Citrus Novii Sagebomb You would love working here then XD, of our 200+ staff only about 70 of them (the core staff) are smart enough to figure out basic staff. The rest are rich jewish peeps who came here as campers and decided to come back as staff....and as such never really learnt logic...because until working here they have had everything done for them. I can definitly sympathise Jeez, and I'm only dealing with five xD What do you do there? Three of them are new though, and their shifts are overlapping half of the time. I hate myself for putting together this week's schedule, it's so....MUCH lol. I have been talking non stop and correcting non stop all week!
XD I dont manage all them I only have about 3 staff under me atm (I say 3 but, I have to borrow often which means there is about another 5 I can use atm, if I can get them from other areas). I was more so talking about people from all around the camp, and I definitly interact a lot with others since I am a head staff, as well as counsilors who travel with the kids to the activity areas.
I am "Head of Ropes" Which basically means I run/manage all programming, and everything to do with out team ropes course (8 elements), High ropes course (just two elements), Low ropes course/initiative task area, team building activitys, climbing walls and zipline. For regular periods, and special events that use those areas, as well as consulting on things based around climbing and such. (Of course managing/training staff and what not within said areas as well).
But I have been understaffed the entire summer so have to constantly borrow people to make things be able to run. So thats been kinda stressful, and long days and what not, but luckily the camp is winding down and there are less kids here now, so its not so bad anymore ^_^.
Yeah scheduling can suck, and I always make sure I do the most work so no one complains that they are doing more (although thats just on working on ropes areas, and dosent count for all the extra stuff I have to do behind the scenes. But I work on the philosophy that happy staff, are less likely to be crappy staff...so I try and keep as many people as possible happy. |

Lol, how do you steal them? Or is it your position that let's you be able to be like, "YOU WITH ME NOW." I get it though, I've only had my two dudes for most of the summer since I flipped out on this kid named Sandy. He was bitching around, whining for DAYS. So I mean, they get it, but we've been understaffed for SO LONG it's kind of weird to suddenly have a person for each hole in the kitchen again.
Is this like a summer camp kind of thing that you do? Or a training camp for something? I guess school is going to be back in soon then, does your job continue or do you have to look for something new?

Here I make sure my people see me chopping veggies, dealing with people, washing dishes to scrubbing the floors right with them. It's worked wonders for my management style. Let's them know I'll never ask them to do something that I'm not willing to do myself. I haven't had anyone call me a b***h since Eli left which is nice. ^^ |

Basically some people dont have to do things every day, like trippers, are often not on trip on fri/sat/sun. So on those days assuming its not thier day off I could borrow one of them. Otherwise some people specialise in other areas which arent every day things as well. So I basically try and borrow those people if I need someone and if I can.

Yeah exactly "positive role modeling" works on all ages....aka...why would anyone do something thier superiors wouldnt. Especially working with kids its important to take part in activitys if you want them to take part. (Although Im always taking part by running them XD).
Yeah Im job hunting atm, this contract is up on the 1st of sept. I could extend and work fall outdoor education camp, but Im still trying to find work with animals. |

Its not a bad place, we are on a nice lake which gets awesome sun sets.
Yeah I love pictures too, but not really of people. I do plan on uploading some photos Ive taken in a few days or so, maybe a week if I can get any good pics of the perseids.
