That's what they ALWAYS said!
I'm a lost cause. . .XXXXX

But I'll make it on my own!

XXXXThe alarm clock screamed out loud to wake up its owner, but it was unnecessary that morning. By five thirty, he had been up for an hour and was just coming in from a six and a half mile run. He was hardly exhausted by the run, but he dragged his feet in returning to his room to turn off the alarm. Though he had been motivated to get out of bed, now that he was back home though, that heavy feeling had recaptured him. Even when he moved on to work on hitting his heavy bag, he still felt like his soul was slowly being crushed from the inside out. It felt utterly painful and it wasn't a pain that he could rid himself off through simple medications. A cold shower did nothing to help either in ridding himself of the weight. While it cooled his sweat soaked body, it did little to lift him.

XXXXStepping straight out of the shower, he walked back into his bedroom and pulled open his nightstand. He pulled out a container with boxes labeled for each day of the week, each being filled so much that they barely closed. Today, he emptied Thursday's into his hands. Just as he put the large pills to his mouth, the eerie shape crept out of the shadows. This was a monster he had been looking every time the lights were off. The airy demon stared him down before gapping it's massive fangs, seeming to drip poisonous ooze onto his carpeted floor. He met the demon's eyes squarely before he knocked the pills back and swallowed them without water. He kept the contact as he narrowed his eyes, feeling his prescribed drugs hit inside his stomach. "Adios dickhead," Alex snarled and turned his back on it, pulling a grey shirt over his head to cover the burning mark on his upper back.

XXXXHe dressed as he walked into the kitchen, cooking himself an easy breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausage. When he finished, he headed out to work in local gym where he readied to train his clients in everything between mixed martial arts and just getting in shape. While working in the gym allowed him to get out a lot of his energy, it was anxiety filled. Despite having taken his medications, things still appeared. There were people who still came in and looked like they were rotting away by a supernatural plague. Demons still appeared and residuals of violent phantoms followed around haunted people. Having work to do let him at least pretend that they weren't there and the burning on his upper back wasn't felt.

XXXXLeaving his work around three, he headed home only for long enough to grab his computer, tablet, notebooks, and drawing book. He then headed to the only place he ever felt safe: The town's gothic cathedral. As he'd been going there since he had run away from the orphanage, he easily got in and was excused when he climbed his way up onto one of the stain glass window's ledges. There he worked on his classwork for the day on his internet college.

XXXXBy the time the sun was setting, he had dozed off in the warm spot he loved so much. He picked his head up and checked his clock before swearing. In his panic though, he rolled off the edge of the ledge and dropped two stories from his perch. Despite where he was though, he landed on his feet, barely even thinking about it as it was something he use to love to do - and it didn't change the fact he was late to his second work shift. Without stopping back home, he raced to his bartending work place, changing into his clothes there.

XXXXOnce there, he was faced with the same problem again: The demonic. While a lot of people came in were normal, there were still the succubus, the grim reapers, and other miscellaneous members of the underworld. However, that night he even met an angel in disguise, but even he seemed by tortured by some unforeseen issue. While he was charismatic to everyone, he still felt threatened every time he met the eyes of someone he knew wasn't pure. Even with his medicine, it started adding the weight back on his shoulders.

XXXXBy the end of work, his entire body hurt from his anxiety. Alex felt like he was pealing his skin off as he removed his work's clothes. For the first time that day, he found himself looking at the colt siting in his laptop bag and it wasn't for the reason of protecting himself. However, when he pulled the gun out of his bag, he locked eyes with the airy demon of his apartment. This was the first time that he'd seen him anywhere but his home. To see him in front of him at his work place utterly terrified him.

XXXX"It's nice to finally meet you face to face, Alexander. No more hiding in the shadows, I want to know what a nephillum's flesh tastes like..."

XXXX"You aren't real, I'm not talking with you," he informed what he believed to be a hallucination. He pulled back on his shirt and coat then uncocked his colt. While he wanted to end his life, he wasn't going to do it while he was being mocked by something that wasn't even there. So, he walked away. That was his mistake.

