen it either. I miss the giant star in the sky." Her pearly white smile showed as she looked at him with the innocence and excitement of a small child. Genesis might as well be a small child. She was six years behind with the world. It was amazing how white and straight her teeth were. That was another trait she got. Another perfect thing about her. Genesis's teeth never turned yellow or grew weak. It was amazing how quickly she had been trashed because of a few flaws. She still didn't understand that those flaws were what got her put in the prison. Give her a break. She was ten years old when it happened!

Aiden McKeenan

Aiden ground his teeth against the strain, and the added pain of the girl clutching his hand so tightly. Her grip was so strong, he was surprised his bones didn't break, or at least bend. His eyes closed tightly as he pushed himself and the girl up. The metal creaked beneath him, as though audibly complaining about the added weight. The physical strain kept his mind blissfully blank. Otherwise, he probably would have been scared to death of the metal giving out. As it was, all he could do was focus on moving up, then back, slow movements that pulled his already stretched muscles further.

Finally, after nearly a minute of pulling -thuogh it seemed much longer, Aiden pulled the girl free. He fell backwards onto the mix of earth, grass and fallen leaves. The coolness of the ground quickly seeped through the back of his shirt, damp with sweat from the exertion and humidity. It took nearly a minute for Aiden to open his eyes and turned his attention to the strange female he'd pulled from the pit. He raised an eyebrow as he watched her, smelling the air and giggling. Wary, he wondered if she had been in that pit that long, or if she was just crazy. He hoped it was the latter, but, really, assumed it was the prior. When he asked if she was alright, it took her a few moments to answer and then it wasn't with words.

Aiden jerked in surprise as the girl threw her arms around him, squeezing him with a grip that was surprisingly strong for such thin arms. Unsure how to react to such an open and physical display of gratitude, he slowly patted her on the back with one arm, using the other to keep himself propped up.

Her arms wound themselves around his neck as she thanked him, over and over again, calling him an angel of God. Again, Aiden was unsure how to react. He'd never considered himself religious -though he'd certainly been around enough of those kind, including Marcus and his parents, so he didn't mind- and it seemed strange, though he could understand why she'd say such a thing. It was several minutes before she finally let him go and he was able to see her close-up.

Releasing her, Aiden studied the girl's face. Her eyes were a bright hazel, filled with tears that refused to stop. He assumed, more like hoped, they were tears of joy. Even still, they made him shift uncomfortably. However, when she told him she had been down there for a long time, he paused. Exactly how long had she been down there? Surely it couldn't have been more than a couple days. A person could only go for three days without water, he'd read somewhere. Even in a place as damp as this, she wouldn't have been able to get enough water to last more than three days. Four at the most. And she certainly didn't look dehydrated. Most likely she was claustraphobic or something so it seemed like a significantly longer time than it actually had been.

Before he could question her, the girl asked for his name. And didn't she sound proper? He couldn't help but think she sounded like those girls he'd seen on television that went to Britain for finishing school. However, before he could tell her, she leapt to her feet, begging for him to take her to the sun. He squinted into the few weak rays that managed to reach through to shine down on him. Pushing himself back to his feet, he brushed some of the dirt off his shorts. He supposed any claustrophobe would want to see the sun again after being trapped. That was normal, right? "Uh, Aiden. Aiden McKeenan. And you are?"

Aiden began to reach for his pack as he spoke but, when he caught sight of that glorious smile, he had to stop. It wasn't just that her teeth were perfect and unusually white. The way she looked at him when she smiled, it reminded him of Marcus' cousin when she would come to visit. Though the girl was significantly younger than them, it was obvious she had a crush on him. This girl was giving him that same smile now, full of excitement and an almost child-like innocence. Maybe there was something wrong with her mind. Pushing such thoughts away, since he didn't have any substantial reason to think such things, he said, "If it's the sun you're after, it's a bit of a hike. About an hour back to... to my place." Well, technically he was living there, temporary as it may be, so it wasn't actually a lie. Besides, he could explain later. Explain that he was living in his best friend's parents' vacation house because his own parents' marriage was falling apart and he couldn't stand the fighting anymore. On second thought, he might just hold off on the explanation. Besides, Marcus' mum had so many family pictures around the house, she was bound to figure out for herself that he didn't actually own the place.

