Mmur barreled through the portal, his weapon already drawn, every muscle tense with the desire to fight. Although he knew he hadn't taken that human child's arm and that it had all been a vision brought on by the mirror, he could still smell blood in the air. He could hear the child's screams. They were like music on the breeze... or they would have been if there was a breeze here. As usual, there was nothing on the other side of the portal, nothing except for the distant scuffling and screams of angry titans. Maybe his subconscious had mistook their bellowing for more human sounds. Mmur knew he hadn't done that child any harm, but he was beginning to think that was a large part of the problem. He now craved a fight and he had come here to get one.
It only took a handful of minutes to find one of the mindless brutes in the fog. Much like any other worthy opponent, if you caused enough of a ruckus, they would come to you. The titan made its presence known by flinging one of its spikes at the soldier, knocking Mmur off of his feet as he muttered a curse. He rose soon after and raced in the creature's direction, his whip almost incandescent as he slashed at the titan's glowing eyes. The horseman wasn't close enough to properly strike, but he did earn a roar of disdain as his foe wiped at its face with its massive paws.

With a series of nimble hops, Mmur drew closer to his foe, whip slashing wildly in front of him. Now that he was near enough to strike directly, the horseman quickly gathered his FEAR and fortified his weapon with it, striking the hulking creature and splitting its thick exoskeleton with the blow. The titan immediately halted its forward advance, thudding awkwardly to the ground with a pained screech. No fewer than seven of the spines that covered the creature's back launched toward him, several of them whizzing past his unprotected body. The resulting minor injuries didn't change facts, however. The titan was down and he was going to finish it.
Mmur's whip fizzled back into the ether as he crept within inches of his defeated foe. Normally, this was where his job ended, but today he was alone, expected to take care of the entire operation: subjugation, purification, looting. He rested a hand on the beast's carapace, patting it a couple of times when it squirmed.

The stallion sidled around the fallen titan, looking for the best spot to place a fragment without doing the creature further harm. It did no good to kill them outright... or so he had been told. Honestly, he had no definitive idea why that would be, but he suspected these creatures reacted in the same way to dissipation as horsemen and citizens of Halloween did. He would need to purify it rather than give it a chance to regenerate.
But where...
The titan didn't put up a fight as he pushed it onto its back and crawled on top of its stomach, choosing a spot between its protective plates for his first fragment.

"There," he said to himself, sliding the fragment into place. A satisfying hiss was his only reward, but it was more than enough for him. The flaking gray mist that hovered close to the creature's new wound quickly collapsed into it, the insanity it had been formed from consumed by the purifying shard. Mmur's smile grew wider as he drew a second unused shard from his breechcloth. He circled to the titan's opposite side, jamming the fragment into one of the voids left behind by its defensive spikes. This time there was a low whine and a shudder right before the beast stopped moving.

Much as he'd heard that the titans had to be disposed of in this way, Mmur had also heard that they could be scavenged for useful items, items that could then be crafted into weapons. He didn't see anything like that at the moment, but years of portal guarding duty in the desert had taught him patience, and the horseman waited the creature out, watching the corpse until it began to deflate. Odd lumps and bumps marred its once-smooth skin and shell, and the soldier reached for one, pulling it away in a mess of gray, sticky viscera.

That had gone... well, he supposed. Mmur looked down at the chunk of titan he'd liberated, then shook it to see if it did anything. It didn't. At a loss as to how to make a weapon out of a weird, glowing orb, Mmur reached back into the muck that had been his worthy foe, pulling out a second orb that was eerily similar to the first. In fact, it was identical.
With a mild shrug, the horseman pocketed his broken core and moved on.
