It was always quiet this time of night. Murphy O'Connell, also known as Mr. O, sat on the roof of a large building playing a game on his cellphone. He was waiting for something to happen, anything at all, but he knew the crime wouldn't start for a few more hours. "D'awe, dammit," he said, laying back on the roof with his phone in hand. Seems he'd lost his game. He sat up and sighed, kicking his feet.
Where was that damn guy? He always showed up about this time. It was a fun game to play. One stole things, Murphy chased him down, and the dance continued. Last time they crossed paths, Murphy stole a kiss. He grinned. Teasing that guy was the best part of his day, even if it was a little backwards.

Elijah chewed at his thumb nail as he sat in his apartment, getting ready to head out for another night of mayhem. He was still seething, the last time he came across Mr. O, the man had stolen a kiss from him. Right as he was about to go in for a bite to poison him, his lips were captured. So easily and he had never seen it coming. He didn't expect it at all, Mr. O was the heart breaker. All the girls and women literally swooned over him. If he ever in a crowd, he'd have a woman on his arm, on each if one got lucky. Elijah had always watched him from afar, in and outside of his suit and mask. Usually from afar, calculating him as he spoke of justice, freedom and safety from all criminals and villains. At first, he found it all so funny but after a while of this cat and mouse game, it began to grow old.
Elijah was getting over these petty thefts. He had enough of it, it was time to simply step up to start taking Mr. O and this city down. Elijah got up from the couch to pull on the black suit that fit his body perfectly and the mask that covered his upper face and left his jaw untouched. He removed the piercings there before grabbing a bag he had packed before. He wouldn't be stealing anything tonight, he wouldn't be playing games with Mr. O tonight. He was going to start getting serious about this. The game was over and it was time for the real fun to start.
Chimera looked up at the building he knew Mr. O would be hanging on, like he always did. He frowned at the building before turning to the one before him. There were a few finishing touches he had left before the real trouble would begin. He removed a few more thick packages and stuck them around the base of the building, twisting the wires together before stepping back and grinning. This was purely for the chaos. Chimera practically skipped away towards the building Mr. O was on. He would give him what he wanted. Chimera perched on the edge of the building, watching as the, rather childish acting man, kicked his feet. He simple whistled to get the man's attention. "Waiting for something O?" He slipped off the edge of the building onto the roof top. The detonator was in his hand and he simply wiggled it around to show him what he held. "Wanna play a different game?" His finger hovered over the button.

Oh dear, someone was getting terribly serious, wasn't he? Mr. O stood, stretching his arms. This was a test of his speed and strength, wasn't it? Knuckles cracking, he cocked his head to the side to watch the detonator. Let's see... Chimera came from a different path tonight, which meant he'd planted bombs very close by. He did look incredibly annoyed, but he always did. It was Mr. O's fault after all. He teased that little villain something fierce each evening, but he perhaps went a little too far this time around. Still, it was his job to help protect this city. Granted, he wasn't the only superhero around, but he was most certainly the only one who bothered to mess with Chimera. He wasn't the best of villains after all.
So he watched him, toes flexing beneath the comfortable clothing he called a costume. Nothing spandex, because it couldn't breathe. He wasn't that kind of superhero. A mask on his face covered his true identity. He didn't know Chimera's, and Chimera didn't know his. That's not how he wanted it, but it'd be best this way for now.
"So is this a race to find them and destroy the bombs before you blow up the city?" he asked, grinning. "I'm faster than you."

"Yes, yes you are. But this isn't a test to see if you can find them. No, this is a different game now. I make the rules now." Chimer took a step forward, the smile slowly spreading across his face. "You can't win this one Mr. O." He pressed the button, the bank just in front of the building they stood on erupted from the base, the building collapsing. He could feel the roof top they stood on quake with the explosion, he could see that light dance on the man's mask. Smoke and dust rose up from the rubble, wooden beams and furniture on fire in the street. "You've pushed your luck too far now, O."
Like he had told himself, the says of petty theft and little crimes was over now. Nobody took him serious. The others laughed at him and didn't bother to do a thing. Mr. O had been the only one to fight him. He knew of the man's powers, he had seen them all in action before he started this life. Mr. O never showed Chimera any of that power except for his strength and speed. He never really got seriously injured from him or thrown into jail. To say the least, he wasn't a villain like the others, he was simply a menace. Small game that nobody bothered to deal with. Too strong for the police but too sad for any of the other superheros.
He was sick of it and enough was enough.

His eyes widened and he turned his head toward the bank, sirens sounding as the building collapsed. He could hear innocent people screaming, sobbing, calling out for each other and for help. He spun his head to Chimera. "Okay, woah," he said, hands out to calm him down. "Just... take it easy, will ya? You don't wanna be one of those bad guys. Those bad guys die way too fast. Everyone hates them, and then all sorts of bad s**t happens." He stepped a bit closer. "Give me the remote." His brow furrowed and he took another step toward him. "Chimera. Give it to me."
He grit his teeth. He could hear people calling for help. s**t. He had no time to ******** around with this guy when he was like this. He stepped back then and lept off the building, disappearing into the smoke and debris.