XXXXThe moment he stepped through his work's door place, the thing rushed behind him and left his body feeling so cold that he felt like he couldn't move. "Your mistake is to think I'm kidding, Alexander."

XXXXBefore he could turn around and give his rebuttal, the humanoid shaped demon solidified. It went from being airy to a black demonic entity, his fingers tipped with massive claws, fangs that gaped out of it's feline face, and body covered in vicious fangs. Alex's brave face dropped and terror filled him as he dug into his bag for his colt but his back was torn open instead with a set of claws tearing through his shoulder strap, heavy coat, and muscle. The attack threw him into the brick wall, it crumbling under the force before he dropped to roll off the dumpster he fell to and eventually to the ground. While the attack hurt him bad enough to slow him, he still grabbed his gun and unloaded all six of his bullets into the demon's chest in a very close grouping. Yet, the bullets only crumpled upon hitting his patchy haired chest.

XXXX"Don't tell me that's all you have, nephillum," the demon chided him before grabbing him by his neck and throwing the man into another wall.

XXXXWhen Alex pulled away, he'd separated his shoulder and felt like he at least dislocated a few ribs, maybe broken them. Yet, after being told for nearly two decades that demons weren't real and his nightmares were just the manifestation of his paranoia, he fought the reality. "You aren't real," he wheezed before letting out a cry as he tried to put weight on his obviously dislocated shoulder. "It isn't happening. You're just a thug and my drugs are wearing off, leaving you looking like a demonic, ******** up cat...."

XXXXThe demon did it's impersonation of a laugh as dry, rattling came out of its throat. "I'm making you bleed an awfully lot for being a figure of your imagination," it noted, continuing to laugh as it lifted Alex off the ground again. It raised it's talons up to him again to his heart, slowly pressing them through his chest. "I was expecting so much more out of a nephillum, especially one from Azrael and Lilith."

Flipping her silver hair over her shoulder, Aria adjusted the black pack she wore on her back silently. With her pale skin and silvery white hair, the only thing colorful about her look were her blood red lips. There was a story behind why her lips always mimicked the color of the blood shed she caused, but that would be saved for a different time and place. She wore all black to blend in with the night, her footsteps silent as her black boots treaded across the ground. She also wore a black belt around her waist where her sword was sheathed on the right side, as well as throwing daggers that she stored on the left. Her pack held extra daggers if she lost any, which rarely happened since she rarely missed her targets, as well as rations to survive while stalking her target. She also had a special revolved tucked in a garter around her right calf. This gun had special bullets that were meant to penetrate a demon's skin, blessed with holy water to do ultimate damage. In fact, all of her weaponry was blessed and she always carried holy water "bombs" with her wherever she went.

Right now, she was on a mission. She'd been tracking a particular demon for quite some time now, longer than she usually held on to a target. There were other demons to be taken down wherever she went, but this one held her interest. It had been the one that killed her last partner - Owen. She typically worked alone, but when she did partner up with another demon hunter, it took a lot for her to trust them enough to work with them. And Owen had been everything to her, the best hunting partner she'd ever had, a friend, and maybe even someone she could've loved. That was, before this filthy demon, Malphas, had taken him from her.

She had finally caught up to it's trail however. It seemed to have a mission of it's own in mind as it stalked the city streets, Aria following closely enough behind as to not lose the trace of it. She wasn't going to be losing it now, not after all this time. She watched as the demon finally materialized in front of a seemingly normal man, clawing his back. She waited as the man pulled out a gun to fight back, watching to see if the bullets had any effect. She slowly stalked towards where the fight - which was very much so one sided - was taking place, positioning herself behind the demon as he attacked the man, lifting him off the ground. She had to intervene.
"Malphas." she called out, waiting for the filthy creature to turn to face her as she unsheathed her sword, the blade emitting a silvery white glow. "We meet yet again." she growled, a cruel smirk spreading across her lips as she stalked forward, watching the demonic creature carefully.