Retrieving his pack from the ground, he slung it onto his back. He shifted, unsure whether to say something or just start walking and expect her to follow. "Are... Are you sure you'll be able to make it? I mean, it's mostly downhill but it's a fair distance." The track itself was clear but it still wasn't easy. Fallen trees and rocks had to be climbed over in several places. If the girl couldn't make it back, he certainly wouldn't be able to carry her but he couldn't just leave her. They'd simply have to take their time and be careful.

Genesis was totally oblivious to any effects she was having on the man who just saved her. She twirled around and breathed in the fresh air. This felt amazing! She really wanted to find out how long she had been down there. On the wall was a year written in sloppy, shaky hand writing that suggested a little girl had done it. It was the year she had got put down there. She heard them saying the date on the helicopter on the way to her prison. "2007." Was what was written there. If she had been older and understood more, the girl probably would have rebelled against them. She would have tried to escape or begged for them to release her somewhere else. Or just kill her. Death was way better than being trapped for the rest of your life with really no way of dying. The porcelain skinned girl healed very quickly. She couldn't starve or die of thirst. The unbearable heat couldn't kill her and rain hardly made it's way in. Somehow it couldn't make its way into the cage. Could she drown? That was one thing she didn't know. It would have been nice for the cage to fill. Even if she couldn't drown, she could have someone tried to get her way out. Maybe there would be no way out and the water would over flow. That would have been even more miserable to have to sit in water for the longest time. At least she could sleep on the floor and cuddle her teddy pair while she prayed for freedom.

"Freedom." The word echoed through her mind like a broken record. She giggled even more. She was jittery with excitement. It was to the point where she was actually shaking. Even though she could feel him staring at her, Genesis didn't once stop looking around, picking at things, or giggling till she heard the sound of his voice. It was much softer now that they didn't have to yell at each other. "Aiden." She played around with the name on her tongue. It was the first name she had heard in years. It felt nice to speak to someone. It felt nice to know someone's name and be able to have some form of communication with something that would respond. She ran back up to him but stopped dead in her tracks when he asked for her name in return. Slowly, she answered, "Genesis." There was a slight pause as she realized just how close she had come to forgetting the name her creators had give her. An unusual breeze blew by. It was gentle and it tried to pick up her hair that barely moved. "Just Genesis." One last pause. "I don't have a last name." She didn't have a last name. No one had ever told her or give her one. From all the movement and dragging her stomach across the bars that were still intact, her dirty shirt had come up a little bit. It wasn't up enough to see that something was missing on her body, though. Something that she didn't have that everyone else did. Yet, still, her shirt wasn't up enough for a person to notice her difference.

Genesis grinned, grabbing the man's hands as she bent down a little. She pulled on him a little as she walked back wards. Her hands were small and probably still a little bit cold from the cage. It would surprise a person how cold it was down in that awful hole. That evil prison cell. "I do not care!" She cried out happily. Another giggle came out of her mouth as she continued to drag him. She let go and turned around, twirling all around again as they started to make their way towards the place where she could see the Sun. She couldn't wait to feel its warmth against her arms and her legs and her faces. She couldn't wait to savor the feel of the beautiful star's rays. "Please! Take me to where you live! As long as I can feel the sun once again!" She said with excitement filling her. A little bit of a adrenaline was going through her system from the suspenseful moment of her being pulled out of the hole by Aiden. "I promise I can make it, to matter how long the journey! It's been years since I'm been able to actually walk and stretch!" Wait. Had it really been years since she had been able to do such a thing as move around freely in a wide up place. It was time to ask her next question. "Aiden, what year is it?" She asked as she repeated the year 2007 in her head over and over again. Math would come easy to her. She just prayed that the year wasn't really far off and that it had felt like a century that she had been in there.IF ten years had passed by... That meant she was 20 but her body told her she wasn't quiet that old yet. Genesis was feeling a bit impatient from all her nerves and abundance of energy that was caused by excitement. She tried to stay pace with him but she always ended up in front of him again. Whether it be to pick a forest flower that was miraculously growing or to admire something as simple as tree or to try and catch an animal. All the while she waited for an answer. Her mind was traveling to a thousand different things every two seconds.

