I don't know if they all actually J-pop but here a few of my top favorites:
スガシカオ (Suga Shikao) – I watched xxHOLiC and Honey & Clover about the same time and it was instant love.
堂本 光一 (Domoto Koichi) – I can't explain why I like him. I just do.
Abingdon Boys School – They had me from "Howling" (the Darker than Black OP).
AI – Can’t remember where I stumbled upon AI but it too was like instant love. And no there was anime.
Crystal Kay – No anime involved here either. Around the time I discovered CK I was going though I lot of mix race Japanese artists. I love the blend in her music. She can go from pop to urban to a bit blues and back again.
Ellegarden & One Ok Rock – Punk… Rock… Punk rock!?! I don’t know, don’t care, they just sound good.
A week doesn't go by without me listening to any of these artist.

I used to be really into AnCafe until around the time Bo left.
I havn't paid attention to band names for a long a** time so some names might be wrong but...