"Care to continue where we left off?" she hissed, a spark in her eye as she relished the opportunity to get the revenge she had been so desperately seeking. She was so focused on the task at hand that she hadn't given the man the demon was throwing around more than a second thought. She charged forward then, acting as if she was going to throw a blow straight on before darting to the side of the demon and slashing expertly at it's side before tumbling past Malphas to his other side, readying herself for it's rebuttal.

XXXXThe demon left his attention from the poor man in his grasp to the woman who suddenly seemed to appear - though he had a feeling he'd been followed all day. "Ahh, the little demon hunter Aria has made herself known finally makes herself known," the demon laughed at her as it slowly pushed it's claws further into Alex's chest, threatening to puncture his heart. Malphas pulled his claws suddenly from him though and threw him off to the side, letting him fall to the ground in a limp heap. He gave a pitiful look to his victim before looking back up at the demon huntress, a sick look in his eyes.

XXXX"Yes, I believe we ought to. I want to know if you scream like your little pet did," it laughed again before he charged the attacking woman. He blocked for the first attack, but her sword bit through the lesser demon's flesh easily, splattering blood across the ground. The monster let out an angry roar and rebalanced himself, charging her. It didn't try to have a stealthy attack, instead it went headfirst. What allowed him to kill a professional demon killer was his speed. At Aria's first attack, he jumped around it, dodging the blade easily then pushing off the wall behind her to drive it's claws at her heart as she had been doing to Alex.

XXXXThe demon's previous victim wasn't letting himself just lay on the ground without trying to fight him. Instead, Alex crawled to his gun to reload it again. With the weapon loaded, he started getting up again and raised his gun in his single hand. Leaning back against the wall, he glared down his weapon as he bared his teeth. However, he held back firing as he had no idea who this new person was and he didn't want to risk hitting anyone else with his blurry vision.

Hearing Malphas speak ill of Owen, Aria gritted her teeth, a low growl coming from her throat. How dare he speak of him like that. Owen had gone down fighting and she wasn't going to let this foul creature speak ill of him now. Feeling her blade make contact with the demon's flesh, she grinned to herself, the blood splattering across the back alley wall and the ground. As the demon was steadying itself again, she reached into her pack and pulled out a small round ball that she had helped to engineer herself. It was similar to a grenade, but filled with holy water and guaranteed to explode the moment it made contact with a demon's flesh. Holding this holy water grenade in her left hand, she swung at the demon with the sword in her right hand as it charged at her, anticipating Malphas's move off the wall before he executed it.

She'd been watching this demon for some time now and although he was rather skilled for such a filthy creature, she'd learned his tricks. Skidding to the side, she pelted her holy water bomb at the creature before charging at it with a roar, driving her blade between it's shoulder blades. If all went as planned, Malphas would've been blinded and severely burned by the holy water and received a deep wound through the shoulder before Aria ripped her sword from it's body. Kicking the demon back away from her, she snarled seeing the man who had been Malphas's previous victim trying to get back up and load his gun.
"Will you put that bloody weapon down and stay on the ground, this is no time to be gutsy!" she snarled at him, rage in her eyes as she repositioned herself between the demon and the injured man. Him firing bullets all willy nilly was not going to be helpful at all.

"C'mon now Malphas, is that all you've got?" Aria called out, an eery sing songy tone about her voice as she traded her sword for her throwing daggers, twirling them aimlessly through her fingers with an effortless sort of grace. It was like she knew how to handle her blades just as well as she knew how to walk. Waiting until he charged her again, she fired her blades with an untamed sort of rage at him. One flew towards his head, one straight for his heart, and the other for it's knee. It would be nearly impossible to dodge all, especially since she had waited until the demon was in such close range. Once her daggers had left her hand, she unsheathed her sword again, remaining in front of the man she now felt an obligation to protect and waiting for her chance to take out Malphas.

Malphas tried to bat away the grenade, but the explosion proved it far more devious than he had expected. The demon let out a shrill scream and hid away from her slightly as his fur was singed off and skin burned. "You'll pay for that b***h," he screamed just before he was silenced with a blade through his shoulder. The demon tore himself free and jumped away, his black blood splattering all over the ground. His attention was taken off the woman who had attacked him though she addressed the man who he had been trying to kill. Seeing him getting up caused a lot of amusement to rise on his face.

