Gender: Female (? ish...)
Personalities:
- Astrid:
Spoiled: She doesn't mean to be, but a lifetime of having things handed to her on a silver platter and being coddled means that she can be impatient when things don't go her way or she doesn't get what she wants. It's not so much that she can't endure hardship--she is surprisingly adept at this (or not surprisingly)--as that she simply expects that everyone around her will, naturally, go out of their way to give her what she wants.
Self-centered: This is again an inadvertent trait. She often finds it hard to emotionally connect to a situation that doesn't directly involve her or someone she's very close to. She finds it easy to forget things about people she meets, as well, but she's aware of this flaw and as a way to cement their presence in her mind has a tendency to give them nicknames and labels, which are not always flattering but then again aren't always known to them.
Chatty: Talkative and outgoing, Astrid's always up for a conversation. She can be a bit rambly, though, and can also sometimes hog the spotlight.
Quick on the uptake: While she can be socially inept and at times astonishingly uninformed ("Iggy Pop? Isn't she like, a model or something?"), Astrid's malleable. She picks up new skills quickly and, after the initial tantrums, adapts readily to new circumstances. This can mean, however, that she's rapidly bored--in training and education it's best to split things up for her, rather than attempt to get any sort of laser focus out of her for a long period of time.
Resilient: While it might surprise her sister and would certainly have surprised her father, Astrid is not quite as fragile as she's always let on. In truth she's remarkably good at pragmatically dissecting trauma and moving forward, but in an effort to continue being coddled and to avoid being seen as callous, it's not a talent she readily divulges and in fact actively conceals.
Rebellious: After Peyton's departure from her life--and her subsequent discovery that she hadn't died at all but had left her--she began to disconnect somewhat from her neediness. This is flowering into a full-fledged "stop treating me like a child" streak and is likely to prove troublesome later. Latent, although she to some extent has already lived a double life that would shock the few people who are close to her. After Peyton's "death" she began making up for lost time with a vengeance, circumventing her sheltered lifestyle as much as she was able, and as a result it's likely she's seen more of the world than her sister had before Deus. Not that anyone knows it, which is exactly how she likes it.
Flirty: Like many girls who are sheltered and kept away from interaction with the opposite sex and are suddenly given full freedom, Astrid can be a bit shameless in the pursuit of male attention (and, she is realizing, female attention as well. She hasn't looked at it too close). She is often thwarted by the fact that she still looks like a little kid, and that she's... not very good at it. She's working on it. In the meantime she'll probably continue to make bad decisions.
Interests: Probably due to her easily-bored nature, Astrid's interests are ever-shifting. She's picked up and put back down a number of handicrafts, several TV shows, a brief flirtation with anime, and a host of other dedicated distractions. Some things remain steady: Astrid loves bears (the animals, not the people), loves to draw (casually), would probably have taken Psych 101 if she'd enrolled in college, watches a lot of Disney movies, is bizarrely obsessed with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and, in a secret not even her sister knows, privately really loves Dungeons and Dragons, and used to play this and other roleplaying games online. She only played with a tabletop group briefly--and secretly--before one of the family's frequent moves took her away.
Weapon Personality:
Slinky kitty: Reau is a purring, manipulative, self-centered beast that might best be described as feline. She's grown-up, she's self-possessed, she's the flicker of a tail and the echo of a laugh receding into the shadows. Something of a hedonist before weaponization, she's a voice of temptation and the devil on the shoulder, and not always a great source of moral direction.
At the moment she finds her timid, naive Hunter a source of great delight and a potential prospect for ready shaping, but when Astrid's long-dormant rebellious streak manifests, she may find more conflict than either will be entirely pleased with.
Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter?
- She had nothing left.
Her mother was taken from her as a child, her older sister--her surrogate mother--not long afterward. Bereft and grieving, she and her father became more and more estranged from their already-distant family, and when he, too, was claimed by an accident, she found herself without any worldly ties whatsoever besides her online friendships, and these, too, were beginning to disintegrate as people got older and drifted apart.
In the chaos of attempting to find a legal guardian for the nearly-adult Astrid in the wake of her father's funeral, Astrid found herself approached by promises of something different, and griefstricken, alone, and directionless, saw no reason not to take it.
Initially she took the recruiters up on their offer in the hopes that she could once again find someone to take care of her, being totally unaccustomed to taking care of herself. But the discovery of her sister's secret life stirred emotions that have yet to go examined, and there's a seed of bitterness that could blossom either into independence and maturity or into something crueler...
Interim
- After her awakening Astrid was almost immediately dispatched to a rundown, disused base off the coast of Lebanon, together with a team of slightly more seasoned Hunters charged with getting the place back in working order.
Perhaps this assignment was some higher-up's attempt to instill in her a sense of self-sufficiency. And it's worked--some. Astrid Creedy remains a work in progress.
Weapon Ability
- Displace: [The Mind] Astrid and her weapon become inexplicably difficult to get a bead on, as though they're not standing where they very clearly are.
Physical Description:
- Eye Colour: Hazel
Hair Colour/Style: Blond and curly; currently long but soon to be chopped
Skin Colour: Tanned, many freckles.
Clothing Style/Colours: Astrid still dresses quite quirky and childishly, but is starting to gravitate to slightly more grown-up looks, partly because she's a bit tired of being treated like a child (where she once craved it, it now sometimes grates on her nerves) and partly because people in Lebanon are just so goddamned stylish. She has a polyvore here.
Extra: Much to her dismay, Astrid is utterly lacking in curves except those that can be attributed to a stubborn lingering of baby fat around her midsection, which she often attempts to hide with oversized and drapey shirts.
