He laughed and shook his head, taking his hand and holding it with both of his. "It's not my birthday, Nikolai. It's our anniversary." He reached into his pocket, pulling out the box from before and setting it in Nikolai's hand. "It's been a year since the day you decided to stay with me instead of leaving. Here, open it." Inside the box was a beautiful silver ring, fit perfectly to Nikolai's slender ring finger. "It's a promise ring," he explained tenderly, adoring violet eyes watching Nikolai's expression. "I love you so much, Nikolai, and I really want to spend the rest of my life with you. But I know that, in your past, you've always crept away from commitment. I don't want to lose you, so with this ring, I promise to wait until you're ready to marry me." He bit his lip, waiting for Nikolai's response.

Oh shiii-! It really is, isn't it? They're anniversary?

The sight of the small box made the Russian's eyes widen even more. The people nearby quieted down to hear the answer, and Leon eagerly awaited an answer. All he could hear, however, was silence. It took Nikolai a moment to realize that he wasn't even breath, and a shuddering breath left him. The doubt in his mind, all those reasons to be suspicious of Leon, was crushed by the shine of the ring. There was one thread of doubt, though, but he was willing to overlook it. I've been such a fool, he thought as he felt the alien sensation of tears fill his eyes. Leon loves me more than life itself. And if he's just using me... then it would be my honor to have my heart broken by him.
Smiling through his tears, Nikolai threw his arms around Leon's neck and hugged him. "I love you too." he whispered.

The teacher caught Nikolai with a bit of shock, not expecting him to react in this way. Sure, a smile he expected, but not this, not tears. "Nikolai," he murmured, rubbing the man's back as the crowd around them clapped. He set his hands on the man's hip, pulling him away just enough to wipe away those tears and smile at him. "Why are you crying?" he asked, his forehead on the Russian's.

Aha, and Nikki's birthday is coming!

Nikolai put a hand over Leon's and stroked the back with his thumb, smiling happily. "I'm just so happy." he admitted.

"That's good. I am too." He reached for the box, pulling out the ring and sliding it onto the man's left ring finger. Once it was in place, he rubbed the stone once over, then glanced back up to Nikolai and kissed his forehead. "I would do anything for you, you know that?" he affirmed.

"I know, dearie." Nikolai smiled lovingly at Leon. He looked back to the chef that smiled patiently at them. "Let's eat dinner, hmm?"

He nodded, then gestured for the chef to continue. "What were you thinking of having?" he asked, watching the chef prepare a fixture of noodles. "Anything you want, Nikolai, you can have."

"Oh, just some fried shrimp and stir fried noodles for me, darling." Nikolai said and waved his hand dismissively. Pausing, he lowered his hand and admired the sight of his ring. "Where on earth did you find the time to get this, dearie?" he asked.

"I've had it saved ever since Christmas," he answered, sipping the wine. "I got it just before then. I originally planned on searching through the archives I have under the cabin, but figured it would be better to actually go out and search for the perfect one for you." He paused to reply to a waiter who was asking if they wanted another wine, nodding for after they finished their current bottle. "The great part about this place is that we can bring home a bottle of sake and have another drinking battle."

"It's certainly quite the sight." Nikolai nodded then took a drink of his wine. "Mmm-hmm, are you sure you want to do that again, dearie? I'd absolutely hate to upset you on such a good day like this." he said with a teasing grin on his face.

"Upset me? If anything, you'll be pissed that I beat you again," he smirked, licking his lips before sipping the wine once again. "What about tomorrow after class?"

"That sounds marvelous, dearie." Nikolai smiled and held up his glass of wine for a toast. "Nothing would taste better after a long day of work. Except for you, of course~"

Leon raised his glass to Nikolai's, smiling at him. "Maybe you can have both." After clinking glasses, he nodded. "To us."

"Behave, Mr. Byko," he mock-scolded, drinking back his wine and setting the glass down just in time for their food. "Anymore wine?"