"Don't be so excited to get up little man, I'll finish you in a second," the monster laughed before it charged Aria. Too close he noticed the daggers that were flying towards him and realized he couldn't dodge them all. So, he took on in his knee, severing muscles that even he needed to move. He dropped onto the ground, snarling again before he forced himself to stand on his four legs, keeping the weight off his injured leg.

He charged her again, but she wasn't the target. With her being such a difficult person to finish off, he didn't see the fight ending well. However, he actually was there for a specific target that he had spent a long time tracking down. So, upon reaching Arias, he slid past her to the man who had fallen back down to one knee.

Alex's eyes grew wide out of panic and he let every shot out of his barrel again, his gun barking loudly in his hand. Reaching the last bullet though, he hissed something inaudible under his breathe and released the last bullet into the monster's chest, missing his heart, but this time it splattered more black ooze on the ground. While it didn't put Alex out of danger, he still dropped back on the ground, slumped against the dumpster. His eyes were barely open, but he still stared down the smoking barrel with a grin on his face. "Surprise ********>," he growled as his eyes shut, passing out from unable to hold himself up for any longer.

The demon however, still got up, but his rage was overfilling him now. His eyes lit up brightly and a ghostly fire seemed to start escaping from him. "Now I'll make sure you both suffer a fate worse than death," Malphas hissed before charging the unconscious man before him.

Aria laughed wickedly as one of her daggers made contact with Malphas's knee, just where she had aimed. She knew by aiming daggers at more vital places like his head and chest that he would be forced to take one in the knee, limiting his mobility. And a demon's speed was his main advantage against a skilled hunter like her. As he dropped to the ground, she steadied herself, waiting for him to charge forward with her blade at the ready. She wanted to end this now and aimed to plunge her blade straight for the demon's heart when... it side-stepped her. She should have anticipated that. The demon did have a target before she had gotten there, she should've been aware that he would've been a big factor.

Spinning around, her silver hair whipping around with her, she strode after the demon, surprised when the last bullet from the man's gun was actually able to penetrate the demon's skin. Did this man actually know what he was fighting? Malphas didn't react well to the man's comment however, raising up with a new sort of determination as he charged towards the man. Aria smirked however, Malphas's focus on this man so pinpointed that the demon had almost forgot about the hunter wielding a blessed sword.
"Shouldn't turn your back on a demon hunter, Malphas." she hissed just as she reached him, giving him no time to turn and react. She caught up to him before he could even reach the man slumped up against the wall, raising her sword and bringing it down over the demon's neck with a sickening crunch of bones. Malphas's head split from his body, both parts falling to the ground in a thick pool of black demon blood. "That's for Owen." she growled, kicking the demon's head angrily away from it's body. She then flipped the body over and stabbed it directly through the heart with her blade. Demons were odd creatures and she never trusted one to be dead until she stabbed it through the heart.

Now splattered with the black ooze from the kill, she turned to the unconscious man in the alley, assessing his wounds. She would've loved to celebrate her victory right then and there, revenge finally having been served for her partner, but this man needed immediate medical attention. Cursing herself for not having parked closer, she weighed her options before deciding there wasn't much she could do without her car. If she ran, she'd only be gone a few minutes. In a split second, she was gone, bolting back to where she'd left her red camaro only a few blocks away. Breaking into a dead sprint, she was there within a few minutes and hopped in, firing up the engine with a roar. She was only gone about seven minutes before she had the car parked by the alley and left it running. She ran out, lifted the unconscious man up and over her shoulders and half carried, half dragged him back to her car. Once he was safely in the passengers seat, she looked over her shoulder with a wicked grin at the oozing black mess that was her success and climbed into the drivers seat, speeding off.