Aiden McKeenan

Aiden watched, torn between wariness and a sense of calm, as the girl twirled, taking deep breaths of air as though she hadn't breathed fresh air for years. She looked to him overjoyed to be free. No doubt he would, too, but he woudn't be spinning around. Maybe it was girl thing. She picked at flowers and grass, giggling and laughing Definitely a girl thing.

Pushing himself up, he offered her his name and asked for her own. She didn't answer right away, playing around with his name as though it was a lollie before finally running back to him and giving him her own. "Genesis." Strange name. Maybe her parents were religious. Or hippies. "Uh, nice name." But, she didn't offer a last name. In fact, she told him she didn't have a last name. He frowned, confused. She didn't have a last name? Who didn't have a last name? Maybe her parents were hippies. Hardcore hippies. "Um, okay."

He was momentarily stopped by the sight of her smile but he forced himself to sling his pack onto his back. Her shirt had rode even higher, revealing a slice of skin. He cleared his throat, glancing away. He hadn't had much to do with girls since he was in elementary school. As soon as they'd hit middle school, none of the girls in his grade would give him the time of day. That hadn't really changed throughout high school. Now, suddenly, he found himself the focus of a very beautiful, very grateful female and he was unsure how to handle all the attention.

Genesis suddenly grabbed his hands in her own much smaller, much paler, much colder digits. A soft blush burned up the back of his neck. When was the last time a girl had held his hands? Marcus' baby cousin didn't count. Glancing uneasily at their joined hands, he warned her about the hike. No sooner had he finished that she cried out that she didn't care. And she was happy about it. She released his hands-his scraped, slightly bloody, and now very sweaty hands- in order to spin around some more. She told him to take her where he lived -a statement that made him inwardly wince at the white lie he'd told- and that she could make it. However, it was her last statement that made him freeze.

"It's been years since I'm been able to actually walk and stretch!" Aiden stared at her. He couldn't help it. He could put her overjoy down to claustrophobia and relief at being free. He could put her other statements down to exagerration. This, however, was just too much. "What?" The word breathed past his lips, skepticism mixed with disbelief and a raspy quality thrown in curteousy of its low volume. When she asked what year it was, all he could do was stare. Was this girl serious? Was she truly asking him what year it was? She seemed oblivious to his shock, bouncing around as though she was a toddler on a sugar high who had just been placed in time-out. She picked at flowers to stared at trees or even tried to catch an animal, another pademelon, he thought. But all he could do was stare, for two full minutes. His mind raced, his thoughts collided like cars on a highway, the beginning of one running into the end of another. Genesis, if that was even her real name, was crazy. She had to be. Unless her captors, or whoever had put her in there, had provided her with food and water and cleaned out her... waste -something he very much doubted- she wouldn't have been able to survive.

Licking his lips, he finally dragged himself from his thoughts. "Uh, twenty-thirteen." He stayed right where he was, refusing to step back but truly wanting to just get away from this nut-job and forget he'd ever met her. "Genesis, exactly how long were you in that pit?" Part of him didn't want to know. It reasoned that, no matter what she said, she was crazy and her answer couldn't be trusted. But, then, he couldn't just leave her out here to die. At the very least, he had to bring her back, get her cleaned up and give her something to eat, then call the authorities and let them deal with her. Maybe she was schitzophrenic and seriously needed her meds. Yeah, that had to be it. She was just mentally ill and as soon as she got some meds into her system, she would turn into a completely normal person.

