Off balance and uncertain; Love-in-Idleness has not planned on this, as she never plans on much of anything and then does not know what to do with the result. The fact remains. She had a dalliance, a tryst, a pleasant interlude, and that she does not regret, but she does not quite know what to do with the gentle stretch of her belly, the sense that she carries something and that time will bring her newness.

She wants the best for her eggs, that much is true. How she will do that, she does not know. (She knows very little.) Stubborn pride is what keeps her from returning to her mother's haunts; she bends her head to a still pool and drinks sweet water, and frets.