They arrived back at the isolated home she'd been living in for months now only about fifteen minutes later. It wasn't an abandoned building or anything, it was just in a shady neighborhood where no one would really question her activities. Plus she scared all of her neighbors, so no one ever really messed with her. Parking the car outside, she walked around to the passengers side and pulled the man out, grumbling
"You really need to wake up, it's not my ******** job to carry people around.." under her breath. She was kind of just inherently rude and spoke her mind about anything and everything. She didn't mind helping this guy out, but she wasn't going to be overly pleasant about it. Unlocking the door and bursting in, she slammed it behind her before depositing the man on the couch. She flicked the lights on and got to work, cutting his shirt away from his body and removing it before starting to wipe the blood from him with wet rags. "Malphas really did a number on you." she muttered, sighing gently to herself. She then went to get her medical kit and some ice, turning him over on his side so she could get to the deep cuts on his back shoulder. Running the ice over the wounds to numb them slightly, she then pulled out the needle and thread. "I'm going to stitch you up. If you can hear me, please don't go thrashing around and raising bloody hell, alright?" she said, watching for any sign of a reaction before she dug the needle into his skin and started stitching up his wound.

Malphas had no chance to react before his head was removed from his body. Still, the monster tried to get back up, until she drove the sword through his chest.

The only issue was left was the unconscious man in the alleyway, still clutching his pistol in one hand. Though he had put up a lot of a fight before, he didn't when he was lifted off the ground then dragged to a car. Even when he was taken into a brand new place, far away from his own place, he didn't wake. Only when he felt a needle driven in his skin did he actually wake.

"Ow...," he groaned as he slowly moved, his body still hurting too much to actually get up and run. His eyes looked up to the blurry woman who had rescued him and now was fixing him up. "Please stop... Leave me alone. I don't even know who you are and this is probably I'm going to wake up and there wouldn't be a mark on me," he weakly whispered as he struggled to get up again. However, the moment he even shifted on the couch, his broken body screamed at him enough he tensed up and he didn't move again.

Aria sighed heavily when the man groaned as she pushed the needle through his skin, looking up at her. It was obvious that he had no idea what was going on and that he was far too weak to even move a muscle. Leaving the needle dangling from his skin, she got up to retrieve some heavy pain killers and a sedative from the kitchen, along with a glass of water.
"Unfortunately for you, you're going to wake up in a hell of a lot of pain and definitely not unscathed. However, regardless of your idiotic wish for me to just leave you alone, that's not going to happen. Either I help you, or you die. So just take this pills and shut up." she called behind her back, returning with a handful of pills. She didn't feel like babysitting a guy that she didn't even know and that was going to complain about her helping him. Instead, she forced the pills down his throat, making him swallow the pills and the water combined. Once they were down, she smiled to herself, pushing his body gently back into the position she needed it to be to stitch him up properly.

"Just relax, you'll be out cold again shortly." she muttered, picking up her needle and threading it through his skin again, pulling the ragged edges of the wound back together. It was only once she had the three gashes from the demons claws properly stitched up that she noticed the mark. She had stopped to admire her work when her eyes drifted to the center back of his back, where a mark seemed burned in his skin. "It can't be." she muttered, her fingers tracing over the mark gently. It was real.. and it was the mark everyone talked about. Thinking back to when she had first seen Malphas attack this man back in the alley, a word came to mind that she hadn't noticed at first. Something that Malphas had called this man. Nephillum. "Bloody hell." she muttered, a look of shock passing over her face as she realized exactly what he meant. He was the half angel, half demon.. the child of Lilith and Azrael. The one who was supposed to wield immense powers. And here he was on her couch, bloodied and broken.

"This may change things." she muttered to herself, a million scenarios running through her mind as she tried to decide what this meant for her. Did she need to let someone know about this? Did he even know about this? He seemed utterly unaware of it all. Trying to ignore these thoughts, she assessed the rest of his wounds. His shoulder was definitely dislocated, but that would be easy to pop back into place, and he needed a few smaller stitches in his chest where Malphas's claws had pierced him. His ribs also needed to be set and wrapped to help them heal. Seeing as the sedative had definitely kicked in by now, Aria set to work on finishing up with what medical attention he needed. She needed to make sure he was going to survive this injuries before she could think about what came next for him.