All the same, the idea of being in the middle of a remote forest with a mentally ill girl, even one that didn't have a weapon on her and seemed as harmless as an overenergetic puppy, made him think of all the news stories he'd heard about bodies being found in national parks.

Forcing himself back into motion, he followed a trail back to the main track, trying to keep distance between himself and Genesis without allowing it to be too obvious. Only an hour. He could handle that. He'd get her something to eat and in the shower as quickly as possible, then call the cops.

[n]"Why thank you!" Genesis kept going on the way she was. She was having fun for once! It felt so nice to be out of such a confined space. It didn't once go through her mind that she might be acting crazy. Maybe she was crazy! She was enjoying her life. She came so close to catching a squirrel but was disappointed when it ran off. A laugh escaped from between her lips never the less. The white haired, perfect girl was so happy that she felt like that any moment she was going explode from excitement. Still, she waited for an answer while she hopped around like a mad man and tried her best to breathe in as much air as possible. The weight of depression was was crumbling off of her shoulders. It felt like that weight equaled the weight of the entire world. It was finally off her shoulders. There was a strip of sun that she caught sight of. She let out a gasp and ran at it. Genesis stood under her and looked up at the sky through the trees. The wind didn't come through. Even though it was humid and hot, Genesis thought it felt amazing. Her skin was warming up and already starting to look healthier. Despite how porcelain colored the girl was, you couldn't see through the paleness in her skin. It didn't look gross like it should have. It just looked shinny and pretty. Well, not so much shiny. It did look and was smooth. Just like her creators wanted. That was until they throw her out like trash. Threw her in a hole to leave her to die. That was, if she could die.

The year rung through her ears and instantly, Genesis stopped. She looked straight at him like someone has just shot her through the foot. Her eyes got a little bit freaked out. There was something going on in her eyes as she started to use her great math skills. The skills she had been made with. "...2013-2007... That equals six years.... What?" She slowly walked over to him then let on a small smile. "I've been down there for six years. I guess that means I owe you a lot for saving him." She giggled and then calmed down a little bit. The news stunned her a little as she rubbed her right arm with her left hand. Her white, mangled hair was falling over her shoulders like boards as she let out a quick sigh. "I dreamed every night that someone would come get me. I was about to give up on that hope." The chuckled came out of her mouth. It was an awkward one. She let out a breath of air as she looked at the ground and rubbed her neck. "I still can't believe it was really so long. I knew it felt like forever... I guess that means that I'm sixteen now..." That was, if her birthday had passed. That was something she wouldn't ever know because she didn't know when her birthday was. She couldn't remember. For ten years she had been told when they celebrated it on the exact day in the lab. After not celebrating it for so long... She couldn't remember exactly what it was. The only thing she could think was her age. When she was in the plane with them all those years ago... The scientists were speaking and recording things. She remembered one of the females saying her name and that the small, almost perfect child was ten years old the day they put her in that pit. That was the date she couldn't remember. Her mind already felt tried trying to remember. So, Genesis gave up. She didn't want to think about it or even care right now. She was free. That was all that matter.

There was question that was lingering in her mind for Aiden. "What were you going out here, Aiden?" Genesis's look and voice both spelled out curious. She was grateful, yes. At the same time, she was truly curious how and why he was all the way out in the middle of no where. The sad thing was, she couldn't even remember what country she was in. The mind that was created to be fast was starting to wear down from all those years of doing nothing but talking to herself, the bear, and walking around in circles. And sleeping. Her mass amounts of sleep probably stunted her memory a little bit too. There were some dreams of hers that she could faintly recall from over the years. Only because they were weird and way out there. It made her wonder how her mind came up with such strange things. Every little noise made her turn her head. Her heart was pounding so hard from excitement. She was over joyed and her energy was starting to build up all over again. Her pace quickened in the slightest bit. As Genesis thought of the sun, her skin started to crawl with longing.