Chimera smiled at Mr. O, the edges of his lips curling up to expose the snake like fangs. They would be dripping with poison. "Get away from me!" He snapped, the smile gone. Chimera took a step back, holding the remote as far away from the man in front of him as possible. "Oh I don't?! Are you so sure about that?" He snapped, he could feel his blood boil under his skin. Heat built up in the pit of his stomach and it slowly rose to the back of his throat. If he wanted to, he could cut the man off with fire. "No! Get away!" He said, almost childishly as he took a deep breath, readying to breathe fire.
Chimera held the breath then eventually swallowed the fire there once the man jumped off the building. The cries of help finally reached his ears and he turned to look at the rubble. There... there wasn't supposed to be anybody in there. The bank was supposed to be closed today. He turned his body to look at the mess and watched as Mr. O began to move rubble and debris to free the people. Fear and guilt froze Chimera there. People bloody and hurt were hanging onto the man for dear life. Elijah took a step back and dropped the detonator. There were others that he had planned to blow up, all of them were closed.
Elijah couldn't look anymore, he turn and ran. It was the only thing he could do. Guilt began to make its home in his chest. He ripped the mask from his face, throwing it across his living room. The television was on, the station set to the local channels for the news. A helicopter circled the building, the news casters reporting how many were injured and how many were still missing. None dead so far. Elijah was sure there would be a few, he hoped there would be none. Elijah rubbed at his face before pulling off the tight suit, standing in his living room naked as he watched the television in horror. Only when they took a break did he got to his room and pull on clothes, coming right back to watch the news. He pulled on his shoes and left.
The site had been closed off, police and firemen were helping Mr. O pull people from the wreckage. There were multiple ambulances that loaded the most injured people up to take them to the hospital. Others sat aside with a blanket around them as the paramedics checked them over. Elijah stood in the back of the crowd, his light blue eyes scanning the site. None were dead so far.

Mr. O spent all evening and most of the next morning locating people and bringing them to police and EMT's. He was exhausted, but he wasn't done. The police were told that there were probably more bombs, and to check every building they could think of. They located a few more, but it was impossible to tell just how many Chimera had actually planted. By mid-day the following day, Mr. O had saved everyone. No one had died, thankfully. They'd gotten lucky he'd been able to respond so quickly, and even luckier that the bank was closed. All the casualties had been from people hanging around the building, walking by it, using it for meeting places-- They'd gotten lucky.
He was utterly exhausted. As people thanked him, they asked if he'd known who was the cause. Even though he knew that bombs had been planted, he never told anyone who it was. Only he knew it was Chimera's doing. He wasn't about to let the police get involved with this. It was his business now. He had a bone to pick with the boy. He finally managed to get away, hovering in the sky and then taking off to the rooftop where he'd last seen his foe. There, on the ground in the light of the afternoon, he was able to spot the detonator. He scooped it up, and removed his mask. His face was filthy where the flesh was visible, dirt, ash, and who knew what else. He examined the item in his hand before opening it and disconnecting the wires. There. Hopefully there wasn't a frequency that would set them off.
It was crushed in his hand and Mr. O became Murphy O'Connell. A handsome young man of 30, who was very very late for work. Uttering a curse, he spun on his heel, grabbed a bag he kept hidden on the roof and disappeared into the building. Quickly he changed, but his appearance was terrible. He was going to get fired today, he could already feel it. Out he went, bright red hair flying in the wind and down the street with his tie flowing behind him.
Needless to say, this day was not going his way.

Guilt weighed down on Elijah for the whole night through. Even in the morning, he woke feeling sick. He had work in a few hours at his mother's bakery. It wasn't ideal for him, but it was a job and it was nice. The coffee and toast taste like ash in his mouth. The shower didn't feel good and his clothes did not sit right on his body. Even as he stepped outside, nothing felt right. Nobody had died, he got lucky with that but it didn't mean everything was okay. If he could, Elijah would stop this Chimera business now, but he knew he couldn't. He had his reasons, just like Mr. O had his.
The bakery was just a few blocks away from the rubble that was one the bank. He didn't look at it as he drove past it. He was the first one there to open and start on the orders they had. Elijah wasn't sure what would happen now, after last night. O had asked him for the detonator and he had refused he acted so childish last night. He should have given it up and turned from his plan, but he didn't. He got no satisfaction from what he did last night, there was no real reason for what he did. He wanted to be taken seriously, he was sick of O teasing him. He stole a kiss from him, he laughed and it hurt Elijah's pride. It angered him. Elijah opened the shop, starting on the news that would fill the shop.

Murphy paid for his meal and tipped big. He slipped a twenty into the tip jar, grabbed the bag from the counter and held out a business card to the boy. "I have seen you around," he stated. "If you're ever interested, you should give me a call." He smiled at Elijah and turned to leave, humming as he did.
Off to work he went, enjoying his meal quite happily. When he arrived, he was finishing a turnover. He kept his lunch to himself, enjoyed it and the other turnovers later. When he finished work, he went home and stared at his costume. Murphy took a deep breath, grabbed the costume, tossed it on and grabbed the last turnover he had.
He'd wait on the roof for the other yet again, enjoying his treat.