About an hour later, his shoulder was set back into place, his chest stitched up, his ribs set and wrapped, and she had bandaged and wrapped over all the stitches that now decorated his body. She had even fashioned a make shift IV to pump fluids into him from the blood loss, just as an extra precaution. Knowing what she knew about him know left a heavy weight on her shoulders and she didn't know how to handle it. Instead she busied herself with cleaning up the mess that was left from his injuries, then heading to the bathroom to clean off the black sludge that decorated her clothing. She showered quickly though, not wanting to leave him alone long in case the sedative wore off. By the time she returned to where she had left him on the couch, she was wearing black leggings and a loose flowy white tee, her silver locks hanging loosely over her shoulders as they dried. She positioned herself between him and the door on an armchair, pulling out her ipad to do some research on what this meant. There wasn't much more than speculation about what the nephillum was able to do or what powers he possessed. The only sure fact was the mark that he carried on his back and who his parents were. As well as the fact that he was male. Other than that, the supernatural world was left guessing.

Alex looked up at her with an exhausted expression as she explained that this wasn't a dream. This was very, very real. He grimaced at the thought and just hoped still this would go away. There was no way that two decades of being told something wasn't real suddenly changed it. His doctor wasn't crazy, he was. This woman was probably just some apparition and he would wake up in an abandoned house, lost. When the woman came back though to force pills down his throat, he agreed that the hallucination was very real. That and the pain was almost too severe to ignore. He swallowed it as she wanted though, taking the water only because of how thirsty he was. However, it took longer than expected for the pills to kick in due to his immune system being so use to them. By the time she reset his shoulder though, he was unconscious and in a thankfully dreamless state.

When he woke up though, he was greeted with reality.

Though he woke up slowly, the pain he was in hit him hard. Before he even moved he realized how badly he had been beaten up. His entire body throbbed as it spread out from his back and shoulder to just hurt his entire body. With all the pain, the best he could do was out of reputation and habit. So, he reached out for his nightstand full of his medications for the day. However, not finding them, he actually opened is eyes to look around the building, realizing he wasn't home and she was still with him.

The overwhelming sense of panic crashed into him as he panicked. Every ounce of his fiber now screamed that he had to run, get out.

Getting up suddenly, he pushed past the pain in his back and bared his teeth as he barely stood before he tried to find his way through the spinning room. He only managed to get a few steps before he ended up sinking down and needed the sofa to stand up again, so he stayed close to it. Within another few steps though, the IV tore at his skin as the needle tried to pull out of his skin in the wrong direction. He swore under his breath and tore it out of his skin, but that was enough to make him almost sick enough to throw up. "Think, Alex, think. Just breathe and get out of here. This illusion will leave as soon as you get your pills back in you and we'll go back to the same routine that's always been there," he panted, still struggling to stay standing.

(( Also, totally just decided that she needs to be British. So imagine everything she says in a British accent from now on. hahaha. ))

Aria waited patiently for this man to wake, not even really realizing how much time was passing. Although she had started with only her laptop, after hours of waiting for him to wake and doing her research, she was left with notebooks and old books of mythology and the essentials of demon hunting sprawled across the table and floor as well. She was going to need all of the resources she had available to her in order to figure out exactly what to do to help this guy. And to ensure that he was in fact the Nephillum. She compared the image of the mark that always remained the same in every book to his back and every time, it matched up perfectly. There was no way that he had a mark like that, one that seemed burned into his very skin, if he wasn't the Nephillum. And no one that knew what that mark actually meant would ever get it tattooed on their skin otherwise. So this had to be who she thought it was.

Her head was buried in a book when he finally woke up, scribbling notes to herself in her journal vigorously. She didn't even notice him get up at first, so engrossed in what she was doing that him moving didn't really phase her. It was odd for her to allow herself to get so into something that movement or noises around her didn't phase her, but this research had really captivated her full attention. Hearing him speak however, she snapped the book shut, placing it on the table and slowly lowering herself to stand. The man had struggled to get up off the couch, ripped the IV from his arm, and probably caused himself even more harm just by standing. Running a hand through her hair with a heavy sigh, she addressed the situation. He was obviously mad, considering that he was talking to himself and trying to convince himself that she was an illusion. How in the name of all that was holy did he think that he got here if she wasn't real?!