Aiden McKeenan

Aiden raised an eyebrow when Genesis thanked him for the 'compliment'. She was certainly strange. Maybe her mother had been into drugs when she was pregnant, or something. He'd heard that did that to people. Watching her bounce around like she'd been locked away for years, it was all he could do not to shake his head. A sudden gasp caught his attention and he watched her run at a patch of sunlight that struck the forest floor. He paused, watching her stand in the light and stare up through the trees. The sun made her fair skin almost glow, her hair shining despite its desperate need of a wash and brush. Crazy or not, he had to admit that she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. He huffed. She should be glad that it was him who found her and not some other guy, some other guy who would have no problems taking advantage of a girl alone in the rainforest with no one around for kilometres to hear her.

Aiden had begun walking around but he paused momentarily when she asked what year it was. Then, his suspicions took a sharp downward turn. If she was asking what year it was, she had to be crazy. He was still considering schitzophrenia when he told her what year it was, waiting for her answer. Not that it much mattered what she said. She was crazy anyway. She'd probably tell him she'd been in there for thirty years or something. However, she stopped and he could see the shock mixed with fear that played across her face, making him wonder if he should be worried about being alone with her in a rainforest with no one around for kilometres. Even more so when she walked over to him with a strange smile on her face that made a shiver shoot up his spine. At the news that she had been down there for six years, he simply stared, the only thought going through his mind was that he desperately needed a cigarette.

In fact, getting back to the house could wait a minute or two. Sliding his pack down, he dug through it until he could retrieve his tobacco, papers and lighter. He completely ignored her thanks, her comments on how she had dreamed that someone could find her, how she had almost given up hope. She was nuts. Completely off her rocker. He had a cigarette rolled within seconds, lit and puffing away on it only seconds more. He didn't care that they were bad for him, didn't care that they were highly addictive and would most likely kill him in the long run. He blamed his parents for it, anyway, and they knew it, too. They'd never been a very harmious couple but had always managed to work things out. However, things had gotten worse within the last year. As soon as the d-word -that is, divorce- started being thrown around, Aiden's stress levels went through the roof. He'd never been one to give into peer pressure before but he'd heard somewhere that nicotine had a calming effect in situations of extreme stress. His certainly counted as one. That was part of the reason Marcus had talked his parents into allowing Aiden to stay at the vacation house, not that they'd needed much convincing.

Aiden eyed Genesis warily, almost suspiciously, when she released an awkward chuckle. Though he could talk around the cigarette, it gave him a valid excuse not to reply when she spoke about her now being sixteen. He'd thought that would have been obvious, judging from the extra growth in certain places that females went through during their teen years. At the thought, he made himself look away lest he be tempted to examine said growths, which would inevitably cause his face to burn in a blush. But, seriously? Six years? Did she really expect him to buy that? Either she was lying through her teeth or she was nuts. And yet, the relief in her eyes when he'd pulled her from the pit hadn't been put on. Nope, she was just crazy.

Just as he was finishing his cigarette, Genesis spoke again, asking what he'd been doing out there. He watched her, searching her face for any sign of a trick but saw none. Not that he would know what such a sign looked like. His social skills were generally lacking. She seemed genuinely, curious, though. He grunted in response to his own thought, stubbed out the cigarette, stuck the remainer in his pocket and return his pack to its previous spot before continuing on towards the house. And if, by chance, his breathing was a tiny bit more difficult, what did it matter? "Trying to clear my head," he said told her without further explanation. He'd come out there specifically to not think about the situation at home. He wouldn't willingly bring it to mind if he could help it.

As they walked, he noted that she seemed to go through periods of hyperactivity, then normal energy, then back to the hyperactivity. In spite of his conviction that she was insane, he just had to ask. "Genesis, why were you in that pit in the first place?"
