Am taking this little butt to the vet tomorrow. She's runty. whee
She was really sick a few days ago, like scary sick so she's going in for a check up and a rabies shot.

WOOOOOOO 7:30!
Ignore the ear scratching arm and the lack of owning sheets.
Kthx. c:

Thanks, Daisy's become vastly more important to me since my grandmother died in February. She was more of her dog than my dog, so it's a little weird to me anyway how dependent we've kinda become of one another.

She ended up being okay, in perfect health actually. Her liver enzymes are a little high, but other than that, YAY. I can get her registered with the city now too that her shots are up to date. She hadn't been to the vets in like....5 years. D:

Lesse. She's about seven years old. c:

That cool you guys have established a corelationship.

Okies thats good. Interesting I would have guessed shes a bit older than that. Does she get much exercise, like do you walk her daily, or go out and play for like 30 mins or so a day with her?

She lives a pretty sedentary life, it's part of the reason we chose her breed actually. I take her out for a little less time than that about three times a day where we run around the yard or I let her go chase a cat or something. I take for walks in the park about two or three times a week. She's still playful though, she doesn't really act like an old dog.

Even lower energy dogs need daily exercise. That is part of what keeps them healthy. But yeah just playing with them in the back yard or what not counts. Typically its dogs who dont get enough exercise that age a lot faster and get sicker a lot more....similar to in humans who arent active enough. And of course they need to drink plenty of water and have a "good diet" (aka....not feed "much" human foods which are mostly bad for them).

But Im not challenging how you look after her, I just want to give her the best opportunitys to improve her health. Since I am really big on healthy animals (As indifferent as I may be to humans, I care deeply about animals....although I do care deeply about my friends as well, like you ^_^)

Whats its breed, the pic looks kinda like a beagle. But beagles are active dogs, which is why I dont think you would have choosen a beagle.

But if it is this short article is a good entry level read

See the thing that I read was that they adapted relatively well to sedentary life styles. :/ But regardless of that, I know that exercise is super important for her. The only downside of 'inheriting' her is that if I was an outside person looking in on my life I would be like "Dude you have no time for a dog right now." But, I try my best for her. c:

Luckily I don't feed her much human food anyway so she's good there. She used to be like SUPER PIG before my grandmother died lol. I don't do begging. She's lost a ton of weight since she passed.

I'm cool, I'm the kind of person who's pretty open to advice. 3nodding
Def, going to book mark that site link though. She is a pure bred beagle, yes. I was like, 14 when we got her?

I think "Adapt well" means they accept that they cant do anything and lose thier will to try. (Where as other dogs keep thier energy and will act out if not exercised). Though as they lose thier will its also when they are more likly to approach all the health issues.

Indeed to me having a dog is like having a baby....just with less legal consequences and easier to feed and such. But still requires care, and unfortunatly care definitly takes time.

Yeah old people are usually "too kind" to dogs...which is often actually being unkind since as you know thier digestive systems arent adapted to human modified foods. Im glad she is getting healthier with you though ^_^.

Thats just one site, if you do get the time I would consider doing extra research of your own (you know to make sure Im not presenting a biased view and what not).

I can see that. She's still a moderately playful dog, but I'm not really too upset with how she acts in the day to day, she and I share a similar love of sleep. No doubt that's because of me, not her but whatever lol.

It REALLY is like having a child in a lot of ways. Care and consistency. Routines and what not.

It's true, my grandmother wasn't exaclty the best owner in the world when it came to snacks or how she treated Daisy. When I was younger, she would let the dog go out without a leash on and would use sticks and stuff to scare her into submissiveness. Not the best anecdote, but she's really nervous around people. But, since she stopped walking her that's gotten better. She didn't even snap at the vet the other day which was good, showing improvement! :3

I more likely than not will, but I trust your advice so I'll probably try to stick to the same points mentioned on it. c:

Yep the way dogs act and feel around other people and dogs, is similar to that of little children. Based on a combination of the care/socialisation/teaching/role modeling/diet/schedule/etc will all define how they act in any given situation. The good thing is, old dogs learn new tricks really well from people who are patient and give them time. So its never too late to do what you believe is best ^_^. And I know you will do what you believe is best to her her from getting any new conditions, or worsening old conditions, besides those of which you couldnt have done anything about.

Yeah I know you will you are a smart person, and have a good heart, which is why I know she will be good with you ^_^ and I know you are smart enough to not take everyones word at face value. But I respect your trust and I am trying to look for your and her best interest so I am more trying to help you move in the right direction as opposed to telling you what to go or what to do. ^_^