"Hey, Alex." she started, taking a few steps towards him. As long as he wasn't so crazy to call himself something other than his real name, Alex had to be his name just based on him talking aloud to himself. "I'm sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but I am real. This is all pretty ******** real. And don't try to tell me that you don't feel any pain or that you think you somehow just found your way here. You're severely injured and can barely stand." she started, flipping her hair over her shoulder and standing with one hand on her hip. "I'm not going to hurt you, alright? If I was going to hurt you, you'd already be dead." she added, grinning devilishly. "But seriously, I'm the only reason you're alive right now. So just take a seat and stop trying to convince yourself this all isn't real. Maybe then we can make some progress." she said calmly, advancing another step towards him. She didn't make any move to touch him or force him any which way, but just watched him carefully, not sure what to say to make him believe her. She wasn't exactly the sensitive type so these sorts of situations definitely weren't her forte. "The name's Aria by the way... Aria Kingsley." she tacked on as an afterthought, thinking that maybe putting a name to a face would help him understand that she was very much real. And that this was very much real.

Alex did his best to righten himself when he was ordered that he needed to stop pretending that this was all some sick dream. Instead, she told him that it was all very, very real. He narrowed his eyes at her and bared his teeth a little before bracing himself on the back of her couch, his knuckles turning white from how hard he was gripping it. "Alexander," he replied sharply to her giving her own name. "I don't have a last name anymore."

He closed his eyes and let his head hang, fighting himself to calm down and think clearly. He said nothing as he just worked on slowing his heart and breathing. When he finally picked his head up again, he gave her a tired, far less aggressive look. "How do you expect me to go back on nearly twenty years of doctors telling me that I'm crazy and I'm just seeing things? How to I go back on that? You may be real, this place may be real; but if my injuries are what they feel like, that cat thing was real too then. I don't want that. I want it to go back away, him return to just being a shadow out of the corner of my eye, and then I just return to the daily struggle of not putting a bullet in my mouth. Fair enough?"

He glanced at the door again, wanting to bolt, but he wasn't sure he'd make it more than two steps once he released his grip off the couch. With nothing better to do, he crossed back over to the front of the couch to sit down on it, cradling his injured arm against his body. "Why did you even bother saving me?" he asked rubbing his cut face with his hand. "I don't do anything special. I'm a bartender and trainer, that's it. I'm a good shot, but nothing I did last night earned me a spot to stay on Earth."

Aria remained where she was when the man bared his teeth at her like a dog, obviously warning her to stay away. She wasn't at all frightened by him though. He may have been bigger than her, but she was exceptionally skilled at what she did and had taken out much nastier creatures. Plus, he was severely injured. Her eyes scanned over him as she waited patiently for him to listen to her and sit back down, noticing how white his knuckles were as he gripped the couch behind him. She knew he had to be feeling immensely freaked out right now, but she wasn't going to baby him into understanding the reality of things. Upon hearing his name, she nodded, raising an eyebrow when he said he didn't have a last name anymore. Figuring that now wasn't the best time to bring that up, she let it slide, waiting patiently as he closed his eyes and hung his head, looking as if he was trying to gather his thoughts.

When he finally looked back up at her, he no longer looked like a raging dog, but a rather exhausted and confused man. She sighed gently, listening as he began to speak again. She listened as he explained how he had been told he was crazy for the past twenty years and that he couldn't just start believing that what he had told wasn't real had actually caused his injuries. Running a hand through her silvery hair, she grumbled something under her breath before saying
"Sometimes humans can be bloody idiots. Not you - the ones who told you that you were crazy. I'll do what I can to clear things up for you if you'll let me." She spoke as if she was inhuman herself, which she definitely wasn't, but she actually had an understanding an acceptance of the supernatural. Maybe if other people did as well there wouldn't be so many unexplained deaths and people thinking they were crazy for seeing things in the shadows.

She followed his movements with her eyes as he made his way back to the couch, cradling his injured arm. She strode over to him then, sliding the coffee table back from the couch slightly before sitting down on the table in front of him. When he asked why she even bothered saving him, she sighed, remembering his comment about not putting a bullet in his mouth every night. Anyone else would be thanking her, not asking why she hadn't let a demon end their life.
"Because I wasn't just going to let you die. I'm not one of the bad guys." she said calmly. "Everyone's life is worth something, regardless of their career or whether they're a good shot or not." she added, shrugging her shoulders. She wasn't just saying that either, she truly did believe in saving everyone that she could. Especially from demons. "Plus, it's kinda my job." she tacked on as an afterthought, grinning to herself. She wasn't going to bring up his mark yet, since she was pretty sure that he was oblivious to that and she hadn't known about it when she first decided to help him.

Alex rubbed the back of his neck as she called his psychyatrists morons, but that was okay. He never really believed the pills to actually work, but it had been enough to convince himself that he was truly crazy. She at least offered to explain what was going on that made him question his sanity. Everyone else only offered him explinations to why he was wrong, this iwould be a nice change of pace. Finding someone as crazy as himself was quite refreshing.

The reasurance that she would protect him either way was also promising. It was good to find someone who valued his life as well - even if it was an insane one. However, the idea that it was her job to fight what he tried to believe was false, that sounded even crazier than he was. "I don't really have questions for you. I don't understand what happened, I don't understand why it went after me, and I don't understand how this is not insanity. How am I the only one that can see these beings? Heavenly beings, hell beings, whatever they are, they are too big to not be noticed. If I'm truly not crazy, how is the world blind to them?" The stream of questions just flowed from him as he had no idea of how to interpretate the information that he'd been given. If he had a clue, he could start to focus on one concept. One idea.

Aria watched Alex patiently as he rubbed the back of his neck, seeming to try to decide what to say next. She had a feeling that instead of her doing a good job of convincing him that he wasn't crazy, she was probably making him think that she was crazy too. She didn't really care if he did think that she was crazy though. She kind of was. She risked her life on a daily basis to rid the world of creatures that most people didn't even know existed. Shrugging this thought off though, she focused on him when he spoke up again. She shifted the way she was sitting when he began to talk, sitting pretzel style on the table. She wasn't really worried about him trying to run off anymore, plus he wouldn't get far.

She analyzed everything he said as he said it, his questions seemingly endless as he just spat out whatever came to mind. When he finally came to a stop, she chewed her lip gently, trying to think about the best way to go about answering his questions. She remained silent for a few moments before she focused her attention on him, her hazel-green eyes watching him carefully.
"Ok, this isn't exactly easy to explain. So just hang in there while I explain and then you can bombard me with as many questions as you'd like." she began, flipping her hair over her shoulder once again. It was always getting in her face. "Ok, so, that cat-like thing that attacked you was a demon. A real demon. A rather nasty one actually, I'd been tracking him for months. But that's beside the point. The point is that while I was tracking Malphas - the demon - he was tracking you." she started, wondering if she was making any sense to him. She wasn't very good at this whole thing, especially since demons and angels and the supernatural were a regular part of her everyday life.

"Anyways, it was after you. That's because of that mark you've got on your back. I noticed it when I was stitching you up. It marks you as the Nephillum.. it means you're half angel, half demon. The child of Azrael and Lilith. It's why you're more sensitive to the existence of supernatural beings, like demons, and why they would be coming after you. I'm actually surprised you've never had an encounter with one before now." she explained, musing over this idea. It was surprising, yet not at all impossible. Especially since he didn't even know what he was.. he was going about his life as if he were a mere human. "However, since you're more sensitive to the existence of these creatures, it's why you see them and others don't. Most people refuse to accept the existence of the supernatural, which is why they'd rather label you as crazy than believe you." she continued, pausing and looking at him curiously, not wanting to overwhelm him. "Don't be afraid to stop me if I'm overloading you with information.." she said gently, blowing a stray stand of hair out of her face as she waited for his reaction.
